First off, I listened for about ten minutes, (I swear), and then turned it off because I could have predicted that it would turn into a trainwreck, and from all indications, it IS and was. (I can only imagine this dreck is only going to get worse).
A little news: Tony Bruno was shown the door. He was making only $100 a show, which we in the biz used to call toilet money, (unless you're John Madden, who gets about $250K a year to schmooze with the KCBS folks).
Anyway, a few media wags texted me that it was god-awful. One guy, (Bruce) tried to out-talk the other, (Raddy), who was supposedly flustered and sounding mucho uncomfortable, particularly when he had to tell the audience that Bruno was sent packing to the nearest next city next to Santa Monica. (Maybe Bruno will end up on the FM station--they're good at picking up everyone else's leftovers).
Bottom line: Bruno will be better off. He's left the Titanic. Radnich? Maybe he's beginning to feel the heat. No more lunchtime with Tony Salvadore. Bob Agnew is gone. There's no ally in the building, except Flunkster dude and Rod Brooks.
I've said this a thousand times: What if KNBR didn't have the Giants and/or 49ers? They'd be about as crisp as a day-old bagel at Noah's. "Toast" is the operative word. Who'd have thunk that the "Morning Show" actually sounds respectable than the 9-Noon Gong Show.
And its going to get worse.
Where's the redneck, "P-Conn?" Maybe he was told to he had a new gig as the coffee boy. Wait. They already have that guy. Kate Scott? You should have held out for more money at KGO for the CAL games--wait a minute, KGO is about to be taken over by these schlums and their corporate dimbulbs, I forgot.
And, so, how's your day going?
If you want to play the "what if" game - what if you didn't have knbr, kron and kgo??? you'd have nothing to whine about....

ReplyDeleteWatching the trainwreck on comcast was some of the best stuff I've ever seen. Radnich was just getting his ass kicked by Bruce. It was just killing Gary to sit there and be Damon's call screener.

At 11:50 Radnich asked Scott "how she thought the new show was?"..the camera caught Scott already out the door with her bag...she just leaned back into the mike and said something like "fine". That's what Dibbs was doing near the end-split at 11:59...Kate is getting a earlier jump-lol.
ReplyDeleteThe meek,almost quiet Radnich today is nothing like the blowhard of a couple of years ago. He almost has a Zitoesque emotional vibes give off from the changes and loss of power.
Once again-that losing Dibs has had a huge impact of a domino effect..it unnerved the brass at KNBR. I think if they could go back in time,they would have given the little leprechaun (thanks Monte!) a raise and kept him.

ReplyDeleteThank goodness I've got Sirius radio so I don't have to listen to the dreck on KNBR! It's been close to 15 years and they've still never found an adequate replacement for Frank Dill in the morning. First, it was the awful McPartlin and now the wheezy and out-of-touch Radnich. You can tell that this move with D-Bruce is the first step in pushing Radnich out of the building. If he had any dignity, he would quit, but he probably needs the paycheck. (Even though he boasts that he doesn't.)

I'm trying to figure out (a) all the bitterness on your part (b) can you actually write thoughtful well-reasoned opinions/comments, or is your editorial policy simply one of coming up with derogatory nicknames and beating dead horses, and (c) are you really Perez Hilton, sans the the bubbles drawn around the mouths of celebrities. I'm no fan of Radnich, Barbieri, Fitzgerald, Brooks, etc., but I have to believe there's a better way to express that sentiment than writing like some pissed-off teenager in his parent's basement. I will also be surprised, frankly, if you allow this entire post to appear, despite your purported fearlessness.

Damon Bruce dominated the program this morning. From the start all the way down to his signoff at noon. D Bruce carried the show. Gary was only passive participant.

I can only imagine but since I have some intelligence I purposely did not, nor will I listen to this crap. KNBR is redneck radio which is why I'm puzzled they muted P-CONN, he fit in with their idiot demographic, perfectly!

ReplyDeleteI also listened for about 10 minutes. The most interesting part was when the show started and Radnich said 2 or 3 different times that he had not been forced to do the show with Bruce. He even said that if he did NOT want to do it he could’ve continued to go solo. I almost fell off my chair in laughter. I’m sure he was not asked. He was ordered to do it. I almost feel sorry for Radnich….almost! Hahahah!

ReplyDeleteRadnich and Damon are way too much personality for one show, anyway. This little experiment will be shorter than Zito's remaining time on the starting staff.
When Gary tried to correct Damon about Zito going to USC and not UCSB, Damon quickly retorted with the fact that Zito did go to UCSB before USC, Gary just shrugged and looked feable. Gary is now the new Pete Franklin of KNBR. Sad.

Bruno would actually work great with Dibley on FM. But you can be sure that Hammer threatened his 1050 evening slot and appeased him with a few extra bucks to do a few minutes of commentary.
ReplyDeleteIt beyond stupid how KNBR could end the Bruno segment, and even more ridiculous given the reason they floated: That the view of an "outsider" would disrupt the flow of local sports talk. How lame an explanation is that?
Lately, I found myself tuning in only to hear the 11 AM Bruno segment. Now I am free to watch my girlfriend Kristen Sze on her 11 AM newscast. BTW... does anyone know if Kristen is married? She wears no wedding ring on KGO.

Yeah, losing Dibley may have been the start of the slippery slope, but it seemed like Kate was fitting in well. I liked the way things had been going lately, but I don't know how long I'll keep listening. Well, at least I'm not the only one who thought it sounded awkward (at best).

ReplyDeleteIts still an awkward show..the blend is jarring. Radnich cut off one of Bruce's longtime callers and Bruce was upset at that. Just two huge ego's simultaneously might be too much. And whereas Radnich can put up with Bruce's ego better than Bruce can with Radnich's...I see now I was right Radnich wanted this more than Bruce. Radnich didn't see though losing Bruno or Pecon..careful what you wish for ,etc,...
And they pretty much admitted I was right-this show was put together fast..not planned weeks before as they first tried to bullshit it!

ReplyDeleteGary lost his show years ago.....then came the sound bombs and the chatter from the gallery...I will be posting some classic Cosell Radnich clips....that was an entertaining bit which I understand was blacklisted off the air...Bruno did make 100 a pop...he is a mega talent and a legend...I have pulled out my old Radnich shows...before the "guests" and the "helpers"....Gary's monologues were always informative and right on....now...that is over...

But he DID loudly browbeat an 80 year old Piano teacher who politely asked him to be quiet at his daughters recital. Frightening the elderley woman and the children.
