So, You Really Want to let 'Em Know you're Angry? Occupy KGO Radio Rally Thursday Dec 15 @ 11: 30 AM

Rumors are hot and heavy about an Occupy KGO Rally. I've heard the idea of listeners banding about to show KGO and Cumulus just how pissed off they really are--you are mad as hell and don't want to take it anymore? MAD AS HELL, RIGHT? They not only fired your favorite hosts--they fired you, THE LISTENERS.

OK, HERE'S THE DATE: THURSDAY DEC. 15--OUTSIDE KGO RADIO--900 FRONT ST. SAN FRANCISCO--11: 30 AM.

BRING: SIGNS! THOSE WHO WANT TO SPEAK WILL HAVE A FORUM TO DO SO. LET THE STOOGES KNOW YOU WON'T BACK DOWN

THE DATE: Keep in mind the date selected happens to be Ronn Owens return from vacation. I have been told by a few of you, some of the hosts, that you were most unimpressed with Ronn's comments about the December 1 massacre.

THEN COME OUT AND LET HIM, KGO, AND CUMULUS KNOW HOW YOU FEEL.

  1. Why don't they make it at time us working people from out of town can attend?

    Thanks for the page Rich!

  2. This is what we were waiting for, the question is, will Owens be commenting on this rally while he's on the air?

Hopefully Gene, and John, and Ray will be there too!

  3. Actually, KSCO is a pretty cool station. I enjoyed Bill Wattenburg this noon.

  4. Nice idea Rich...but do you think the 'Dickhead' Brothers will really care? They're too busy jetting back to Atlanta in their Armani suits, perusing their fattened stock portfolios, congratulating themselves on saving their shareholders more money, smelling their own farts, and getting ready to be sucked up to by their toadying employees back in 'Hotlanta.'

The sad thing is that the survivors at KGO will now have to work much harder and be constantly looking over their shoulders. Many are anxiety ridden that any day more of the Cumulus henchmen
and henchwomen will be calling them into a conference room for a quick termination. They'll force them in humiliating fashion to empty their personal belongings into boxes and then frog-march them out of the building.

After the Dickheads took over KNBR, they not only fired a several dozen employees in three or four separate waves, but they turned the atmosphere of that once somewhat pleasant station into a toxic wasteland.

So raise your voices if you wish, but don't expect the Dickheads to pay any attention. They're laughing all the way to the bank because they know that the FCC is toothless, and that the U.S. Government and majority of the American public have a lot more pressing concerns these days!

  5. Seriously. The 25-55 demographic is at work (or they're unemployed with no disposable income). The people who are going to come out to this are the retired dinosaurs who keep bragging about listening on their clock radio since Ira Blue was on. You should try to find a time (after work or on a weekend) where younger and employed folks could come out.

  6. LOL so far after the fact I bet you 25 people show up and half of them are the hosts that got canned. So far after the fact and so far in the rear view mirror.

    Good luck with that.

I wonder if KGO will talk about it in the news?

  7. 7:52 PM

im not 55, but i listened to ira blue...AS A KID

thats right...kids will listen to talk radio if entertaining and informative

so please, stop with the idiotic generalizations

and unless thousands show up for the rally, it will be worthless

    then there is this

    http://www.allaccess.com/net-news/archive/story/99944/three-congressional-democrats-call-on-fcc-to-exami

only prob is, the dems in congress have little to no power and the fcc can tell them to stuff it

while the dems were in power, hearings should have been held

    too little...too late

  9. I'd go if I wasn't out of the area that day.

However, it has to be on a weekday in order to get noticed by the media. But then again, KGO Radio won't cover it no matter when it's held.

  10. How can we get Michael Moore and/or Keith Olbermann to help out on this? Does anyone know how to reach either of them?

    ReplyDelete
  11. Ronn Ownes could care less.
After all he has that lucrative contract.
Who the hell cares about his former co-workers?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Just remember this is about KGO's parent company, not local management or it's employees.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Anyone want to bet that Owens will compare the demonstrators at 900 Front Strret with the Ocuupy SF demonstrators?

Rich, what do you t think of the statement posted bt Ronn in response to the protests against KGO and its advertisers?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Be sure to send out press releases of this to the other news organizations. Imagine KCBS showing up to cover the event. Maybe KSCO as well.

Oh, and for those of you who can't go because of work, you can tweet your outrage on the way to Starbucks or something. #toolazytogiveadamn

  15. Here ya go, Dickhead Brothers. Come in here to our town and blow up the frickin' Golden Gate Bridge, and think no one would take you on? Ahhhahahahahhah!

    It's on, people!

Three Congressional Democrats Call On FCC To Examine Consolidation's Effect On Local News
    December 7, 2011 at 4:45 AM (PT)

Three Congressional Democrats sent a letter to the FCC's Chairman JULIUS GENACHOWSKI WEDNESDAY (12/6) calling for the Commission to examine the impact of newsroom mergers and other media consolidation on diversity and localism in the media.

The letter by MIKE DOYLE (D-PA), ANNA ESHOO (D-CA), and JAY INSLEE (D-WA), filed as part of the quadrennial ownership rules review docket, praised the cross-ownership prohibition as "ensur(ing) competition in news gathering" and asserted that "protecting localism is a critical and longstanding goal of the (FCC's) media ownership rules.  However, today's media marketplace reflects a troubling decline in the level of local journalism," citing an FCC-commission study that claimed the Internet has not expanded the number of local news outlets.  The letter also urged the Commission to examine the effect of newsroom consolidation between separately-owned stations on jobs, diversity, and localism.

  16. I'll be there, unfortunately I doubt anyone will care.

  17. I'm glad KGO is going for "short burst" listeners. It's hard to listen to the current programming for longer than 10 minutes. The news hosts sound like they are learning the news as they are reading it, and are amused by it. Give us the Metro news readers who at least act professional.

I have no doubt that the "more news" thing is a place-holder. There is no flow, no structure. Some news stories are introduced and dismissed with so little actual "information" you think they are teasing it, but no - that's it.

You wonder what the point was. It's like reading a newspaper with various news spread among various sections, a sports story here, a hollywood story there, a national story, a local story...

  18. get over it ,thinks change that's called moving forward,

  19. Re: Ratings. Does the length of listening time count, for example the "short burst" of the KCBS and now KGO, listening for 20 mins only, count differently as compared to listening to a station for 2 hours?
Like the million+ hits that this blog has received, I'm guessing 95% of those are folks checking throughout the day for a new post etc. In and out in a few seconds, but it counts.

  20. Myself and my nine year old will be there. That's her birthday too!!!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Folks should be sure to mention this on their local Patch also. I'll stick it up on the Walnut Creek Patch this morning. Lots of East Bay folks are pissed off too!

  22. I know this KGO thing is dominant..but its sad that the little boy shot during the rap video is said not going to make it..and the reaction from local media is tepid. Yes,his mother doesn't speak well, and she's fat too..the lack of emotion from anchors just stands out to the comparison of when young caucasian kids..Just a black and white contrast.

  23. The news is neither presented or packaged well. The inflection, pacing, & delivery is weak.
KGO had a great rep for news years ago, but in the last decade or so has really lagged behind stylistically, as well as substance. The packages are often disjointed,& the sounders are way out of date. Paul Hosley obviously is in over his head. I've already heard some sponsor inspired "news features" such as Amici's expansion into China. KCBS will eat KGO for breakfast.

    ReplyDelete
  24. To Anonymous 7:26 am -- then why are you reading this? Your generalizations and poor attitude are useless.
I would love to attend, but have to work on the Peninsula.
I don't expect this to change anyone's mind. However, voicing our concerns is appropriate. Sitting back doing nothing is not.

  25. AGAIN PEOPLE...LOOK HOW THE USEFUL IDIOTS ARE BEING USED BY THE RICH HOSTS TO FILL THEIR POCKETS...IF YOU WISH FOR PRAVDA CONTROLLED NEWS...GO TO CHINA OR D.C.

THESE HOSTS AVERAGE OVER 350K A YEAR

  26. This is the "straw that broke my back"! Enough already I'll be there. Fed up in Concord.

  27. Cool. Would love to go to rally and am seriously thinking of taking a day off (I need it!) to do this. I hope it gets coverage by the local media (who cares if KGO notices). I have STOPPED listening to KGO and tune into KCBS until I find out where the former hosts have gone. Does anyone know besides the Monterey station? Please, Rich, keep up the excellent reporting and keep us faithful listeners updated on their whereabouts, if you know. Thanks! I hope to attend rally.

  28. I will be there with my two kids. Because they can't stand how irritable I am without MY KGO!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  29. You all should go. It's your right and I agree. And then afterwards, go support the Occupy Movement, OK? Don't just go down to get your favorite hosts their jobs back, go down to get EVERYONE their jobs back, too. Occupy KGO should move over to Occupy SF after the rally. Be part of the solution. Also, has anyone thought about an internet stream, live, local, 24/7 of San Francisco programming? You could get it on CCrane Radios. On smart phones, computers, even in cars with internet radios and Apps. See if any of the hosts will sign on. Only takes a small studio, Gene or John has room at home. Maybe one of those that are upset could spring for space. Add up Gene, Gil, John and Ray, that should be no more than $500-$750k for the year with benefits. So if 10,000 of you are upset, each give $75 to the fund. You could collect it at the rally. OR, there's an FM in bankruptcy in San Francisco, Bonneville's station, it's only $22 million. It's small, but if enough people rally support and raise the money then why not? Occupy and then motivate!

  30. Karel - you're a donkey's rear end. It's amazing just how STUPID you really are - as in dumb and lacking intelligence. You are very self centered, and believe everything is all about you. I heard your show a few times, then quickly got tired of your ranting and raving about things you knew nothing about. So long, sucka'

    ReplyDelete
  31. Do they have the proper permits? I will pay for some online advertising if they do...

    ReplyDelete
  32. The few times I have listened the past week has been painful. I even listened to Karel, who used the word bowel three times in 1.5 minutes (his poor sense of potty humor).

Humm... age discrimination?? Weren't most of those let go in their late 60s?

    ReplyDelete
  33. @4:04

If that is really Karel, He has no idea, what he is talking about.
I expected that talentless entity to lose his position soon.

He is a waste of bandwidth and oxygen.

    ReplyDelete
  34. @ the end, the listener base screwed up. They should have seen it coming, many months ago. They should have started to bitch about it, quite early. I saw it coming. (%)

    ReplyDelete
  35. Karel has always wanted to sound like a gay man who is black but sadly he is just an old white queen who constantly talks about the death of his partner and the life of his animals.

    Is that talk radio?

    ReplyDelete
  36. I plan on being there. And I do work, but I just so happened to have the day off before all this happened. I'm just worried that my boss may see me there and it may cause a problem. (He's a very religious conservative and thinks liberals cause most of the problems in the world.) Me, I'm just middle of the road who wants to hear different points of view.

    ReplyDelete
  37. whether it really is karel or not, attack the message not the messenger.

    ReplyDelete
  38. We listened to this station everyday and all night. There is'nt another station like it. Bring it Back!! A lot of unhappy people. The only one I have to complain about is God Talk 3 hrs is way to long. It's boring!! I'm religous but that is to much.

  39. "I have sworn upon the altar of god, eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man." Thomas Jefferson...today cumulus is the tyrant. cumulus has seized control of our freedom of speech. cumulus has shut down our university of public discourse on the public airwaves. occupy kgo for yourself. occupy kgo for the public interest. occupy KGO and bring back our hosts
