A Rockin', Sockin' KGO Weekend in Store; Monte Movin' on Up, Baby!

Tired of hearing Karel whining in the night, followed by Monty Montemoyer screamin' and shoutin' at the late-night moon?

**

Your wishes, via the Cumulus gods, are about to come true.

**

Tim Monteminor is "Movin' On Up" to the eastside of morning broadcastin' starting Saturday, coming out of the new KGO Weekend News at 10 a.m. til' 1 in the p.m.! "Monty in the Morning" (or whatever the show will be called) kicks off the newer-than-new weekend schedule on the mighty KGO Eight-One-Oh-my-golly! This will be a kick in the snowboarding fun time for the lunch bunch!

**

With above average to almost excellent interviewing style, Monty brings his 39-year-old self for a return appearance on the new weekend schedule ball-on-the-wall at 10 a.m. til' 1 p.m. -- right after to John Hamilton's new two-hour KGO "On the Go" which rolls from 8-10 a.m. right after "God Talk" ... at least for now.

**

Let's quietly listen in to a "KGO / Cumulus Programming Logic Session" over there on Hawthorne now in progress ...

"First, no word of change for Brent Walters, and no sighting, yet, of Brian Copeland "Talking to You". I said "YET", so, assume at your own risk as this is a friendly competition and again, please ... no wagering."

**

"Channel 7's iconic Michael Finney let it out that he'll be in this fray somewhere, so, we're thinkin' ... where?"

**

"Pat Thurston is reduced to Saturday night (with a guest host this Saturday, maybe) 6 - 9 before the amazing Karel 9 to Midnight. She is back on Sunday 4 to 7, again, before the Karel Show 7 - 10. One can imagine the main topic of discussion next Saturday of that "show."

**

"So, that means Finney could occupy, maybe, between 1 and 4 on Sunday. Oooooo, could this be the magic Sunday lineup? Nah, that would make too much sense! Then who would do 10 to Midnight on Sunday ... Copie? Oh, man ... you talk about radio's version of hell! 10 to midnight on Sunday. Scratch that. Maybe Copeland can do 3-4 p.m. and Finney from 1 - 3. Hmmmm. That could work! We might have something here! But what?"

**

"Nobody would be that cruel to Copie, would they, Cumulus? 10 to Midnight? No way, Jose! "Yes, we know, Brian ... but look at that signal! The 50,000 watt blowtorch from Alaska to Central America with the Rockies top to bottom, holding the Big 8-10 back from being heard in, like, um, oh yeah, east of Salt Lake City! Plus, there's the Internet, too!"

**

"Nah, that wouldn't be humane. Maybe Cumulus will do the "Red Eye Radio All-Night Trucker's Fun Show" starting at 10 Sunday night for six incredibly looooong hours until 4 a.m. (with a one hour repeat) and the start of the "KGOne Morning Snooze" with Jon and Jenn or Jenn and Jon, whatever. It works for George Noory on "Coast to Coast". Hell, some stations just wind that paranormal POS up and let it rip starting at 6 pm till 5 a.m. the next day, I kid you not! I'm dyin' if I'm lyin'!"

**

"Or, maybe, we might just hear the KGO Engineering Team get in on the Sunday night schedule with a 1000 cycle tone 10 to midnight, with More Code ID's "On the Fives" instead of traffic! DX heaven! Now, we have both heaven AND hell!"

**

"That would leave Copie on Saturday from 1 - 6. Nope, Cope, that just ain't happening, baby. Maybe ... 1-4 with someone doing 4-6 on Saturday. Or, maybe Christine Craft from 1-4 and the Cope-mieser 4-6. Oh yeah! That would work, yeah it would! No. too logical, again. Maybe it will be KGO weekend nooz in the late afternoon, putting Copeland on from 1-4. That would work, too! Yay! We figured it out, but probably not! Gosh, we use a lot of "!" around here!"

**

Now, there. That's it. The new KGO Weekend schedule. You stay classy, Cumulus.

  1. Poor KGO! They seem to be doing everthing wrong. Christine Craft is one of their biggest stars, very inteligent, logical, and fun. Put her someplace good. Copeland is nothing special, Finnny is good stuff, and KAREL is still a train wrek!

Monty is good, but his anti immigrant rants are getting old, right wing anger is no fun. HOWabout listening to DR BILL on 910! HES BACK AND HES GREAT! Hopefully 910 will soon have a regualr schedule for the rest of the quality hosts?

    1. I think 910 will continue to evolve, today they had a new guest host Enid Goldstein, she use to fill in on KGO, I like her, but missed John Rothman on this presidents day, and his mountain of presidential knowledge, plus the historic soundbites he would incorporate into the program, Ms. Goldstein spend an hour letting callers vent and voice their opinion about what is going on with KGO, all missed the old KGO and all were rooting for 910 to pick up the mantle so to speak, one caller mentioned their ratings keep going down, you think!! Problem is KGO has the reach 910 does not, us in the immediate Bay Area won't have a problem, but 910 won't reach up to Sacramento or even Vacaville, I use to be in outside sales and was amazed how far the KGO signal could reach.

    2. Oh, How I miss the Mega-Power of KGO.
910 doesn't even reach my little valley in Orinda!

    3. Coopland and owens are all they have left. Monty sucks worse than Craft. I'm listening to 910 more

  2. It could be worse, they could broadcast Doug Stephan's "Good Day" Show. He's the guy that stole recorded callers from A & G and pretended they were calling his show. Google it.

  3. "Jump the Shark" - a term used to describe a moment when something that was once great has reached the point where it will now decline in quality annd popularity.

That is usually determined by special guest stars, someone going blind, an improbable marriage, bringing stars from shows that have not jumped yet or as they did on "WKRP in Cincinnati" drop live turkeys out of the traffic helicopter..... Oh boy!

  5. Listened to the new KGO this morning. During 3 top of the hour newscasts the lead story was about the Livermore cop who had his leg broken by a group of rowdy teens. The incident happened Friday night/early Saturday. WHY is this story even relevant on Monday? Big enough to lead at least 3 hourly newscasts?

Then I caught Ronn's 11am hour discussing the ESPN/Chink in the armor/Jeremy Linn incident. One of the callers said "Kike. Nigger. Kike. Nigger. Kike. Nigger." Ronn cut the caller off and said "well that guy just said "K" and "N" but you didn't hear it." Long pause. Ronn: oh I guess it got on the air."

  6. Even without the help of Citadel and Cumulus, K-GONE has not had a steady talk show host lineup since Pete Wilson, whose untimely death set off a never-ending pattern of musical chairs, exacerbated by the demise of Bernie Ward and by Gene Burns' frequent health problems. Kinda tough to hang onto listener loyalty under those conditions. JW

  7. Do they have ANY idea of what they're aiming for -- short term or long term? This constant shuffling when even the hosts can hardly remember what time they're on is bizarre. Is this Hosely or Jared or both? Seems that they're trying to lose any of the few listeners they had left by making the weekend regulars hard to locate. Unbelievable!!

  8. I'm SO tired of Copeland's "this is Brian Copeland talking", as if anyone would be confused enough to think he's singing.
As for Chris Craft, she must get paid by the word. On the rare occasion when she lets a caller get through to speak, she frequently interrupts with a long speech, then doesn't let the caller resume. She needs to spend less time talking and more time listening. Some of us just MIGHT like to hear what a caller has to say.

  9. So you're saying Copeland would be doing 7Live M-F, Radio Sa-Sun, and a new stage show? Can you say "spreading yourself too thin"? Something is going to suffer. Might be a good idea to keep an eye on that guy.

  10. Rich,
    Copie is rotten....

  11. Looks like KGO management is messing with the way Lynn Jimenez presents her money information during the morning news. She's a gem and too good for KGO.

  12. Who cares, really?

Does anybody with any savy listen to KGO anymore?

I am not going out of my way to re-tune my dial just to hear a few hours of OK programming lost in a sea of caca. It reminds me of the old days of block programmed radio....you tuned into the classics hour, which was wedged between the gospel hour and the polka parade.

    Thumbdown!

  13. KGO is so yesterday, they were once a player and now well they are out dated like a phone booth.

    1. I second that!

I simply don't listen. And I was GLUED to this station a few months back!

Funny how they completely destroyed a great radio station in one fell swoop.

Sometimes I hope that maybe this is all one big practical joke! That they will suddenly say, "Ha! Gotcha suckahs!" and return sanity to the air.

  14. KGO Program Schedule is has not been updated. Staff Directory still has Bob Brinker, Stacy Taylor, Christine Craft.. Facebook comments are being blocked... Way to go Dick Heads and Ayatollah Jared

  15. Enid Goldstein was excellent last night on 910 and gave some insight into the KGO mess. I want to marry her voice!

Radio is hard these days. I am all over the dial looking for good talk. Used to keep the car and house radios on KGO most of the time. 910 fades in my area about 5:15 pm.

Can someone explain Rush to me? I listened to him in the 90's and found him entertaining. Politicians changed but his schtick never did. I found him boring after a while and quit listening.

He must be on 4 different stations that I can here. Would seem to me that only fractures his audience. Can that many people still find him entertaining?

With so many great talk show hosts out there wouldn't it make sense to put one of them up against Rush and Ronn. Seems to me an alternative would be refreshing?

  16. Hosley and the kid don't know WTF to do. It takes time to build and maintain an audience. 1) You create the product/mix; 2) You put it on the air and give it time to build. If you have to piss off and alienate audience you do it (once) and start over (once). These clowns seem to enjoy annoying audience and personifying incompetence...Meanwhile, some of us are discovering Internet and WiFi radio.

  17. I've listened to Monty's show twice, and oddly enough, both times he replayed interviews that he had earlier in the show. Neither time was there anything extraordinary about the interviews...at least not content wise. On both occassions I had heart the interviews the first time through, so when they were ready to replay them, I turned the dial to find something new.

  18. 'Monty' or whatever that clown's name is is a joke! The guy is nothing more than a know it all blowhard that is unfortunately all too frequently the kind of announcers we're hearing more and more of on the radio these days, as these big companies dumb down their stations.

Why waste the time even mentioning the guy's name? He's not worth the time to talk about or listen to!

  19. Enough with the Karel hate. I like you both and you are being a big bully. Please just let him be.
