"The mood has been grim ever since the first round of layoffs. Now that most of the personnel have been moved to 55 Hawthorne, 900 Front feels like a ghost town."
No matter how "cheery" and gleeful the "product" comes off the airwaves, the island of dread known as Cumulitis-central, KGOne, is in the doldrums. The above quote is from a vet staffer who's just trying to trudge along and deal with it, day by day. Unlike others, this person has options, and doesn't have to use the Internet to say how everything is just peachy, (think, someone).
A frightening scenario is looming: Once KGOone leaves the Embarcadero studios and its entire staff relocates to 55 Hawthorne, (where SF Cumulus abounds--KNBR, KFOG, 107.7 FM), KGOne, still a union-run store, has a confluence with non-union, Cumulus stations. Ouch. You want awkward? You got it. About as mushy as the current crappola on the "new 810."
**The next KGO-TV News Director? Stephanie Adrouny, a respected, hard-working newsperson, who has mucho support in the newsroom-- still in shock and awe over the departure of Kevin Keeshan. One other potential candidate: Tracy Watkowski.
Note to some of you newbies: KGO-TV is not affiliated with KGOne radio. And they approve of that message.
*Yeah Melanie Morgan, I do listen and did hear you say about a week ago that Mirkarimi "should step down and resign"--I'm delighted both you and the MAN have now urged the Sheriff to "take a leave of absence." Making sense of morning radio, stop the presses.
*Why the hell do I listen to KSFO?, (only in the morning, sporadically), is to hear the MAN doing his strange things, (no such thing as climate change, Obama bad, blah, blah, blah, GOP, great, blah, blah, blah, and yes; trump up obscure, loud, righteous Black conservative guys that say the Democons are evil, blah, blah, blah--it's a guilty pleasure).
And Mel, in spite of your bizarro politics, I still have a feeling you have a twinkle in your eye. You can be funny and cool, and yet be damn grating at the same time. Us damn "libs" have a sense of humor too.
*49ers, rain, 49ers, rain, 49ers rain...and that's the rest of your news week.
*Damon Bruce is the greatest thing since sliced bread and if you don't know that already, Damon will tell you. Yo, D, take a deep breath for awhile and relax. You're good, but the furniture needs to be replaced, got it?
*Follow me on Twitter
Right now, it looks like the 9'ers ands fans will catch a break. Some showers before the game and then rain late Sunday afternoon or evening. Could be dry!

Delete#11:16 - are you one of the Dickey Boys interns? I ask because your post is impossible to read with its typos and misspellings and poor grammar.
DeleteJust wondering. Perhaps remedial English might be better for your to spend your time on instead of coming over here?!
Taking advantage of the "Economies of Scale" to save even more money by..aCumulating it all in one building at 55 Hawthorne,a Cumulus radio concentrate asylum. See...KGO has KGOned as one of many Cumulii radio outlets. A total distruction of a Heritage station to this. What a shame.
ReplyDeleteTo Find Missing in Action ex-KGO hosts: http://on.fb.me/FindFormerKGOHosts
KGO'ers think it's grim now? just wait until they've been at 55 Hawthorne for more than a month. truly feel sorry for them.
ReplyDelete11:16 am, Cumulus is an American corporation doing what thousands of other US businesses have done -- they pursued the highest return on their investment and cared not for the people who lost their jobs.
ReplyDeleteThe only difference is this was not some unnamed corporate monster firing people we do not know -- we know and liked these former KGO hosts and thus their firings make us angry.
Finally, you're angry. I've been pissed off since '07.
DeleteCumulus will have a battle on its hands legally if they try to bust the AFTRA union or engineer's union. Union employees won't take it laying down, nor will the union(s).
ReplyDeleteWill they? Nah. That would mean having to get Owens out of the union. That would be a stretch.
Cumulus will just lay off the union employees, offer them new non-union positions...at half the salary and zero benefits. That's how they roll. Easy as pie.
DeleteHere again, it's about doing battle with a company that isn't in the Bay Area and doesn't have the same values. They don't care how many protests there are. They WILL DO as they please.
DeleteMy reporters always said I was "conservative." I don't think they ever heard SussISLAMOPHOBEman. This guy makes me a friggin' commie. Yes, dear, conservatives do believe in climate change, evolution, Food Stamps, an end to the banking ruling class in our political sphere, etc. Not all conservatives are idiots like Limbaugh, Sussman, etc. They are right-wing nutcases. And there IS a distinction. Oh, and conservatives can change their minds from supporting an invasion of Iraq on the false premise of WMDs to be opposed from this point forward to our wars of opportunism.
ReplyDeleteAnd, Karel, if you are still reading: good job lately. You must have read Rich's blog to see how we were nailing you for all your sexual references (no pun intended), all of your other immature behavior, etc. Yeah, even a conservative can listen to Karel.
Truth has no politics.
Still, it's Karel "all about me!, me!, me!" which has long been weary.
DeleteIs Ro N N broadcasting from Park Howard, uummm 55 Howard Street?
ReplyDeleteNewest worst commercial RL415 MEDIA needs to point out? Those Halpern law offices ads that say "If you are ever pulled over, be polite to the police officer, don't lie,but NEVER admit you've been drinking"..uh-whaa? sorta sounds like the motto of KNBR and Cumulus.
ReplyDeleteI should add-Those KRON commercials on ADHD hosted by Viki Liviakis? nothing works better for my ADHD concentration then Viki in a tight skirt hiked up sitting while doing her infomercial. She's done miracles for me!..never paid more attention.
DeleteHey Folks...it's time for all of you to wake up and realize what's been going on. This country has been stolen from you, from me, from all of us by these robber-barons, who have employed their high priced henchmen to
ReplyDeletebend and twist the rules by which we're all supposed to play.
It's very much like what happened in the latter part of the 19th century, until the magnate JP Morgan said to Teddy Roosevelt: "Can't my man (meaning his lawyer) and your man (meaning the then president's attorney general) talk this over?"
Roosevelt's replay: "sorry, that's not how we do things in a democracy." From that time forward, reform was on its way with the eventual abolition of child-labor, the formation of safety in the workplace, and the start of a reasonable 40 hour work week with decent wages for the working man.
Unfortunately our government has remained in the back pocket of big business for many years, but since the 1980s things have really gotten out of hand.
Most of us didn't pay attention in recent years, because our country was awash in so much false prosperity that we didn't realize that big business had created a false bubble of prosperity that finally popped....except for it didn't pop for the oligarchs. They not only managed to keep most of what they had but even added to it while millions went hungry or on unemployment.
As long as this government continues to allow deregulation in all industries, until our president and our congress and supreme court
pass a new law that proclaims that corporations DO NOT have the same rights as individual citizens, we'll continue to be tormented by high unemployment, rising health care costs, poorer public education and safety, and more illiteracy and lawlessness.
Yeah, and if you listen to slavish apologists for big business such as Limbaugh and Hannity, this is all the fault of the liberals! Right!
The late Bill Buckley would spin in his grave if he could hear the bloviating nonsense that these self-righteous wind-bags spew out on the airwaves everyday. And there are unfortunately many Americans who are
either naive, uninformed, uninterested in learning the real truth, or are just plain stupid, and they listen to these boobs as if they were
some lofty oracles!
I have simple question to ask of them: Who's in charge of this country? Not common Americans, not the 'little guy,' not the vanishing middle class.......no...it's the 'entitled' pricks who work in big business and their good friends among the elected officials, most of whom work for the Republican Party.
Old time real conservative Republicans are as aghast about this current wave of avaricious, bottom-line mentality that has gripped this country like a sick fever and is bringing us down as anyone. Bill Buckley and his ilk would throw up their hands in disgust if they could see what has happened to this once great country at the hands of these 'patriotic Americans.'
I think it was Samuel Johnson who once said: "Patriotism is the last refuge of the scoundrel!"
It's no wonder that so many of these right-wingers wrap themselves up in our flag and claim that they are the only ones who stand for what this country is all about! What a bunch of lying, venal hypocrites!
As a conservative, and NOT a Republican, I agree with most of what you said. Although I believe America's ills are as much spiritual as they are monetary and political. Don't forget Clinton and his trade policies that are now bankrupting the middle class. You cannot blame it all on Reagan. Clinton is just as responsible, and, in fact, more responsible for the financial meltdown due to his signature allowing it.
DeleteDoes anyone think Sussman looks like a chimpanzee? And please, you're not a sound effects guys. Why do weird sounds come out of his mouth?
