**Melanie Morgan and I are like fire and ice on politics, but somehow, behind the femme fatale with way too much GOP bravado, is a nice woman, in spite of her bites of anger. She has returned to KSFO with the angry weatherman, Brian Sussman. Suss, wouldn't it have been far easier to just say that "Officer Vic" was let go by Cumulus? Actually, "fired", without notice last Friday.
**Memo to readers: I was aware that Gene Burns
Burns will not be working this week; ex-KGOers will be taking his place this week. Burns is scheduled to return next week.
**Yeah, that CW Nevius new burst of energy on SweetJack/KGO this morning was enough to pray for another Banana Sam update. (Hey Chuck, they're really giving you $50?)
**Meanwhile, mattress man is back at the SweetJack farm, fresh from his latest manicure/pedicure, complete with a new cruise planned for March, mucho shopping trips on the Union St. corridor and his wine outings with Gavin Newsom at Plumpjack! How "cool!" (Make sure you get extra seats for Jared and Copey).
**The new "810 AM": Sweetjack, Cumulus help-wanted ads, dead air and a new chef! Damn, honey, I'm jacked! The 810 mojo: if you're unemployed, get some SweetJack, apply for a gig at Cumulus and lay down on your Sleeptrain mattress! "THE POWER OF RADIO!"
**There's no truth to the rumor that the "new" 810 AM has hired Banana Sam to become its new PD, but speculation is still rampant.
**AM Radio: The sweet smell of SweetJack.
**Meanwhile, KCBS ran about 400 stories concerning 49ers playoff tickets. Thanks guys, the 49ers approve of your message. (What? Like you're desperate?)
**"Your 'News and Information' Station!" Yeah, if you like SweetJack, repeat bad news, Chuck Nevius' zzzz spots and Chef Ryan, dude! THE POWER OF RADIO!
**Some positive to the Cumulus/KGO ambush: Jennifer Jones: less giggling. On the other hand, "IT'S FRIDAY!" still hovers. THE POWER OF RADIO!
*Chef Ryan Scott first recipe of the new year: Ronn Owens turkey casserole.
HEY, CAN YOU SEE I'M IN MID-SEASON FORM?
**Never thought the KNBR Morning Show would be like Masterpiece Theatre compared to SweetJack/AM 810! THE POWER OF RADIO!
**SweetJack, Banana Sam, LA arson fires, folks, it's just gonna be an effing ball this year! THE POWER OF RADIO!
**Oh, Dan Ashley? Keep your day job.
I'm RICH LIEBERMAN and I AM at the EDITOR'S DESK!

ReplyDeleteSigh. I just read this: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/12/05/business/media/clear-channel-and-cumulus-form-daily-deal-alliance.html?_r=3
ReplyDeleteLots of Sweet Jack coming at listeners. Bleech.
Uh,more of why THEGAME is becoming KNBR FM. Whitey (Glenn) Gleason and Mike Urban saying the A's trades for prospects is "Good for the team's rebuilding" Ok-I nominate Gleason as stooge of the year so far. He's the guy who grilled Slick Billy on what he puts in his oatmeal as Beane prepared to destroy Oakland's jewel of 4 WS champs.
ReplyDeleteI thought he was at first a throwback to the Frank Dill types when he first hit here..oh,was I so wrong. So wrong.
Someone wanna explain the SweetJack References? Is this some advertiser on KGO?
ReplyDeleteSigned,
Someone who hasn't turned on KGO since the firings.
There are so many wonderful things about Gene Burns. His wonderful pipes, his elocution, his brain, his ability to let people talk while circling for the kill, all very politely= great radio. His health, complicated by so many things..the diabetes premier among them. poor guy loves food, does a food show, apparently tempted by the cookies and goodies, goes into a diabetic coma...can cause brain problems and strokes, and probably more importantly..those falls..which are disastrous when his physical stability is already challenged by his arthritis, poor vision etc. Somehow he has managed over the years to rise above all those things and give us wonderful radio..Here's hoping he will again!!It would really piss him off..but he needs a 'MINDER" who won't let him near the sweets...etc.
ReplyDeleteLen, I actually learned valuable knowledge from your show.
ReplyDeleteI'll tune in today as long as I don't forget!
Marie, that Sweet Jack vomit makes me ill.
ReplyDeleteNot sure anyone who joins Islamophobe and liar and Christian hypocrite Sussman is a person worthy of praise, but it's your blog and your opinion.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait for Len. What's KGO? Never heard of it.
And, re: Karel: Karel, you ain't no journalist, honey. Never were. Never will be. Call yourself what you want. Entertainer? You wouldn't even make a D movie. And you want to be on TV? You better get in shape, dude.
Melanie Morgan is the antithesis of Gene Burns. Gene will disagree with someone on the merits. Melanie makes personal, childish comments on those she disagrees with.
ReplyDeleteAs for Gene's current illness: I am encouraged to hear he will be released from the hospital on Thursday. It must indeed be a minor stroke.
N O D O U B T B R O U G H T O N B Y S T R E S S F R O M T H E I D I O T S A T K G O A N D C U M U L U S.
Assholes.
Bay Area radio was sure better when Jim Lange, Frank Dill & Dr. Don were holding down the fort....
ReplyDeleteSussman and Morgan? That's just "suck radio" on steroids!
ReplyDeleteKSFO lost Limbaugh...so now they got nothing and are getting ready to expire just like KGO did!
I wouldn't presume that Gene's latest hospitalization has anything to do with the bloodbath. He has severe artherosclerotic disease, severe diabetic problems, a fused spine, virtually no sight..etc..any of these things can trigger a cascade of health failures..well before cumulus..gene was frequently off the air..and in the hospital..He does the best resurrection act in the business.
ReplyDeleteif this is midseason form its gonna be a winless season.
ReplyDeleteAgreed 11:43, except I'm sure this stress has exacerbated Gene's physical health problems. After all, he semi-collapsed at KGO when hearing the news he lost his job.
ReplyDeleteYes, Gene's health issues are well known – so all the more reason to be absolutely appalled with the inhumane manner in which he was terminated.
ReplyDeleteThey could have shown an ounce of compassion, but they chose not to. What kind of evil, sadistic power trip are these Dickies on?
Rich,
ReplyDeleteYou are on fire today. But please refrain from speculating on any of my current offers. KGO is not even on my radar. If I want to work with monkeys, I will stay at the zoo.
THE GAMES ratings are rising...KNBR has sunk like a rock even with the 49ers.
ReplyDeleteAnd-it might be withdrawn at any time- a 'S' salute to Teirney and Davis who were smokin yesterday with blistering Raider and A's and Warrior talk. I'm not sure what got into them-but I dug it. I wish I could have caught more of their best show ever.
wow Rich, your in great form! Dan can sing and play drums decently. He might have a 2nd career when he hangs up his anchor tonsils.
ReplyDeleteRadar
10:39 whoever you are; the kind words about Gene Burns will live on for a long time. Gene burns does his job and never hurts anyone. KGO made a major error by letting him go.
ReplyDeleteSomeone please explain to me what SweetJack is.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
Can we please give Gene Burns a LITTLE privacy? We all know he's been in precarious health but I'm sure he'd loathe the idea that people are spelling out details of various ailments and speculating on how his firing affected him. Fact is, no one really knows. Let's just wish him well and hope his much needed voice makes it back to airwaves. He's been missed the most.
ReplyDeleteMelanie Morgan is a total windbag who adds nothing to the show. Such a relief when she was taken off the air previously. I can't believe they have her back, especially teamed with blowhard Sussman. Full disclosure I am a a well right of center Republican.
ReplyDeleteTHE GAMES ratings are rising...
ReplyDelete95.7 The Game went from .8 to .9 in the last book. Guess that qualifies as "rising" but maybe you should set the bar a little higher after 9 months on the air.
Melanie Morgan is the best.
ReplyDeleteAnd like most conservative women, attractive!
No Melanie Morgans is like a 16 year old girl who makes stupid comments about shit no one cares about. Is it the Brian Sussman show or some viva la diva BS. Why are they now discussing celebrities more and more? i want news and politics people!!
DeleteI was soooo bummed when Officer Vic "left the show" guess they couldn't afford a intelligent man his salary. Melanie Morgan is the worst commentator ever if I can even call her that. If Facebook had a voice it would be Melanie, lame, off-topic, no thought... Brian goes to make a point, melanie jumps in with some dumb off-the-wall comment that is sooo out of place it almost embarrasses me. You can hear the dead air when both Brian and the person being interviewed hears Melanie's comments. I was waiting for Brian to tell her to shut up, or at least make some kind of educated comments but it never happened. He is now her bitch basically.. I literally WILL NOT listen to KSFO anymore. They lost Rush but kept Shawn? Shawn is another windbag. Sell another book or tour another concert you "great american" sellout. The only reason I dare to preview the station now is to catch a bit of Mark Levin. He's about all they have going for them. I tried 910AM for a bit but cant stand most of the hosts (the new station or whatever.)
DeleteI deleted the KSFO app from my phone so no more listening in the shower while getting ready for work. I cant understand why they would reformat their station to such crap. RIP Sussman show... just give it time.. BRING BACK OFFICER VIC!!!!!
@ 2:36
ReplyDeleteAhhhh, the "time to move on" manipulator is back again. You mean don't expose how those selfish bastards at Cumulus media treated a man recovering from a serious illness, right?
Silence is golden – for Cumulus only. BTW: Gene had bounced back beautifully before the rug was pulled out from under him.
2:36....Gene has always been very specific about his myriad of physical challenges....on the radio. If you were a regular listener, you would know that.
ReplyDeleteWhat a paranoid lot...I posted at 2:36. It's unseamly to be bantering about the details (in this case proved to be WRONG!)about someone's health problems. If Gene wants to talk about them on the radio, that's his choice. I have enough of my own personal reasons to hate Cumulus. Firing Gene added to the pile. I still don't think his personal health issues need be revealed by others before he has a chance to talk about them himself. It's manners. It's protocol. It does not exist in the blogosphere, clearly.
ReplyDeleteI would tune in and listen to Banana Sam.
ReplyDeleteyes 6:41...you wouldn't want to be "unseamly"..
ReplyDelete8:03 childish twit
ReplyDeleteI do wish I could see in Melanie Morgan what you see. My politics, for the most part, align with hers, but I find her abrasive and highly annoying. I don't get how Brian can tolerate her speaking over him as she pushes him out of the way. I don't get it... at all. I miss Officer Vic.
ReplyDeleteAs for Len Tillem and the other ex-KGO gang... it's great to have found them on Newstalk 910. I've run into old friends there... and now, sadly, I go there to escape Ms. Morgan in the morning, because I've given up on trying to like her.
