'Major Morale Issues' at KRON; Developing...

Sources: From bad to worse. Lots of people calling in sick...screaming and yelling by a management type in the newsroom; the morale, according to several is the "worst" it's been in several months.

"Some are even drinking to remain calm."

Developing...

  4. Hateful ownership hires hateful managers. Young knows no other way to do business. When KRON was successful, you had owners who respected good talent, and hired managers who reflected their respect for the people they hired. When advertisers spend money at KRON, they support this hateful system and allow it to continue. I pay attention to who those advertisers are, and act accordingly.

  5. Even though he always has a red nose and face and looks bloated Gary Ratsnitch is adamant that he does not drink. So he is not one of the drinkers at KRON ;)

    1. Does anyone know whatever happen to the NBC Sharred services agreement? This article appeared about a year ago in Broadcasting/Cable:

NBC is in advanced negotiations to partner with Young Broadcasting's KRON San Francisco, according to bankruptcy court documents filed last week.
A brief filed by Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal, the law firm representing Young in bankruptcy, said Comcast's deal to acquire a majority stake in NBC does not affect the progress made in talks to work out a shared services agreement between KRON and NBC, which owns KNTV in San Jose.

KRON would presumably operate out of KNTV headquarters should the deal be worked out. NBC Local Media apparently isn't the only network-owned group interested in a management role at KRON. "The negotiations with NBC have progressed," reads the brief, "and there is at least one other network interested."

Since it doesn't look like KRON will be relocating to San Jose is the NBC partnership a void issue at this point?

  8. KRON used to be a proud station....it had people like Barry Tomkins, Jan Hutchins, Pete Liebengood, and Ron Barry doing sports. Vernon still does a good job, but he's been treated shamefully by the management which now forces him and other on air talent to go out and hold their own cameras, shoot their own stories and also edit them.

That's the kind of thing that up and coming TV reporters do in small time markets like Eureka and Redding, and that's all well and good because you learn the basics that way. But in the major market? That's called 'cost-cutting.'

Welcome to the wonderful world of KRON TV. And the regular programming....paid for garbage! When NBC went south to channel 11 in San Jose, things started to go in the tank for KRON, and I think they are finally bottoming out!

  10. According to Wikipedia which has an entry for KRONs shared services agreement it says: In February 2010, Young discussed the possibility of entering into a shared services agreement with NBC Universal, the owner of KNTV.[3] At a station meeting in November 2011, it was announced there would be no shared services agreement, and that the station planned to move to a smaller, state-of-the-art facility within the next year to year and a half. Within a week, it was also learned the station's master control would be operated remotely from Atlanta, GA beginning in mid-January.

    So there you have it.
