Tony Bruno suspended for one week; RL 415 Media Exclusive

Tony Bruno has been suspended for a week, beginning Monday night, for making inflammatory remarks on his Twitter account last week, according to a reliable broadcast source close to the situation.

Bruno, on local radio, (KNBR, 1050 7-10 PM), and whose show is syndicated over the Fox Sports Radio network referred to SF Giants pitcher, Ramon Ramirez, as an "illegal alien" on his Twitter page, (he has subsequently apologized) and called manager Bruce Bochy a "coward."

Bruno has been vilified by the local San Francisco Bay Area sports fans and Bochy called his remarks about Ramirez "racist." In response, Bruno said he regretted the "alien" remark, but stood by his stance about Bochy.

Bruno has worked for ESPN Radio, Sporting News Radio, and Fox Sports Radio. He has been on KNBR since 1992. He was recently let go from the "Gary Radnich Show" last week, but his national show still airs on KNBR 1050.

  1. Despite Raddy admitting the emails were 80% against Bruno, the calls into the show sounded like 90% pro Bruno. KNBR is so bigoted itself..ONLY because I had to go to Home Depot to replace a kitchen faucet was why I listened to Ralph and Tom on the car radio. Of course they said Bruno was wrong..but somehow they as the morning shows did, went after Felipe Alou.
Its beyond reason to blame Alou for what Krueger and the KNBR honchos thought at the time would be a blast-tease him about this culture, insult him about his people..and wouldnt you know it according to KNBR? That brain dead Caribbean piece of slop wouldn' accept good old Krueger's apology when Larry's job was on the line? How impolite of Felipe!
And Tom and Ralphy boy also wouldnt repeat what Krueger said..that they left out of the revision of history by KNBR.
Nope, not in Raddy or Brucy's or Tommys or Ralphys version is KNBR to blame for any part of it..it was all Felipes fault..and he even talked back to them ! what nerve!
    KNBR..just low,so low.

  2. Has any Hispanic group called for Tony Bruno’s suspension? All the outrage seems to be coming from white Giants fans and white industry people. Sure, what Tony said was dumb but let’s not blow this way out of proportion. I am speaking as an Hombre from Mexico. Let him serve the one week suspension and let this go man. Tony deserves another chance.

  3. Not sure if you heard, but Damon ripped you Rich during the Larry Krueger call in. He referred to your website not by name but by describing your asking for $12 a year.

  4. Funny how Rich isn't sharing the real story of today: How Jack Swanson ripped Rich a new one on LARadio.com

  5. Nothing about Bruno on Comcast at 5. They even had Hank Schulman who had posted today that he thought Bruno was a racist.
Maybe that kind of show-where anything meaty is ignored for fun and stats is why Papa is leaving.

You know Rich...the truth comes out here..and why Damon Bruce's only real rage was his rant about 415 media to open the show. You ruin KNBR's fantasy world of frat boys and Chicago guys who talk out of the sides of their mouths.
And why Damon reads 415 everyday,Radnich has every mention of him posted by interns to his desk.
    The truth hurts..them.

  6. Jack Swanson tool for Citadel Media broadcasting?..would have read it if I wanted to spend $3.95 a month. Not worth it to read a fat cat Radio exec like Swanson go after bloggers who aren't media puppets like he is.

And Damon and Jack..what part of Bruno's quote did Rich make up?..why not claim Rich set up Bruno..and he was also the shootest hiding in the bushes, that blur in the Zapruder film?
    Man,corporate mouths will spin anything...

  8. One last-for some bizarre reason Larry Kreuger was on the Rad/Bruce show this morning and gave a wholey one sided version of the Alou story. According to Larry,it was a simple slip of the tongue( again, not repeating the mean spirited insults and slurs he had said) and then painted himself as taking the high road for not answering questions if he was a bigot!..no, he played along as Radnich cried that Larry "Tried to apologize"...and they portrayed Felipe Alous as a kook for calling people like Krueger devils AFTER KNBR and Krueger thought it was funny to go after Felipes dignity and pride. They might as well have said "Felipe started it mom".
Krueger is still shifty,so is KNBR.

  9. I would pay 10 bucks to hear Radnich blurt out tomorrow "bye bye Bruno".

  10. If you notice..local writers arent saying a thing about Bruno's racist statement. Lowell Cohn, Monte Moore, all of the columnists on CSN...all of them quiet as they don't want to anger KNBR or Radnich.
Why sports "journalists" are shitty sell outs. The fans know, and we speak.

  11. Does Raddy still hang out around the POST - LARKIN area?

  12. Did anyone happen hear the promos today on the new FM sports station..."the Game?" Check it out..they were ripping KNBR Operations MGR Lee Hammer by saying: "The 'Chimp' (meaning Hammer) says no!" (remember those liners that KNBR uses from Kuiper when he says: "Lee Hammer says 'no.')
I mean...c'mon guys...granted KNBR is pretty pathetic these days, but what has this new FM brought to the bay area except a bunch of no-name out of market voices who sound like they should be working in Fresno or Salt Lake!

  13. So FOX suspends Bruno..and local writers and of course KNBR, either defend him OR they try to defend him by smearing Felipe Alou from years ago..tells you what thinking rules local media. I havent read what any latino sportswriters think...as the only ONE there is, is working for Comcast-lol..and he's not risking his job!

  14. I love Damon Bruce's ( And most local media) hatred of 415 media..it's the truth that gets them every time.

  15. KNIBBER has no heart. Ever since they fired Agnew and put the gutless wonder, Lee "says no"
Hammer into the role as their official mouthpiece,
    they've gone into the toilet.

  16. I figure this is a whole lot about not much - but I do think stuff like this is good for local sports media types to go through from time to time. It's easy ripping someone you don't know or don't have a relationship with, I'm sure the players are enjoying seeing the shoe on the other foot.
I'd like to see less inflammatory verbiage all the way around.

  17. throughout this entire controversy, no one has brought up the juggling pink elephant in the room: tony bruno's knowledge of sports would fit comfortably into a thimble and he's been mailing it in for AT LEAST ten years...he's been getting gigs this entire time based SOLELY on name recognition gained from working at the Four Letter Network and i'd bet my life he had never even read ramon ramirez's name until that night...any notion that the guy follows sports is patently RIDICULOUS

  18. C'mon Mr Sports....when are you going to tune into the competition instead of the relentless trashing of something you clearly hate, KNBR. The Rise Guys is a refreshing alternative to KNBR's morning show. Truly. I know you don't like Dibley but he's 3rd banana. Whitey Gleason is a real talent, in my opinion....

  19. Bruno knows a lot more about sports than anyone around here. What the heck does Raddy Know? He never goes to any games, except to get a quick pre game interview. He spends most of his time talking about rap music and reality TV shows and other such nonsense. Damon Bruce tries to sound as if he knows what he's talking about, but it's a lot of noise and nonsense signifying nothing. The mid-day gigglers? Don't even go there! The morning frat boys? Are you kidding me? When he was on Raddy's show, Bruno was a refreshing half-hour of news, upbeat commentary, and interesting reflection. Yes, Bruno knows sports a lot better than so many of the local on-air guys who spend too much time talking about things that are not sports-related.

  20. More whining and bitching from internet tough-guys. Try to keep things in perspective. This is nothing more than a gossip site talking shit about a radio station that talks shit about grown-ups playing kids games. Ponderous...

@ 9:22: Rich is doing "the prophets work"? Time to put down the crack-pipe.

  21. Tried the "Rise Guys" this morning, was pleased to find that it comes in crystal clear here in Santa Rosa.
    It was horrible.

  24. Am a Giants fan and don't follow the A's--but IMO "the Game." is a nice alternative to the commercial leader-KNBR. Too much stupid slapstick between hosts on KNBR--whereas 'the Game' talks about all 5 Bay Area pro teams while KNBR is talking about golf, or where one of the hosts last ate, or OH- ANOTHER COMMERCIAL. In the morning drive its Cowherd on 1050 & the Game and only flip on KNBR when the goofballs are talking to Krukow or Kupier. On the evening drive after Ralph launches a 20 line question or another commercial--its back over to the Game unless A's apologist Chris Townsend is on (though he has done better and stopped whining about the Giants popularity since his AM days)
