Are you ready for some Mike Huckabee? As JD Hayworth peters out at KSFO,...and Rush rushes on NewsTalk 910 (The lovely world of Corporate Radio)

So, Bay Area radio people, are you ready for some Mike Huckabee?

As the NY Times points out, the former Arkansas governor has been hired by that lovely giant, Cumulus, to try to gnaw a few Rush Limbaugh followers.

Ain't it a great country or what?

Locally, Limbaugh tonsils on ClearChannel's, "NewsTalk 910"; Limbaugh used to broadcast on KSFO and now they are laboring with the unappetizing ex-Arizona congressman, JD Hayworth. (Do you see a pattern here? Hello, again?) Yikes!

And people wonder why there was such an outcry over the old KGO. Because even at its worst, the old KGO was distinctively LOCAL and original, with LOCAL and independent voices, from slight conservative to libertarian and liberal and progressive. What a hearty dose of unique LOCAL content that disappeared into the black hole. (In spite of making money, like PROFIT, you know?)

I'm starting to get a headache again.

  1. Huckabee?

    Sigh. They may as well...

I think we should all go sing along with Tony Bennett next Tuesday. Hopefully, local radio will honor THIS. Ya think?

    1. Is Hayworth broadcasting from the Bay Area or Arizona? I don't listen, but I'm just curious if he is really local, or just pretends he is like Karel because his program is not syndicated.

    2. From Scottsdale. He does fill-on on several stations as need requires. Not syndicated

  3. Yes good point.
Live and local is the way to go. There is a connection.
Nothing worse than to hear someone speak as if they are in studio.

  4. Just like made in America, local is becoming a thing of the past. SO sad to say.

  5. I know Geoff Metcalf has been trying to get back. Metcalf was on last Sunday and kicked butt. The Colonel used to compete against Rush before KSFO got him and I recall he did well. He was also wired to Sacramento and WAS for real local. He must have spoken to every conservative and gun group in the Bay area. He started the whole MTBE/Smog check campaign even before Lee and Mel joined in. He was smart, let opposing views on the air, was a sharp dresser. Not sure why he keeps the 19th century facial hair?

    1. Okay, so yeah, I AM trying to get my foot back in the door at KSFO. Yes, I got to do a Sunday but they cancelled the second one to put on Kim Komando so I'm not sure have a shot. The audience was great, management 'said' they liked what I did, but despite the lip service to 'wanting' live and local they seem boxed into syndicated (and way delayed) product. Thanx to whoever wrote the nice things above, but Rich, what's the deal with just about EVERYone posting as 'Anonymous'. Snark is cooler if you have the balls to put your own name to it.....
