Not a peep from Bay Area sports media on Bruno suspension--wonder why?; Do you watch local TV sports?; Tuesday dish

*Funny, last Friday night through Monday, from the coffee table to the papers, the radio talk-shows, TV, we had a plateful of the Tony Bruno affair.

Come Monday afternoon when Bruno received a one-week suspension, crickets. Nobody said a word. Sure, the Philly media, sports media bistro reported it, but that's it. I broke the story Monday afternoon.
It received no attention here. Funny, I thought news was a virtue here.

*Do you bother to make it a point to watch local TV news? The consensus in the industry is that, by and large, you don't, hence the lack of real commitment to the TV sports here. During the week, sure, the usual two-three minute segments with assorted video. On the weekend? You have to search hard. Thank ESPN for that distinction, among other things. We'll explore in a later post.

**See you later in the day for a self-serving milestone.

  1. Bruno is a clown - 1050 should drop him immediately

  2. Gary talked about Bruno's suspension on KRON at six.

  3. I used to watch the morning news every day but since John Kessler and Sydnie Kohara are gone there isn't one decent channel to watch!

  4. WHO CARES!? Enough on this non-story! Bruno made a stupid mistake and is paying the ultimate price. It's not like this has never happened before! (i.e. Krueger-gate) Aren't there other things in the local media that are more interesting and news worthy than this? Outside of his 1/2 hour on Radnich's show each day and his syndicated program on 1050 which really didn't deal much with the bay area, Bruno is not even a local figure.

  5. Not only do I not watch local TV sports, I don't watch ESPN for sports news. For the Big 3 sports, I turn to the NFL Network, NBA TV or MLB Network. Other than that, newspaper web sites, Yahoo sports, ESPN.com etc is sufficient.

  6. Sounds like KNBR just wanted to screw the town bicycle slut for a day who in this case was Tony Bruno. Since they know he is not on their BIG 680 station, they can throw him under the bus, screw him in the ass, and then discard him and move on which is exactly what they did. Despicable but no one there has any morals or ethics anyway so why are you surprised?

  7. I would have fired his racist, disingenuous ass.

  8. Bruce said that he and Hank Schulman are going at it on Twitter. I missed the whole story so I can't say its real or another Schulman-Dylan Hernanadez joke put down thang.
And I think we learned some things yesterday-If something goes wrong at KNBR-They blame RL 415 media. And that Damon Bruce knows when he gets a head kick here..he's earned it. Thats why he doth protest too much..well,rabidly too much!
And your right about local sports news..I wanted to see what 2,5,and 7, had to say..but no sports at their 5pm 'casts...and when they do them at 6,if your not nailed to the floor..they go by in a flash. You come back..its over. I did catch Radnich, who led off with the Bruno story..same old shit..Tony "doesn't have a racist bone in his body".yeah, but his brain ain't a bone.

  9. No,the Bruce-Schulman dust up was real..I read the tweets.
When was the last time Bruce admitted he was wrong?..that ego is going to make him a sidekick level talker forever.-He's back to Sabean doesnt know what he's doing, talk. Damon was the main poster to the FIRESABEAN.com site last year. NOW,thats real drivel.

  10. Why should I watch the local sports? By the time they're on, I've already seen the highlights on ESPN, ESPNews, or MLB network. Even for coverage of Giants or A's, I get more from MLB.com and MLB Network, ESPN news, SI.com, etc. The only thing local sports news is good for is feature stories about some prep swimmer or something like that. If they billboard a story like that, I'll watch. Otherwise, it's useless.

  11. One point about the Bruno madness that nobody has offered..Do you think Tony broke the golden rule of posting or tweeting-NEVER do those while drinking? Tony likes his wine, vino.
Could be part of the perfect mix that would make Bruno make such a oddly stupid -for him-tweet?
Something he might not want to admit.

  12. Bruno is a loser. Twittering with that level of anger--racist comment plus Bochy the coward--about a baseball game? Get a grip.

  13. And like somebody else posted...after less then two months-Kate Scott gets a week off? That sounds suspicious. I doubt Bruce and Radman have even noticed.
Radnich also seems to enjoy reading those fake emails that praise him for letting Bruce do the talking...that's his best honeymoon effort so far. It wont be long before Raddy starts to fight back.

Papa on 95.7 is running rings around his co-host who's the real host. Who would ever have thought that angry Greg who was a super Raider apologist two years ago..I didnt like him when he was a guest on KNBR..he came across as another Fitz or Krukow..would instead do a George Foreman like metamorphasis into a funny talker? Go figure.

  14. @1:45 Heck, yeah! You know that Red Wine Friday had to have something to do with that!

Isn't Tony supposed to broadcast from the Playboy Mansion this weekend?

  15. I think Bruno goes to Hef's place the weekend of Aug 20th.

  16. If Bruno had made these comments about, say, a Dodgers pitcher, no one in the Bay Area would even care. But because it was a Giants pitcher...

  17. Tony Bruno is a fraud. How do I know this? Because I know...having spent hours on the phone "listening" to how he has been screwed by in this order
    ESPN
    FOX SPORTS
    SPORTING NEWS RADIO
    CRAIG LARSEN
    SPORTING NEWS RADIO
    KNBR
    FOX SPORTS
    ESPN
    JT THE BRICK
    ETC ETC ETC...
phoney baloney Tony...yes he has talent and yes he is entrtaining but...remember he is only another big fathead with a mouth for hire...no different than any of the others....he messed up...he messed up big...and he will recover....he always has...he has enough toadeating "fans" to drool and let him know how great he is...what makesanyone think just because someone has a job on radio they are a great human being....phoney baloney Tony....finally said on the air the stuff I "listened" to for years on the other end of a melting cell phone....dont care if you dont believe this....but it is true...thats all...

  18. never in the history of radio has there been such an insecure performer as G. Rad....imagine if any other entertainer ever paused 4,5,10 times during a performance to validate their own performance by reading emails that praise their act...check the tapes...
Joe from Livermore sent a nice email...says he loves the show and really likes P Con and Kate blah blah blah. cannot help his self...can his...

  19. Hugh Hefner better ask Tony for his green card

  20. Not just a Bay Area behavior. The national media never ran with it either. The story does not have legs. Tony got mad after the beaning - really mad - and pulled out a stereotype, which he retracted immediately. It's hard to make much of it although they presented it to Ramirez and Bochy in hopes of getting more.

The strategy of going silent, i.e. not announcing the suspension and not having the fill-in host explain why they're filling in is interesting. If anyone cares in a week, it's a problem, otherwise it's problem solved.
