All the while securing the A's and
The AM 1550 is gone, having been formatted to Hindi music. So the Raiders are stuck at Live 105, a rock station that is devoid of sports except on Sunday.
I'm not certain, but I can bet there are several option years and out clauses in the Raiders, (Compass Sports) deal with CBS.
Moreover, 95.7, with its talk-show format would have been an ideal format for the Raiders, (and station alike) to promote one another in all its platforms. In fact, one of the biggest drawing boards for a Raiders relationship with The Game would have been its shows. Isn't it strange and embarrassing that the Raiders' coach, Hue Jackson, appears weekly on the 49ers flagship station? Bizarre.
Again, in hindsight, this arrangement would have been a win-win for both the Raiders and The Game. It could yet happen, (next year), because it gives both outlets a no-lose entity.
It'll be interesting to see future ratings for the The Game now that the A's season is winding down and only the Sharks to call their flagship station.
Those voluminous ads by The Game during the 49ers and Raiders TV contests would have carried a lot more weight if the FM sports den had an NFL team to call home.

I found it the height of horrible sports broadcasting, that 105 will not broadcast a halftime show. Last night's half entertainmnet was all commercials! and a generic voice recap of scoring with snips of Papa'a calling just a single TD and Seabasses all time tying record FG.
ReplyDeleteThe Raiders and Amy Trask dropped the ball if that's their idea of running "Excellence".
I also do not like the changes the Raiders made to their broadcasts last year, especially when they "go to our L.A. studios". Start packing the bags Raider fans, Hollywood loves a sequel.
ReplyDeleteThe Raiders looked good last night (I know, Denver is a real bad team) and hopefully they will start to sell out their home games. Otherwise fans will have to listen on 105.3, or like they've been doing, just watch the 1:00 game and hope some Raider highlights get shown a few times. Regarding marketing, the lack of televised home games in their own back yard is what is hurting that organization, not the stadium or crazed fans who enjoy makeup.
ReplyDeleteMaybe there will be so few seats left at the blackout deadline that the team purchased the seats (from themselves) like the 49ers do.
The Game won't be the flagship for the Sharks after all. They're staying on 98.5 and 102.1.
ReplyDeleteIndeed, the Raiders stir up a lot of passion from both fans and haters alike. Hopefully next year they'll get together. I see good things coming with Jackson as a coach.
ReplyDeleteTo Anonymous @ 11:34AM...we MUST listen to 105.3 in case of blackout? I watch every home game on the internet. I hook up my laptop via HDMI to my flatscreen. It's not HDTV, but it is very watchable..and free.
ReplyDeleteThe pre and post game programs on Live 105 are actually very solid, interesting and move well. There are lots of features, the shows never slow down, and the hosts are all very professional. The production is also excellent.
ReplyDeleteThe shows out of LA that bookend the actual Raider broadcasts with Papa and Flores are only a half an hour and have just one studio host who is not local. They also do a quick halftime and short post game show as well.
The local shows on 105 FM are on for two hours pre game and they proceed the short network program, and for an hour and a half afterward (with callers) e hour after the game, again bookending the network broadcast.
If you're a Raider fan I'd highly recommend them as they contain a lot of info presented in a very thorough and entertaining fashion.
Well, if you are ever in the Sacramento area during a Raiders game you can always listen to these guys. KHTK 1140 AM.
ReplyDeleteAgree.
ReplyDeleteThat was a big misstep by Entercom not to court the Raiders.
Fix it next year guys. Set up 95.7 as a bona fide sports outlet.
Brand X needs some desperate competion here.
I don't know all the #s but I would think 49ers, Raiders, Giants, and probably Cal football are the ratings kings for sports in the Bay Area. If by chance they could have gotten the Raiders away from live105 it would have been huge and actually give people a reason to listen. I went online last night to listen to the Raiders pregame show.......and live 105 has no pre-game????? At least they don't stream it online, that's a disgrace! I don't mind The Game.......but I am really sick of their commercials bashing KNBR, don't tell me what's wrong with your competition tell me what's RIGHT about your station. It really gets old when they try to make fun of KNBR but they have nothing to really hang their hat on....
ReplyDeleteThey need to be on a powerful am radio station or fm ones that cover the entire bay area both fm stations you mention are very weak in radio coverage. 95.7 and 105.3 come in very poor in San Jose area
ReplyDeleteI think they backed off from pursuing the Raiders because, at least initially, they didn't want to cement themselves as a station catering only to fans of East Bay sports. Without the Raiders, they can still have their Raider Fridays AND 49ers Monday. Fact is, The Game is smart by catering to 49ers and Giants fans. They know the market in that way.
ReplyDeleteHad they gotten the Raiders, and signed the excellent Rick Tittle, they would have come off an an East Bay alternative in much the same way the Ticket 1050 came on when they opened shop and carried the Raiders.
By staying away from the Raiders, who likely would not have allowed a "49er Monday", they remain open to a lot of things.
As for the ratings after baseball season, my guess is without A's games, ratings go up.
4:58 pm you take the cake for idiocy. Your analysis is hall of fame retarded, up is down, down is up.
ReplyDeleteWhat I love is this gem:
"By staying away from the Raiders, who likely would not have allowed a "49er Monday", they remain open to a lot of things" -Yes they do, Mr. Low Ratings-meet Mr. No Revenue.
OMG..WHAT A PATHETIC pre game show of the Raiders on "Compass media network" (probably one of those 10 richest guys you never heard of owns it)..NO PAPA,NO PLUNKETT OR FLORES...just generic voice, canned and delivered.
ReplyDeleteIt's like the team is beggars and asking for radio handouts to broadcasters.
WHAT Does Amy Trask do if she cant get this simple tradition right?
Al is 82 and sickly,what's Amy's excuse?
