Even without Manning, 49ers want Radio Brand; Stacy Tayor; A Breath of Fresh Air; Monday AM Topper

*Now that Peyton Manning has apparently chosen to take his talents to the Mile-High City, the 49ers will have to either go back in Alex Smith mode, (money will always soothe the temporary angst Smith must feel), or sign another free-agent QB.

Either way, expect the team's broadcast dept. to look at at least exploring the possibility of a new radio home once their KNBR deal expires. Even without the Manning splash, the Niners' status as the king of the Bay Area sports arena is still intact. As a team official told me, "the Manning status wasn't going to change our feelings in that direction either way."

KGO, a Cumulus property, is the natural radio destination for the Niners down the road. They can essentially have their own 50,000-watt KNBR and have the apparatus to promote the team via 810 AM. Moreover, the Giants can enjoy exclusivity and not be concerned with the red and gold.

Stay tuned.

*It was, indeed, a breath of fresh air to listen to entertaining, civil and thoughtful, radio discourse on the albatross AM station Sunday night. Stacy Taylor returned to the airwaves.

After weeks of inane hosts and a relentless attack on the intelligence quota of those few folks still interested in listening to intelligent radio, KGO brought back Taylor. A welcome back from the cacophony of dimbuld NY women comics, obscure names hosting shows that were full of dead air and ambushed with nitwit topics. Nothing went right. It was just simply awful. Maybe they wanted a carnival on the air--they got it.

Taylor's grace back on the aiwaves temporarily brought much-needed seltzer to the nausea of weeks past.

  1. Its a given that whatever is posted about the Raddy-Krueger show as crtique..they make an effort to do the opposite the next day..and then return to normal eventually.
Raddy-who I just had posted turns off the schtick with the fast east coast media..just wouldnt shut up today with Rosenberg. Krueger had to fight with the fake smile to get football-Manning talk as Radnich was all Vegas and tans conversation, forcing the schtick up everybodys ass.
Had to turn that noise off...because that's all it was.

    1. This Blog-historically- has been like the Radnich required reading. I cant name the number of times he's reacted to real criticism by me,by then doing the opposite OR MUCH more of the same. Its like a weird puppetmaster and bad puppet routine-lol. The Bentley was another recent exampple.
When your as egotistical and vain as Radnich..you get off on rubbing your Bentley in co workers faces. I bet -he can convince himself-their happy for him!
Back to the Kitchen Nightmare/Who wants to be rich shows...

  2. Who listens to KGO anymore?

If Cumulus bought the Mona Lisa and spray painted it all red, would you still pay to view it?

    1. My loyalty is to the hosts I like, not the radio stations. It use to be an easy choice, KGO 90 percent of the time, now I'm all over the dial. However I like Stacy Taylor a lot, and won't punish him because I'm mad at Cumulus, perhaps if good hosts gets good ratings, Cumulus mangement might come to the conclusion that a good host equals good ratings. One can only hope

    2. I doubt it because they had good hosts and good ratings and they fired them. With this strange weekend only talk format, it's hard to imagine they will beat any ratings they had for years. Listening to hosts I enjoy only benefits me. Management seems to be just grasping at thin air to fill up the time slots.

  3. Stacy Taylor and Pat Thurston are the only newstalk hosts worth listening to on KGONE. I hope Taylor returns and is not afraid to criticize Israel in the future. We get enough pro Israel radio via Rothman and Lowenstein, don't be intimidated by those who use the antisemitic card to silence critics. Indeed, what a relief it was to get Taylor yesterday after hearing the disingenuos black man discuss: teachers who bang their former pupils, Monteminor discuss: women who wear skimpy clothes, the idiot NY comedian discuss St. Patrick's day with her mother, some dude named Matt from God knows where talking about nothing and Karel's canned interviews...I respect and admire anyone who still tries to listen to Radnich, I can not stand him more than two minutes. I am someone who heard his fresh and funny show from the start, back when he was first a guest on with Ralph eons ago and then eventually got a show when Rush was on KNBR. Radnich's decline has been painful to watch in recent years.

  4. Say what you want about Monte but his show ends and KGone goes to sleep! Cope is B O R I N G Thurston and the rest do not know how to play radio and beg for calls. Pat was awful for Ronn today, riding the Ross Train for 3 hours with almost no calls. Karel yells and screams and does not sound prepared. As someone who listens to a ton of radio in my opinion Monte and Ronn are the only two worth a damn over there! KNBR is lucky to have the Giants and a competitor who is so awful! Stop yelling! Every show and every sports "fix" is shouted on the FM station!

  5. Alex Smith needs the Niners more than they need him. He can shop around if he likes to work a better deal if that is how his agent wants to play it but after years of selling us on "Alex isn't playing well because of too many changes around him", a total change to another team isn't in his best interest. If anything, it will expose him more.

  6. Pat "Thirst for One " is an one trick pony. She is not the brightest or the dumbest. But she is quite close to the later. We can all elaborate on her problems. But it all starts from the top.

    1. I think that Pat Thurston is very bright and at times can explain complicated matters very clearly. Her downside, to me, is that she gets too emotional about issues that she feels strongly about which I find irritating. I'm glad they have her on because she represents the left of the liberals well as far as explaining the point of view. The intensity and emotionality I could do without and I do, I turn her off when she gets to be too much.

  7. So...um, didn't you say "and all indications point to a deal" when referring to the 49ers and Manning earlier? No contrition on the fact that your "indications" were wrong? I mean for a guy who calls everyone out on every little mistake (real or imagined) you should probably point out when your sources are incorrect when you decide to dabble in journalism. Just saying.

  8. Hey, Rich, I took into consideration your fondness for Mr. Taylor and gave him a fresh listen and found him to be a good host on the night I listened with relevant topics. I fell asleep before his last topic but enjoyed what he had to say.

Fortunately, I've found 910 when it has The Lawyer and other hosts I enjoy; otherwise, I have found nonlocal alternatives to talk and until KGO sells, I'll just not tune in, even if it has hosts I enjoy like Thurston.

  9. Why isn't Stacy doing the timeslot that Maureen (don't recall her last name) has? Stacy is a familiar talker to The Bay Area, and listeners be more likely to turn the dial to him, rather than Maureen. Plus, her 'debut' show on KGO was such a weird one, that most folks probably don't want to repeat the experience.
