Matt Steinmetz on CSN Bay Area; Hey, This Insider is Someone I like, (Stop the Presses)

About the only Insider that I trust. And knows his stuff too. That

helps.

Matt Steinmetz isn't afraid to rock the boat. He's one of the few Comcast wonks that says something worth reading and has several key NBA sources on his massive Rolodex.

Beyond his NBA work, Steinmetz knows his Warriors beat. And unlike most of the sporting minions, he does his homework. Oh, and he can shoot from outside the perimeter too. I'm not kidding.

For those of you who say I'm too hard on Comcast, take a deep breath. Some of their people are just rather splendid and extraordinary, OK, mate? Lovely.

  1. Nice to see you hand out some compliments to a deserving guy Rich.

I couldn't agree with you more. I've known Matt personally for many years and he is not only a solid reporter, but a good guy who is well liked and respected by the players, the front office, league officials, and of course the players.

Matt is also one of the few people who has been able to make the difficult transition from the print to the electronic medium of TV seamlessly. He's very professional, solid, prepared and knows how to handle himself on the air. And he's not afraid to speak his piece, yet he's always fair and
doesn't try to rattle cages just for the sake of making noise.

It's too bad that the Warriors have been so bad for almost the entire time Matt has been covering them (the exception being those teams from 2006-08 that had Baron Davis, Steve Jackson and Matt Barnes.) Matt must really love the NBA, because there hasn't been much to love about the Warriors these last 18 years!

It's also too bad that not many other TV analysts are as interesting or as on top of things as Matt is.

  3. Matt is..ok. I know he said he was near CERTAIN the Warriors would not make a move before the trade deadline. Then, the Warriors sent Monta Ellis packing.SO much for insider.
btw-Did I tell you all why Purdy scooped on the Neukom firing? My theory is..The Giants informed MLB,..Selig,best friend of A's part owner Lew Wolff for 50 years leaked to him..and Wolff wanting to embarrass the Giants snitched to Mark Purdy. Purdy as we all know has written over the top pro Wolff columns, pro moving...and after the "scoop" began saying he "Admired" Lew Wolff. DO you need to know why by now?
    Signed,

  4. I hate most of the local sports media but I think Steinmetz is great. He has a ton of cred, IMHO. I also like that after Lacob was booed at Mully's special night, instead of acting like a lackey for the team he covers (like most of the worthless Comcast "insiders"), Steimnetz criticized Lacob for not having a clue (based on his comments after the game) as to WHY he was booed. And then he articulated all those reasons. It took a lot of guts to be critical of a guy (Lacob) who could make your job tougher if he so chooses, but it showed me that Steinmetz puts his honor first. Good for him. He also doesn't buy in to the Warriors' relentless hype about their trades, their players, their front office, etc. The guy is just a solid pro as a journalist and I've been reading his work since he was exclusively a print reporter. I wish we had a Steinmetz-like talent covering the other sports around here.

  5. Steinmetz>that gasbag Urban on crappy Lund show. More Steinmetz please. Busted Ralph's chops about traveling with Giants and Sharks during playoff runs just before he left. Also love "Let me tell you something"...when he wants to emphasize a point. I think he wouldn't be bad with Tierney.
