Understandably, Robert, Bob, Fitz, Rudy, Giggles, Fitzgerald is universally hated by a vast majority of the Bay Area's sports fans, mostly, Warriors' followers, who often, through Internet message boards and links, despise the PBP guy, whose act of smarminess and arrogance reek solid. There's no getting around the fact that Fitz will never ever have to worry about biting the hand that feeds him.
I myself, can't stand the guy. On radio, he comes off as an arrogant, cocky, nebbish shill for the Warriors, (among others)--his KNBR show with co-host, Rod Brooks, is a daily dose of two prima donnas who are never wrong and whose insipidness and less-than-flattering back and forth with the few callers dumb enough to rock their boat, often get ridiculed and belittled so profusely, you often feel sorry for them. Seriously.
Speaking of seriously...and get this? As bad as Fitz is on radio, I actually think he does a pretty good job on cable as the prime Comcast Warriors broadcast guy, paired with the cool color analyst, Jim Barnett. It's not spectacular, not even close to the late greats, Chick Hearn or Bill King, (by a long shot), but at least Fitzgerald is knowledgeable, knows his stuff, and can conduct a fairly professional, fluid, informed, less shilly broadcast. His cable act is in direct contrast to his radio show where the know-it-all Fitz is not that evident on Warriors' broadcasts.
Too bad.

I don't even listen to KNBR anymore. Haven't for years, except to occasionally make sure the little boys are active in the 9-noon; the arrogant ones are still three noon-3; and the Pizza boy and dough roller are still in the afternoon. Talk about boring radio. I have Sirius Satellite and I really enjoy the NFL channel. I'd prefer local, but KNBR sucks, and the Kaiser ads turned me off from the FM station, which I may give a try again now that the witch voice is supposed to be off the Kaiser ads.
ReplyDeleteIt's funny when I hear a lot of people rip on Fitz because he's apparently so arrogant and annoying. I don't get that impression, at least on the tv side. Seems knowledgeable as I would expect for that position. And he and Barnett seem like a decent pair considering the awful team they announce for. Can't speak for the radio side though because I didn't know radio still existed.
ReplyDeleteI agree he's different on TV, not better. He's still annoying. I've stopped listening to his call and figured out how to sync up Tim Roye's radio broadcast. It's much more informative and entertaining.
ReplyDelete@ 2:01....that little fat man is a disgrace. FatFuckFitz and his stringbean side kick RodSmokerBrooks are unlistenable...
ReplyDeleterich....don't drink and blog....
ReplyDeletefitz is horrible on tv....blames injuries, blames refs, blames the western conference....we get the league pass so we can hear the other team's broadcast
i agree with everything you said about fatttyfizgerald, except that he is not that bad on tv..he is horrible, always making excuses to why the wariiors are down by 20 points at halftime..and him and wannabee Shaft Brooks on knbr, is by far and away the worst radio show around No Warrior talk allowed unless your praising how great the team looks, and if you disagree with them on any topic they just dismiss you and disrespect the callers...simply the worst sports personality in the bay area...please no more rudy, giggles, fattyfizgerald!!!
ReplyDeleteFitz sucks on radio and is horrific on TV, Papa was so much better on the radio for Warrior games.Such a homer, how does a man with such little talent get the Warrior job is beyond me.
ReplyDeleteTwo days ago I accidentally turned on shitz and brooks, fitz was in full fake scream about some stupid bullshit, and I immediately changed the station, the warriors must pay big money to put this jackwad on,
ReplyDeleteI don't get the arrogant vibe from Fitz but the only good thing about their weekly football picks was smokin hot sara.
ReplyDeleteDo some Googling about why Fitz does GSW's play by play.
ReplyDeleteKNBR gave Fitz some package ultimatium when he did KNBR show at other times.
He THREW Papa under the Bus.
You never see Fitz and Papa ever in the same room do you?
Fitz stabbed Papa in the chest, the back, the head, the spleen and US in the heart.
Foster City Bobby. Serra Highs Special Male Cheerleader; Never even played TBALL in Foster Shitty; Kissed BLamars BeeHind all through school.
The 1984-85 Alumni dont even acknowledge Little Bobby Touch Down Jesus Chicago Whitesox Lover Fitzgerald.
Daddy was mayor of FC. End of Story. Picture Fitz in a TuTu in front of the Sarah Student Body and you see what his real desires are.
Brooks is pathetic. On with Kevin Lynch today.
Brooks = everything grammatically is Dis and Dat, the dude cannot even enunciate properly choosing instead to propagate his Brooks Ebonics. Somewhere Ward Connerly is grimacing.
Fitz is aweful. He doesn't know if the basketball is stuffed or filled with air. He consistanly wines about the refs, injuries, etc. His constant reading of stats shows he hasn't any basketball background other than being on a 4th grade CYO team, if that. When will the new ownership realize this guy is.....quoting Bill Walton "hooorible"
ReplyDeleteThe execrable Fitzgerald was hired by the clueless previous owner and should have been terminated when the new regime took control.
ReplyDeleteDespised by even his own co-workers,as Dibley has revealed a few times on THEGAME its obvious that to live with himself as a Warrior company spy, shill,,and stooge, he has decided that he will take the position that he TRULY beleives the Warriors are never wrong, that its the fault of things like- gremlins, and injuries that have prevented the team from 21 straight World Titles. He's a self induced Stockholm syndrome.
ReplyDeleteIts the only way Bob can look in the mirror without leaping out the closest window.
Since Bob back stab Papa 18 years ago. The Warriors have made the playoffs one time. I rest my case
ReplyDeleteYes, it does seem appropriate that the Warriors have sucked for the better part of 20 years since Fitz and his agent got then Warriors' counsel
ReplyDeleteRobin Baggett, (who was Chris Cohan's hatchet man of the day in 1997) to jettison Papa and bring
aboard Bobby Fitz.
Give credit to Tony Salvadore, the former KNBR GM for helping facilitate this move as he pushed
hard to get Fitz as the PBP guy on KNBR before
the TV gig was offered. And Papa, who should have known better, actually helped get Fitz in the door on the radio (Fitz was filling in occasionally for Greg when Greg was still doing the radio calls back in the early 1990s.
Fitz could have told Papa that the Warriors were going to offer him the job, but the Warriors told Fitz that if he did, the deal was off the table. So Cohan's cronies (Baggett and company) were just as culpable for Papa's demise and Bobby Fitz's rise.
Watching the Warrior game now, it's on mute, can't handle shitz.
ReplyDeleteThat is why Tony Salvadore is gone. Papa did not kiss his and Garys ASS!
ReplyDeleteYou have to remember that back in the early 1990s, Gary Radnich was the 'toast of the town,' at a then well known and respected TV station (before it was bought by the TV company from hell), and had just started working at KNBR as a mid day talk show host. At the same time, Pete Franklin was hired as KNBR went all-sports in 1992. Up until that time they still had a news department, and general talk shows like Peter B
ReplyDeleteCollins,
Salvadore loved Radnich, and he also liked Bobby Fitz, until Fitz refused to give up some of his TV work with the Warriors to help out in the mornings on KNBR. That's why Fitz was off the talk show lineup and not working for KNBR from 2000 until 2006. Then in 2006, Fitz and Rod Brooks (who had been working on 'the Ticket' now known at KNBR 1050)
took over the mid day slot.
After Frank Dill left KNBR in 1997, that morning show became a black hole with numerous hosts including Gary and KTVU host Steve McPartland (among others) until Salvadore finally made the right move and gave the morning show to 'Murph and Mack.'
This pinhead is a prime example of how America works. It's all about "politics" and he played it very well. Ass kissing, backstabbing, drop some names, etc. There's been one constant in ALL of his travails: NONE OF HIS PEERS OR COLLEAGUES LIKE HIM. But he survives because he constantly sharpens his political skills. That's the problem with America -- more time spent on bettering themselves (in the wrong way -- not by work skills, but by suck-up skills). We were taught in school that hard work will make you a success. What you weren't taught was that the harder you sucked up to someone, the better you were going to be. Where's my satellite radio?
ReplyDeleteI just don't understand why he has his job under the new ownership, the only reason I can think of , he is a infomercial for the Warriors on the blowhole leader. Fitz or the dough boy, just give me the shitz.
ReplyDeleteAmen to you 9:28! That's truly what much of America is all about..(unfortunately.) Too many businesses value this kind of crap, rather than hard work and creativity.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, they never teach any classes in college that have to do with
'snappy-patter' (or verbal puke as I like to call it), achmoozing (sucking up to higher ups by engaging in empty chatter), or learning to
'read the room' (as Gary likes to call it!)
to figure out who you can fool and who you need to suck up to.
The sad thing is that some very talented, capable people who have their hearts in the right places, are left stranded by the wayside, while undeserving, smarmy, ass-kissers who have a modicum of talent and know which individuals they can step over, sometimes make it to high places.
This has been going on for years in many countries, but it's gotten especially loathsome in the good old U S of A in recent years. Yet another reason why this country is rapidly sliding down from it's once lofty perch and is filling up the toilet bowl with unmentionable
crap.
Sometimes arrogance can be entertaining (a la Ray Ratto), but with Fitzgerald, it comes across as strictly awkward and uncomfortable. Fitz appears to have a massive inferiority complex, and it only gets magnified by all of the criticism that, justifiably, gets tossed at him. The more people hate him, the more condescending he becomes. Really, its just an awful three hours of radio. Brooks is too timid to challenge him. He comes across as nothing more than a yes man. And the sad thing is, before Fitz went to work for the warriors, I actually thought he was pretty good on the radio, especially back when he was the latter half of the "King and the Kid" show.
ReplyDeleteWhen Fiz is solo on the nibber, he's actually good. Dump Brooks, never have heard anyone jump to
ReplyDelete"urban" cadence like he does.
Show should be called Bob Rod.
