KGO's Owens is pissed about the BART Protesters and wants you to know it; How Cecilia Vega got ABC News gig; Monday pulse

KGO Radio's "Mr Voice of Reason", Ronn Owens has apparently never heard of civil disobedience. Owens chastised the BART protesters, (another series of demonstrations is planned tonight during the height of the rush hour) for their weekly disrupt-ta-thon and asked for the cops to start arresting the foes en mass.

I'm not a supporter of the Anonymous folks. By and large, I think they're just a part of the rent-a-mob crowd that takes advantage of creepy things and wants to inconvenience the hell out of working people just trying to get back to their home from work.

But there's this messy little thing called the first amendment. And yes, civil disobedience, which was and is a tactic even if mostly all of all these "anarchists", (as Owens and a few of his callers called them), are causing a lot of distress. There's a reason it's called "civil" disobedience.

There's an irony here: perhaps if a good many of the Bay Area media folks were to limit the coverage of the mob, there would be a whole less lot of these peeps. Much of their histrionics are based on counting on the usual throngs of TV people, cameras, mikes, and the like. And usually, (surprise!) the media folk outnumber the protesters. Get the picture?

*How did Cecilia Vega march from an $80K a-year reporter to get to ABC News? An insider at the local O and O told me a  friend of Diane Sawyer was in town and saw Vega on KGO-TV and was impressed. She told Sawyer and Sawyer thought the same. Ergo, Vega, who is brainy and beautiful, tall too, (6 ft. tall) was offered a six-figure deal from the alphabet network. It didn't hurt, either, that Vega's contract was up and SF wasn't biting, but NY was.

  1. It wasn't "civil" disobedience when they prevented fellow citizens from being able to commute. It wasn't "civil" disobedience when the hammers were busted out and applied to gates and a flower stand.

These "protesters" have nothing to do with the real civil disobedience that was done in the early and mid 1960s in the fight for REAL civil rights. Not being able to use your cellphone on BART is not disrupting one's civil rights, either. If the BART police were stifling conversations between people on the trains/cars, or were confiscating reading material, that would be a real problem. Cutting off cell phone reception during the commute isn't an infringement on one's civil rights at all. And for many fellow passengers, frankly, it's a relief!

  2. I'm not surprised Diane Sawyer is out checking out the young female reporters. Its been rumored she has had a certain persuasian admiration. It includes being wooed by Oprah with a gift of a kind of dianmond ring you give a somebody you date.
Also,I myself saw her become aroused when interviewing Kate Hudson..it was pointy blouse visual. And it wasnt like that the rest of the show. Thats not a rumor..I saw it.
    Just for your Info.

  3. When Mohandas K. Gandhi gave his full support and backing to the use of civil disobedience, he and his supporters didn't hide behind a cloak name like "Anonymous". They put their names and faces out front, and they owned up, personally, to any consequences deriving from their actions. And the free speech provisions in the First Amendment don't guarantee the people in "Anonymous" a right to perpetually disrupt other citizens' lives. They have a right to peacefully protest, and peacefully assemble in an orderly, lawful way. The people in "Anonymous" just want to disrupt working people's lives to showcase their point of view, with the implication that theirs is the only "proper" point of view. Self-righteous little snob-ass slackers ....

I thought it sounded hypocritical as well....but he does need to "chum" the broadcast waters to get people talking. What else is going on today that merits discussion?

  5. Cecilia Vega is a star-in-the-making. There was no way she was going to stick around some minor-league local outfit when the national networks came calling, and there no way she was wasn't going to be discovered because she's too good. I look forward to seeing her on news reports coast to coast.

  6. 80k for a reporter at KGO, that is all? Wow. If that is true, and I am not sure it really is, I wonder what somebody at KRON makes? Say Stanely Roberts (although I do not classify him as a reporter) or Dan Kerman? Same goes for others, Cheryl Hurd, Eric Rassmussen (Mr. Media's favorite), Vic Lee. I would think Vic Lee demands and deserves top tier pay. Where did you get the 80k salary? What is your source or is that the average salary for a tv news reporter here?

  7. Let these protesters have their fun for an hour.
Then announce "if you don't disperse in ten minutes, you will be incarcerated in the county jail for five days, unless you pay a $500 fine."
    Five minutes later, another warning.
Five minutes later, "this is your third and final warning."

Those who remain are choosing to be arrested, sleeping behind bars at night and pulling weeds or cleaning up graffiti by day.

    Enough is enough.

  8. Hey MR. Mohandis lecturer- It's also said that if the Indians had laid down on the tracks in Nazi Germany-the Nazis would have crushed them under their wheels. Only because the British were civilized people's did that work.
Anonymous is good in a society where you can be hunted down so easily for your views-as truthful as they are doesn't matter to the hunters aka BART or Goverment or just right wing zealots.
I post things here that shock people...nobody though has proven me wrong. They dont agree, but that doesnt prove me wrong at all.

  10. 12:29 is 100% spot on correct.

12:37 is extremely deluded. Or on some really, really heavy drugs.

  11. 80K isn't even the AFTRA minimum for the Bay Area. Since all KGO reporters are members of the union, I'm sure she didn't make 80K.

    ReplyDelete
  12. 1:03= right wing zealot. I called it. Even if I was on heaviest drugs, wouldnt make me wrong.

Never trust somebody who says "Spot on". Or, says "That's awful white of you, my man".

  13. Like what 10:07 & 12:29 said. What planet is 10:05 from? Most of the rest of us have heard of Sawyer's significant other - one of the greatest film directors ever in her husband Mike Nichols. What a pathetic rumor! Let Diane be her friendly self for crying out loud! What's wrong with professional affection?

    ReplyDelete
  14. That 80K is why kgo wasn't biting. Eventually all stations will do what kron does and use other staff sitting around to do weather and whatever else, bump their hourly wage up a couple bucks and hope aftra doesn't notice. But it wouldn't be surprising if kron manages to outsleaze everybody in the practice.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Yeah, she had so much affection she had to finish the interview with arms crossed over her chest,as she was "showing". Since when does being married mean a sexy woman isn't hot for others?
Like I said,no "reaction" or arm crossing when she did the rest of the show with Charlie Gibson!
Not judging, just part of human sexuality, to admire.

  16. Vega was getting only 80k? 90% of all Bay Area Civil Service workers make more than that.

  17. 1:46, I love how you can extrapolate my voting record and political views based on my usage of the term "spot on". You're quite the linguist there.

Here's a clue, go figure out what zealot really means, and then do some compare and contrast with all your "anonymous" friends. Blinkered, "useful idiot"...

    ReplyDelete
  18. Hey 1:46, here's a bit of right wing zealotry for you, you "Rik" from the Young Ones clone....

All of you petty pretend "anarchists" should go listen to two songs by Crass. "Big A little a", and "Bloody Revolutions". The latter being very relevant to this latest spoiled brat tantrum by Anonymous.

I'd say go read "Animal Farm" by George Orwell, but your ADHD brain likely wouldn't be able to persevere. As the Crass songs are more than two minutes, and don't use techno crap or rap as the background, you'll likely tune out as well, but give 'e a try. Listen closely to the words. And then go and be the anarchist you think you are.

Your friendly "right wing zealot". Arse...

    ReplyDelete
  19. Here, 1:46, I'll help you out, you toad.

excerpt from Big A little a:

Be exactly who you want to be, do what you want to do
I am he and she is she but you're the only you
No one else has got your eyes, can see the things you see
It's up to you to change your life and my life's up to me
The problems that you suffer from are problems that you make
The shit we have to climb through is the shit we choose to take
If you don't like the life you live, change it now it's yours
Nothing has effects if you don't recognise the cause
If the programme's not the one you want, get up, turn off the set
It's only you that can decide what life you're gonna get
If you don't like religion you can be the antichrist
If your tired of politics you can be an anarchist
But no one ever changed the church by pulling down a steeple
And you'll never change the system by bombing number ten
Systems just aren't made of bricks they're mostly made of people
You may send them into hiding, but they'll be back again
If you don't like the rules they make, refuse to play their game
If you don't want to be a number, don't give them your name
If you don't want to be caught out, refuse to hear their question
Silence is a virtue, use it for your own protection
They'll try to make you play their game, refuse to show your face
If you don't want to be beaten down, refuse to join their race
Be exactly who you want to be, do what you want to do
I am he and she is she but you're they only you

    Important part:

If you don't like religion you can be the antichrist
If your tired of politics you can be an anarchist
But no one ever changed the church by pulling down a steeple
And you'll never change the system by bombing number ten
Systems just aren't made of bricks they're mostly made of people
You may send them into hiding, but they'll be back again

  20. A little more help for 1:46. From Crass's "Bloody Revolutions:

You talk about your revolution, well, that's fine
But what are you going to be doing come the time?
Are you going to be the big man with the tommy-gun?
Will you talk of freedom when the blood begins to run?
Well, freedom has no value if violence is the price
Don't want your revolution, I want anarchy and peace

You talk of overthrowing power with violence as your tool
You speak of liberation and when the people rule
Well ain't it people rule right now, what difference would there be?
Just another set of bigots with their rifle-sights on me

But what about those people who don't want your new restrictions?
Those that disagree with you and have their own convictions?
You say they've got it wrong because they don't agree with you
So when the revolution comes you'll have to run them through
You say that revolution will bring freedom for us all
Well freedom just ain't freedom when your back's against the wall

You talk of overthrowing power with violence as your tool
You speak of liberation and when the people rule
Well ain't it people rule right now, what difference would there be?
Just another set of bigots with their rifle-sights on me

Will you indoctrinate the masses to serve your new regime?
And simply do away with those whose views are too extreme?
Transportation details could be left to British rail
Where Zyklon B succeeded, North Sea Gas will fail
It's just the same old story of man destroying man
We've got to look for other answers to the problems of this land

The "anarchy" you all are defending is not what Crass speaks of. They wrote/sang/shouted about "personal anarchy", which to me meant thinking for oneself, and not expecting any great "revolution" to change things on the macro level. And frankly, I got that they were discouraging the sort of "revolutionary" behavior you so stridently espouse.

But then, what would you expect from a "right wing zealot"?

  24. I believe what 10:37 was saying was in reference to what 9:45 was saying. In all honesty, 8:32 is right on the money, as well as 3:31, 3:45 and 4:15. I remember a few days back 1:32 was criticizing 5:45, and 6:12 stepped in. I hope this post hits at 5:32 before the post of 5:31 and of course, 5:29.

  25. I'm Anonymous. Does that make me a protestor?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Sometimes RWZealot, The left has to break a window to get the notice of the rich and powerful. Shutting down BART in protest will cause change, you or others, admit it or or not.
Fear of change is the rich and powerfuls only fear. And changing BARTS idea of its power is the young peoples just cause.

  27. Yes, 3:57, 1:46, etc. A republican conservative fascist with extensive knowledge of relatively obscure English (and other) punk from the late 70s and early 80s. That's me! (if you're whacked out on too much E or Red Bull or whatever you saggy panted jerkoffs do for brain damage these days)

Tell you what, how about you light up some of the good stuff from Mendo, and just mellow out instead of all the "anarchist" bullshit, OK? That's what you might be doing anyhow 10 years from now, if you don't get your arse in jail for terrorism or other stuff. But hey, don't listen to me, some ol' Republican Fascist Zealot. Go out and do what you enjoy doing so much—disrupting average people's lives, and destroying the infrastructure that their taxes (not Haliburton's profits) paid for. Ass...

  28. 1:46,
If REAL anarchy were to ever come here, the so called "anarchists" that comprise Anonymous would be among the first to be slaughtered. How ironic that they would need protection from the police.

  29. 336, out me, out me! I'm a pseudo-intellectual do-gooder who is going to save the world from itself by disrupting the commute to work. Believe me, it's a tough job but some one has to do it. As you I'm sure know, some pigs are more equal than others!

If you have any cute female friends, you an out me as a lesbian to them. See? I'm very tolerant!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Hey, 1:46, in your 12:37 post you said "Anonymous is good in a society where you can be hunted down so easily for your views"

So, do you mean that you and Anonymous are going to hunt me down because my views are different from yours? It seems like some of Anonymous have already done that with BART officials? Is that really "democracy", or "freedom"? I doubt you give monkey's arse about real Freedom.

  31. Ronn Owens reminds me of those Berkeley homeowners who came to town in the 60s, never left, and are bitching about the college students.

As for reporter pay in the Bay Area - it used to be a destination job. People would arrive and never leave (even if offered gigs in LA or NY). Now, I guess, not so much. Just another stop.

  32. Maybe Vega saw no chance for advancement, ABC7 which has only white primary anchors, just hired yet another blond. read about it on the blogs.

    ReplyDelete
  33. 6:05—if you get attention that way, you won't appreciate the response. You denote the people you're trying to get the attention of as "rich and powerful". How do you think they'll wield that power if their windows are broken? With flowers and rainbows? Or with truncheons and paddywagons? How would YOU react if someone came destroying your property.

Also, as was noted in another post, should real anarchy ensue, you and your kind will wish for law and order when all the gangstas and thugs beat the living crap out of wusses like you, and you won't be able to do anything to protect yourself against the automatic weaponry. Good luck with that!
