Knibber kibbers

*Some KNBR producers and board ops feel overworked and underpaid.

*A few write love letters to me even though they're really not supposed to be reading me because I knda think the big boys don't sort of appreciate my fine investigative work.

*A tenacious board op was promised and ready to get a modest raise from sister station, KGO, only to be told that, sorry, can't happen.

*Giants goodies were the bounty for some hard workers--too bad not only were they pulled, but many of the back windowers were not even aware of such in-house incentives. That doesn't bode well for morale.

*A certain day-timer outed someone--that's not a very nice thing to do.

*You would think some of KNBR's more richly-compensated employees would sort of "take care" of a few loyal folks--a few do, but most look the other way. Maybe they should open their eyes every now and then.

*A higher-up has been noticeably absent from the offices at 55 Hawthorne. Maybe he's busy updating the resume. You never know these days.

*To get a show, you have to really, really, really, kiss some major tuchas. That's deflating. I hope the after-dinner mints are juicy.

*Thin guy, if you keep  insisting to write insulting notes to me, at least make up a good name. "Anonymous" is so darn irritating. (By the way, just a heads up: when you write from Hawthorne, every now and then, the IP address can be detected).

*Byrnesie, is it true? Do tell.

*Yo, morning dude? Timing is everything.

*The guy stuck on the bottom floor who thinks he's Barry Bonds is royally pissed that he's not getting real money. We'll, you don't ask, they don't reward. I mean, they're not as bad as Entercom.

*It could be worse, you could be kvetching at the "only" all-sports FM station, home of hand spun, real McCoy "Insiders." (Where knowledge of social media trumps actual talent).

*Have a nice day.

  1. The Game is miles ahead of KNBR. Just listen to the two Bill Madden interviews on the separate stations and it's apparent who throws softballs/tows the company line.

    1. I have to agree with this. I'm usually not a big fan of 95.7 The Game, or Brandon Tierney, but Tierney and Davis' interview with Bill Madden was ten times better than KNBR's. Also, KNBR never mentioned nor invited Bob Nightengale (from USA Today) to share his information that the A's were going to be allowed territorial rights to San Jose back in December. However the moment a columnist gives his OPINION that San Jose isn't likely, the columnist is on and brought on the very first show on the station and then the KNBR morning zoo hosts call the so-called information "pretty definite." And of course KNBR runs with this story the entire day, perhaps the entire week. Good grief...

  3. I like The Game fine, its just, on FM. ...? why? It gets lost in translation somehow for me over there. In theory it could work I suppose. Would help if they had some sports teams in tow.

  4. Come on, Richie, sometimes your blog reads like a bad Hedda Hopper with the wink and a grin of "I know but I'm not going to spill the details". If you got something, spill it, at least in a way where you state it is conjecture or a rumor just to CYA legally. But the vague lines without and details do nothing for us readers.

I do like The Game as well even though it does test the limits of how much hardcore sports talk one can listen to. But it is probably meant for smaller doses. The FM signal is great. Try it with headphones, Anon 9:33.

My only real beef with The Game is it is the new home for those god-awful Cash for Cars commercials.....and they are in bad mono and not stereo. It's just another level of pain, I tell ya! Just when you thought they could not get any worse.

  5. Yeah im with the majority here. When you listen to the Game for an extended period of time, and then have to go to KNBR (In my case driving back from the Bay Area to StocktoN) it's a complete letdown. That's not to say that I don't enjoy going back and forth between John Lund and Damon Bruce (With a little more of Bruce), but The Game is far outclassing KNBR at this present time. How that translates into a ratings bonanza or long term survivability, I don't know.

Ummm because Entercom doesn't own an AM? And 95.7 does have a sports team in tow...the Oakland Athletics. They were going to carry the Sharks until the Sharks found out! The Sharks didn't like the idea of being removed from 98.5 in the south bay.

  7. Rich,

While I generally enjoy reading your posts, I have to disagree with you concerning "95.7 The Game". I cannot tell you how long I have waited for another Sports Talk station to come along as I absolutely cannot stand the "KNBR The Homer station". I will grant you that 95.7 has some polishing to do, but it is leaps and bounds ahead of 680. I used to be a fan of the Giants, but have gradually been turned off by the blatant homerism blasted on the "Flamethrower".

    1. I agree with CJ. While we all know Rich thinks that 95.7 doesn't bring anything new, "The Game" is a much better alternative than KNBR. Rich is right to some extent and "The Game" certainly is not perfect. I grew tired of KNBR a long time ago and have switched. I really hope The Game sticks around.

I like how 95.7 talks about all the Bay Area teams - including the Raiders, A's, Sharks and college teams. The station has given fans of these teams a long needed platform. 95.7 is also helped by the fact that KNBR really is THAT bad these days. Have you listened to their morning show recently? How about Byrnes at night?

  8. The higher-up you are referring to is one of the nicest, hardworking and respected employees who has ever worked at KGO & KSFO usually going above the call of duty without looking for accolades. He has been completely shit on by Cumulus. While on leave they even cancelled his food show which he did for free and should have replaced old man Burns. I doubt he comes back from his leave I wouldn't.

  9. Being a KNBR board op is only one step up from flipping burgers at McDonald's. Shut the F--- up and be glad you're not unemployed!!!

  10. That's right...be grateful you have any kind of a job. At least Cumulus is paying you something for your work. They are trying to run a business so quit whining about being underpaid! If you don't like it, there's the door and there are hundreds of other young eager beavers who would like to work in the media ans sports.

Gotta give the Dickey Bros some credit, they have at least provided a place for young people to begin their careers. If you don't like what's going on in the media today, you should consider getting into some other profession! Life isn't always fair!

  11. 95.7 the GAME is waaaaaaaaaaaay better. KNBR is just garbage. Jumped the shark if you will. They are to the Giants what ESPN is to Boston: Unbearable. Furthermore, the Knibber's talent is insufferable. I like my Sports Talk Radio objective.

Agree with the post, except . . . what do you expect from two high-school kids (Murph and Mac) impersinating radio hosts?

  13. I listened to KNBR for years and years and its been an easy switch to the Game. I just took a long drive and lost the 95.7 signal and listened to Radnich...it had been awhile. Awful. So lifeless. KNBR is aging and boring, the Game has some spirit to it...at least they are trying! listening to KNBR again just shows that they have been mailing it in for a long time.
