KTVU's underrated weather guesser, Steve Paulson

Steve Paulson

I like KTVU's morning weather guesser, Steve Paulson.

He's one of the reasons I like "Mornings on Two" and have been meaning to credit the Chico native.

Paulson comes across as a likable guy. And it helps that he knows his stuff too. An avid meteorologist, he has garnered a lot of respect and admiration from local weather people, among them, Mike Pechner.

"He does his own forecast, doesn't  rely on the weather service who he challenges many times on the air about temperature forecasts and is almost always right.  No hype, straight forward and with lots of easy explanations of the weather, " Pechner told me.

Sounds about right.

  1. Solid. A professionals' professional. No pizzazz, no b.s., no frills. Just the facts (and forecasts) ma'am. And I like it that way.

  2. Used to watch him on Ch 36 with Jan Hutchins. Always a first class weather guy, but those were the days before he pumped all that iron and became huge. Was an average sort of body then.

  3. I've liked Paulson on Mornings on 2 for a long time. 100% pro, good attitude, and his personal work comes through. You can tell the guy knows his stuff.

    Nice post, Rich.

  4. Real stand up guy...Only problem I have "ever" had with him is when it was annouced that rhe 49ers were moving to Santa Clara, and Steve said, "well there's better weather down there." Bleh, so what...

  6. Paulson (in my opinion) ranks in the top 3 of the morning meteorologists when you consider forecast accuracy and delivery. The other two in that top group are Mike Nicco and Lawrence Karnow. I will echo 543PM and 1004PM's observations that sometimes it seems like he wants to break out into a comedy routine. The comedy seems like 'Letterman as a weatherman' (and some of you may actually remember that Letterman was a weatherman) but it doesn't seem to sink an otherwise solid weather segment.
