OK, in 3...2...1: Capitulate to the boy wonder producer and offer multiple subjects and hope one sticks...This morning, he leads with SOS Mirkarimi piece/Chuck Nevuis phoner and a few calls and then the board goes blank. He mumbles a few minutes, spots, news, traffic...and then quick detour to the Modesto 18 year-old lady with the Modesto teacher, (yawn). Of course, the usual banal stupid themed bumper back to segment and a one more brain-dead call. The boy wonder is having field day choreographing Ronnnnnnn.
Knibber
Insufferable GR playing footsie and offering more disingenuous love taps to his future replacement who bet the house on one NCAA bracket alone. The old guy isn't funny anymore, just annoying and full of himself. That used Bentley bit went over real well with the rank and file. Maybe you can give 'em a case of orange soda...Meanwhile, Krugs, you sound fairly amped up today--been having peets breaks with Byrnesie? I hear the Giants are so happy with you at class, Baer might let you into his suite and you can talk about Belt.
Whoa, dude!

I put the show on late..and I catch a part where Raddy is blasting some old time broadcaster for revealing he has battled deppression " Why not keep it to himself? Who would hire him with that red flag?"..then compared him to Terry Bradshaw who is oh,I dont know-a million times more famous then Radnich?..and employed who also battles depression.
ReplyDeleteThe ignoramus known as Radnich then called Bradshaw a phony..as if deppression means you can never smile or laugh again..More Radnich thinking from the Mid Ages.
Mind you, this idiot also has said Kareem Jabbar should keep his cancer treatmnet to himself "If he's not going to die,why talk about it?" said the stupido supreme of KNBR.
I guess that Pecon called Raddy down as a money hungry lover, who sucks up to the rich..and then let the fourth wall down by saying-"Your just like you are on air as off"..In other words..a hypocrite for Radnich to ramble on about Bradshaw.
THAT made him squirm..not too much since I dont think Raddy ever does feel much guilt. Why he's lasted he will tell you.
I wonder if Radnich will have words with Ralph Barbieri over his affliction, talking in public about it and being employed at KNBR?
DeleteMaybe Raddy will turn him in.
btw I thought Kate Scott might speak up to defend people with a disabilities..but no,She said nothing.
ReplyDeleteYou bring up a valid point but . . . . .
DeleteKate Scott will never cross Gary Radnich.
The day she does, she is out of a job.
As if he's being defiant, and like clockwork to your post-Raddy was going on about his used BENTLY. Considering he took a 50% pay cut to stay at KRON,A near equal cut to stay at KNBR,not even the hard times of fellow employee's means a damn thing to the jokester. He wanted his Bentley. Its all about Gary.
ReplyDeleteDamon Bruce is right..Raddy thinks he's a fine woman.
ONE MORE of todays "Radnich answer Rich Leibermans 415 Blog". Larry Kreuger got on all fours behind Radnich and whispered " When you enter a room, your the biggest thing in it" he cooed. Radnich with eyes rolling ate it up. The insecure bloated host and the anger management kiss ass were in bliss.
DeleteOh,-and I wonder if Joe Lacob enjoyed hearing Kreuger rip his son-and Meyers- as not worthy of working in the Warriors front office? He just came out and said Daddy hired him.
Did you hear it Joe?
I prefer K-Tel records.
DeleteI'm at a loss to understand the gratuitous nastiness that is/has been directed at Ronn Owens.
ReplyDeleteI hate what Cumulus has done to Bay Area radio (particularly KGOne), and I hate their new talk formula that caters to the belief, however true or false, that young adults still have a "Sesame Street," attention span.
However, when I listen to Ronn, I hear someone who is struggling to serve what's left of the audience he's known for years, while being forced to serve a new regime that has cost him a good deal of that audience.
Or, maybe, I'm not at such a loss to understand ...
Many, if not most, of the readers of/contributors to this blog, are either current or former local media employees (I'm the latter). It has to be common knowledge that Ronn was, once, "King of the Hill," at KGO Radio. I think many take pleasure at seeing him not only dethroned, but his hill levelled.
It's less than a year until we'll no longer have EVEN THIS memory of the community service that WAS KGO.
Has Ronn been known to irk the hell out of me? Yes. I can't think of a talk show host who hasn't. But, I'm willing to drive a mile in his Lexus, as well as be a little thankful for what's left of what will be gone, all too soon.
Is it you, Jan Black? I'm sure that Ronn will let you drive a mile in his Lexus.
DeleteAnd, no, I'm not a "current or former local media employee" (though Jan Black would fall into that category). I'm just someone that listened to KGO from 7 a.m. until 9 p.m. daily and listened to Ronn "leveling his (own) hill" long before he turned his back on his supposedly friends and collegues to hopefully shine up his already tarnished crown and add jewels to his scepter, with excitement over the 'new and improved' KGO format.
I noticed a significant change in him and his program at the beginning of the Iraq war....he slid fast, whining all the way, and never willing to accept any criticism, but quick to attack others. How much of his dislike of Obama and policies has to do with never securing the Oval office interview? Did the firing of Mark Silverman really help him regain any of his earlier pominence? I don't think so.
"It's less than a year until we'll no longer have EVEN THIS memory of the community service that WAS KGO." I really don't think that Ronn was the 'community service' of KGO...lets give THAT credit to Mickey and Jack..where it belongs..not to the one that puts their head into every photo, acting like they have contributed or raised the money, or whatever.
Maybe KGONE can hire Ronn's daughters as his co hosts...can do horsey hours and talk to dad about his music selections and his newest greatest gadgets....
I've actually begun to pity "mattress man"
ReplyDeleteThe show is so schizophrenic as to be barely listenable.
I'm waiting for them to pair Ronn with another host
That's what happens when you've sold your soul to the corporate suits, like Ronn has.
How do you say KGOne? Is it K-"GONE" or KG-"one" or KGO-"ne". I don't get it.
ReplyDeleteIt's K-Gone. As in KGO, gone forever. Cumulus has decided it needs a younger audience. You know, young... as in no money to be able to afford to buy anything at all from an advertiser. That ought to really jack up their advertising rates.
DeleteI say K-Gone!
DeleteI think part of the Ronnn problem is that he doesn't have Gene and Gil's show to feed off anymore. That was one cool part about the station we lost -- the hosts would sometimes do rebuttal shows, gently taking their colleagues to task, and re-presenting a topic in a new light. I enjoyed that, and it gave me another reason to keep That wonderful station on all day long, especially when I was out walking or puttering around the house or on the computer.
ReplyDeleteI was one of those who got hooked on that station in my 20's, and now in late 40's I feel a bit lost with nothing much on radio to keep me company. But I guess I'm getting used to life without radio for the most part. Evolve.
As for forcing Ronnn to get a co-host, I had't thought about that. What an indignity that would be for him to have to share his program with some perky bubbly 20 year old female airhead (I'm sure Cumulus would hire an airhead for the spot, rather than one of the many intelligent, mtalented young women out there).
Anyway, I'm sure Ronnn would offer some flat speech about how "excited" he was about the new host and the great new direction of the station.
Of course, we would all know that the co-host would be just a way to phase Ronn out to the matress pasture at the end of his contract, leaving just the dumb young (cheap) cohost to go solo for a while until they decide to try something different to get even younger listeners.
Maybe they could air some Teletubbies segments from 9 to Noon to grab that really young pre-school audience segment.
No charge for my ideas, Cumulus evildoers!
Tolbert has extended one tired, uninteresting radio talk host's career. With same ownership now perhaps he can hold Ronn's hand too.
DeleteYou are so right, I enjoyed the different takes on subjects, and especially the way Gene would take Ronn to task, all in a good nature way, I also enjoyed when hosts used the expertise of another host, Ronn would have John Rothman on talking about presidential politics, Len Tillim on the law, so you really felt you were a part of a family, and you felt connected to the hosts and the station, no so much anymore. What happen the the weatherman from Channel 7, Spencer something, I forget his full name, but Ronn would have him on ever so often, and it was usually good radio, especially when he did his Rodnye Dangerfield impression. Even the guest Ronn had on use to be better, and for the most part it was an hour long, not these cut up segments they have now.
DeleteWho can forget when Ronn had Carol Channing on. Anyway do turn into 910 they are better than nothing.
Terrestrial radio is dead to me. Cumulus kill it in the Bay Area.
ReplyDeleteDid anyone catch Ronn's side comment the other day in which he said, "Say you're, oh, a talk show host...oh wait, then you'd be fired." Darn me, I can't remember what the talk was about, but this comment was uttered in Ronn's offhand way, where sometimes you hardly notice, but you catch a little glint of sly humor. Sorry I can't remember the full context.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I guess Ronn wasn't so lucky keeping his job, when so many of the old audience are bitter towards him - that must be very hard to bear. Unfortunately he didn't handle the whole thing brilliantly, but I'm not sure he could really say much against his employers while on the air.
