Lee Rodgers on Rush Limbaugh; Ex-KSFO/KGOer chimes in to 415 Media

Lee Rodgers, late of KSFO, just emailed me and had this to say about El Rushbo...

People who hate him will continue to hate him. His devoted listeners will continue to listen.

**

He will continue to make beaucoup bux; so will the stations that carry him ... and the advertiser "defections" are nothing. They're mostly locally-bought spots on relatively few stations. They'll be quickly replaced -- or quietly come back when the noise dies down. As Shirley Bassey sang, "It's just a case of history repeating."

**

The flailing fools who howl for Rush's suspension or firing are ignorant of the fundamental (sound like Newt, don't I?) fact that he is his own boss. Fire him? Suspend him? Nobody is in a position to do that, even if they wanted to. Wouldn't we all aspire to such control of our fortunes and future.

**

When Citadel, the pre-Cumulus owner of KGO/KSFO, terminated my contract (I beat them in court--and collected) only four months before I was going to bail out of the big rat-race anyway, I was approached

about being Rush's back-up for vacations, illness, etc. I turned it down because I was tired of the broadcasting business. It is now more amusing -- but also sad -- to watch the machinations of a dying industry from the outside. And I do worry about my friends who are still enmeshed.

  1. sad when someone who used to work in radio....doesnt know shit about it

the advertisers that chose to pull out...are all rush's national advertisers...not local

they pulled out, because the new ratings system shows that el druggo's loyal listeners are not as numerous as once was thought

sure rush will keep making tons of money...till the end of his current contract...after that...who knows

as for the stations carrying him making a lot of money....depends what one considers a lot of money...even stations carrying rush have been cutting back

rush is his own boss and therefore cannot be removed from a station that carries him? thats idiocy

as for lee choosing not to work as a backup for el druggo cuz he is tired of the biz....give me a frickin break

but i really do love it when so called social conservatives go out of their way to support miscreants like the drug and sex vacation boy

keep proving that your ilk are nothing but filthy hypocrites

oh...and 2006 and 2008 showed that the deaf, drug fiend has little to no power at all

    2. i need to tell you the names of the advertisers who pulled out???

sorry...aint gonna do your heavy lifting...

it was widely reported...there are a dozen...and all national brands

but rush still has the gold scam artists

i dont know shit about the media biz? i know enough to know that national brands dont pull the plug, unless they see their bottom line taking a hit

they have seen the numbers...and also the demos

they are pulling out at least till the heat goes down...which in this case may not happen

rush thinks he is gonna get replacements....im not so sure

but go ahead, slam me again

at least im smart enough to create a nick

  2. At $400-million over 8 years (until Jan. 1, 2016) -- Rush is bulletproof to Premiere / Clear Channel. That much is fact. As to his hysterical "I called my own company, "Two If By Tea" to cancel my own advertising, and I couldn't get through, because the line was busy," he is so full of shit.

The lamestream media, however, got it wrong.

Rush DID lose "in suspended airing" sponsors directly in his show by "national advertisers". However, there were a few defections on the local affiliates base of "local" ads too -- but the nationals did "suspend" their spending on the Rush "show" for now.

Happens all the time ... the agencies just said that no matter what, none of their buys that might have been Run-of-Schedule (ROS) are to appear in the Limbaugh show. Others who "bought" just national spots in his half of the spot inventory "suspended" their buys until this blows over -- and the deal is they come back and continue with their full contracts until they are finished.

He will make up that money, easily. Will there be "fill-in" sponsors? Of course. Ivory Madison may be one -- maybe. And then, for only three months, if that. When things cool down, they'll filter back to Limbaugh ... out of fear of losing that audence of yahoos.

His "inside baseball" the other day of how the biz works was stupid and a way to embarass those who did pull off the air ... for now. Premier sells the show ... Rush doesn't, nor could care less about it. It's his show, but Premiere's to sell. A few deals here, a few deals there and a few fill-in spots and all is well with the world ... and extended contracts for those who backed out. They come back or when they do ... they'll pay higher rates. This won't last long.

"I'd have to suspend myself." That is correct. The advertisers bought Limbaugh, not is substitutes. They rearrange the buys outside his show or they pull out before coming back to avoid paying higher rates.

When you're #1 in the nation, you get to pull a few boners ... and this is one.

Incidentally, of the top 10 "talkers" ... ONLY 3 are certified liberals or progressives. In the top 20 ... only 5. 20-25% ... that's it. I don't like Rush, but he ain't lsoing sleep over this.

The sales weasels at Clear Channel / Premiere are, though.

And Lee complains ... to pass up the fill-in job for Tom Sullivan? Premiere sure wasn't looking very far to find that whitebread KFBK talker to fill in for Mr. Oxycontin. So, Lee -- your turning down the gig didn't make waves, that's for sure.

  3. Bacci40 nailed it right on the head. I just heard on the radio that El Drugshbo lost over 40 advertisers thus far. Truthfully Lee Rodgers' apearances on this blog are getting as stale and tired as the appearances of apologist in chief Mel Baker.

  4. More Lee On here

  5. Maybe 20-25% of talkers are liberal because conservatives are more entertaining, or it might be that people are looking for alternatives to the liberal-dominated TV media.

  6. "Devoted listeners"?

    You mean brain dead zombies.

I listened to Rush in the early 90s. Back then he was genuinely entertaining. Today, he just seems to talk about himself.

  7. Any chance Lee Rodgers could take over for Rush Limbo??????????

  8. Yeah, Rush and his overseers are so unconcerned with this flap that they eliminated the Fluke comments from his transcripts.

  9. Lee misunderstands the nuance here. Liberals WANT Mr. Limbaugh to remain on the radio all over the country through NOvember at least. Do you know why?..hint: as the icon of the right, he reminds over half of the electorate (women) of the goal of the right to take women back to the stone ages! See yesterday's Joe Garofoli piece in the chron..not about the departure of local advertisers..but rather national ones..leading to five minutes of dead air.

  10. There is too much envy surrounding Rush.
Let's face it, liberal talk radio is just painfully boring.

    2. If you want to hear a feminist deconstruct the "c" word...I shall tomorrow night...probably in the wee hours. I don't want to see Rush lose his show...really.

    3. I do look forward to hearing you tonight on KGO, Christine! That's midnight to 3am, I believe. And if that's too late for most -frankly, it is for me-, the program can be listened to by simply going the the station's archives. Go, Christine Craft!

  11. I think I used to remember Lee Rogers being a moderate. Am I crazy? Was I not paying attention? He's become a rabid old man like Jim Eason.

As for his advertisers' exodus "not mattering" HA! How long can the stations air PSAs (public service announcements by the Ad Council) in place of all the ads lost.

Lee Rogers should have learned" NO ONE is irreplaceable.

  12. The few times I heard Lee Rogers I LOVED him. He would slice and dice Bernie Ward on KGO like nobody's business. Thoese were the days.
