KRON-TV's storied building at 1001 Van Ness will remain its home for the time being after all, a source tells me.
Management informed personnel at a meeting on Thursday that the intended move to a different location would not be happening.
The story goes that they couldn't find any place that was going to be cheaper than the current location. And people at KRON weren't expecting it to happen in the near future anyway.
More KRON News:
The old SF TV Indy albatross has been pushing for a new graphics package that they can't get working. Not to mention they've been hearing about an upgrade to hd for ages and that doesn't look to be happening either.
The story goes...aanything that management says is going to happen to improve things or make things work better or look better never happens anyway. -
--Two out the door at Morning Show:
The morning show had two producers leave for different positions; both were ecstatic to be out the door. (Gees, I wonder why).

I think Erica Kato has been out shopping with Darya, she's been looking sexy lately! She's got a smokin' body!
ReplyDeleteLets just hope that KRON gets sold to Fox or Comcast soon!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I've noticed that too 1:19
ReplyDeleteKRON has been using the same red-and-black graphics, I think, since the early 90s. I have no recollection of where the station was before the move to Van Ness (late 60s?) In the 70s the newscasts used to open with the V/O phrase "From the Broadcast Center for Northern California..." Very strong claim!
ReplyDeleteBefore moving to 1001 Van Ness in the late 1960's, KRON was located in the basement of the Chronicle building at 5th and Mission Streets. An old-timer told me once that in KRON's early days, they had to time their newscasts not to coincide with the newspaper's press runs. That's because the vibrations from the machinery would cause the cameras to shake.
ReplyDeleteWow..I had no idea!
DeleteCorrection: KRON was on the ground floor; the presses were in the basement.
DeleteExcept for certain non-HD programming, KRON (including the news) sure seems to be HD on my TV (it says "1080i HD" when I check the TV's input indicator, and it looks HD, is in widescreen, etc. Am I missing something, or is just that the Comcast channel is 1080i HD but the underlying signal from KRON isn't?
ReplyDeleteRemember when television was lucrative? Now it's a race to the bottom.
ReplyDeleteWho wants to see Ratsnitch's ugly face on HD? Might as well hold off on the upgrade until that bloated hack retires.
ReplyDeleteRich, you need to get a new mole at KRON...your information, while on the right track, it factually wrong (which is usual). KRON is currently in HD and has been for about two weeks. Yes, the station is getting ready to launch a new graphic look. The station is waiting for new, upgraded equipment to be installed before it can do this. Yes, the station is not going to move and you are right on the reason. Commercial leases in SF have recently risen. That, along with the cost to move was a wash.
ReplyDeleteIt won't make a shred of difference about KRON's HD or graphics. That place will still be a pathetic excuse for a news station for the following reasons:
ReplyDeletePero is a gossipy little girl who prefers to chase after TMZ type drama stories rather than actual news. Plus he has no sense of direction and there's no pleasing him EVER.
Baier is a moron who has absolutely zero news cred and is only the AD because of the GM.
Folsom and Kato seem to rarely want to appear on air wearing actual CLOTHING, and when they do, it's promiscuous at best. KRON uses them hoping to score good ratings based on looks. That's their sole purpose.
The website is crap. It's difficult to navigate. Looks amateur. Plus, it's run by a manic-depressive fat guy.
People continue to quit. They can't hold onto valuable or talented folks because the environment there is so toxic. So thus, the IDIOTS continue to rise to the top.
Seriously. KRON will continue to be pathetic until management and some of the on-air folks are fired and replaced with good quality folks who actually know a little something about news.
Rich's mole is probably like most of the KRON staff and is unwilling to watch the station at home on their own time, so they didn't know it had finally been upgraded to HD. Can you blame them? There are only so many episodes of Dr. Phil and weather reports you can see. As for the graphics package, if they're "waiting on new equipment" then why did staff undergo a frustrating three day training session before management finally threw up their hands and put it on hold? They had no intention of upgrading anything until they were in deep enough to require the new equipment.
