I won't post the 25-54 shares because that's a no-no. But I can give you ranks. KNBR 17th, KGO 23rd, KSFO 26th. And in the spirit of fairness, KKSF-AM is in 30th place.
ReplyDeleteDuh. Rather obvious that the demographic is out of date. 25-year-olds are into entirely different media than me, early 50s but still in the demographic. Never agreed with this grouping, whatever its income-spending b.s. justification.
Delete25-54 is still a prime sales demo. Look at any demo you want though...KGO is in serious trouble.
DeleteHmmm, since Kgone went all (more or less) news, its two direct news competitors, KCBS & KQED, enjoy increased ratings. That sort of validates my opinion that those who want radio news already had it, and nothing on the new, unimproved Kgone is worthy of switching to it.
ReplyDeleteI'm a tad surprised that KSFO has slipped. Did they make big changes, too? I never used to listen to KSFO at all, now I listen on Sunday afternoon for Bob Brinker (another cast off from Kgone), and sometimes at night to the sci fi talk because it's way more entertaining than any off the tired rerun ADD news crap on Kgone.
I hope Kgone ratings dip to zero, and Cumulus has to sell it for a big fat loss to some local group who can bring back intelligent, local, diverse talk radio.
Yes, I know it's unlikely, but I can dream, can't I?
Well-theres a lesson there,so many high achieving stations are ethnic..while KNBR,KGO,KSFO are almost all white middle aged males. And maybe why THEGAME can't make any inroads...because the PD stupidly is copying KNBR. Each has that one token black man.
ReplyDeleteWhen the THEGAME last year had guest host like Vern,or Kawakami or..other ethnics..it was briefly a hip station. Then they went to Sacramento and loaded up on the evil Jeff Foxworthy sports types.
KNBR HAS SUNK LIKE A ROCK..and the brilliant Bill Bunghole cant wait to re sign all those dinosaur hosts to longer contracts. From 5 or 6 to 17th? oof. I wonder if the Giants get off to a slow or worse start, if KNBR will crumble?.
I cant get over how those stations I named cling to all white males..even as they are all pro business,money lovers. The good old boy system is a stronger bond? HOW STRONG IS RACISM STILL?..sad..
KSFO has a middle-aged white female who is as brain-dead as her white counterpart. They are both birthers.And, radio is based on demographics and listeners. If it sells, the hosts could be purple and it wouldn't matter. Birtherism has a niche audience. KSFO fills it. From a real conservative who doesn't drink the Kool-aid, as opposed to the phony latter-day conservatives who do.

ReplyDeleteAs you can see on the Radio-Info web site, ratings for streaming are almost nonexistent. Only KQED's stream shows up and that's a 0.2.
I suspect KGOne's strong signal will keep them from falling too far as KKSF's weak signal will keep them from rising too high. Both regardless of content. Like many have expressed I am also all over the dial now trying to find good radio whereas before my radio was on KGO much of the time. It has been slow progress but I am adapting to life after KGOne.
ReplyDeleteThey need to find a way to make KKSF a 50,000 Watter or move. FACT. 0.4 to 1.0 is a huge jump.

You are the one who suggests that some stations are failing because their employees are white. You are the one who is suggesting that other stations have high ratings because their employees are "ethnic" i.e., non-white. The sad one is you my friend.
Since when did facts become hypocrisy? You refute that the on air KNBR,KGO,KSFO,THEGAME..Are FAR out of proportion white? Thats a fact jack. The bay area has a huge educated Asian population...find the Asian on KNBR..well..go over the list and then some.

While I'd love nothing more than to see KGO pull say a 0.1, How is KGO in free fall when it essentially looks flat to me.

But this victem mentality is bullshit. You want more this or that and nobody cares what You want. Change fucking stations and look for the racial mix or fix that suits you. Some of us don't need ZpC shoved up our Ass oin every aspect of life. Who the hell told you ,be in charge of the whole fucking world. All whites are BAD, how narrow minded can a dumb ass get?

You want more proof? Vitually EVERY one on air host at KNBR and THEGAME is a white male working in yet another market..for the manyith time. Rehired Sacramentans to New Yorkers to ex KNBR hosts. The two hosts that havent worked in another market? Brooks and Eric Davis..the only two ethnics. And if you think Rod Brooks can get another job elsewhere..well,he isnt company shill for nothing-and HE KNOWS IT.

Not at the middle class level or at the working class level; affirmative action and other HR quotas have made the white male the only cohort that it's legal and socially acceptable to discriminate against.

DeleteYou still havent postd that long list of Asians and Latinos hosts at KNBR,THEGAME,KGO,KSFO on and on. You want to deny that they have the best jobs? Why hasnt the bay area EVER had a black PBP announcer?..a job thats like old south discrimination.
I dont have a problem with white males..but I'm not blind to our cultures faults either.
And I would bet you-not Brooks or Davis or Kawakami..Poole..would tell you I'm wrong. Ask them if the hiring feild is equal. Ask.

ReplyDelete1. excluding FM, AM dial only, KGO is #2 and their numbers is not too far from KCBS, about 100,000 fewer but KCBS is simulcast on FM dial so the rating is combined listeners of two channels, AM and FM.
2. since Jan, KGO lost only about 20,000 listeners, 5% decline. despite all the dramatic changes, 5% loss is really minor.
3. since Jan, KKSF gained about 50,000 listeners. 15% increase from last month. quite significant but their total listeners is still half of KGOs.
i missed the old KGO dearly, but judging from these numbers, not a lot of movement in listening habit.
The solution is a wi-fi radio! I got mine from c crane but I bet They are available locally maybe radio shack? They work great
