Radnich AWOL from KNBR

Officially, he's been on vacation, but now the speculation has turned to concern among the Cumulus suits.

Gary Radnich has been gone over three weeks; he was due back Monday from NY, but was delayed due to the hurricane.

It's Tuesday and he's still gone. Knibber management is said to be furious. He is supposed to be back at the mike, alongside Damon Bruce come Wednesday, "weather-permitting." I'm guessing he'll show up.

I do know this: Nobody takes a trip to a region where a hurricane is supposed to hit. It's not as if he didn't know. His own host wondered aloud "who does that?" (Nice, professional courtesy, by the way.)

Could this be a precursor to something more professionally ominous? Yes. But it may be only short-term. Big picture? Whether you like it or not, you're listening to GR's eventual replacement, far cheaper and sadly, geared more to the so-called "younger demo."

Too bad. Damon is good only for low powered AM at night with all the twittering/calling sports commandos with no lives. Gary is old, self obsessed and insecure, but he is still better in the 9-noon slot then Damon will ever be.

  2. Well, if you are in the "younger demo," Bruce is pretty good.

    I'm 43. What's your excuse?

  3. hahaha "sadly"? All you've done is slam this guy from one end to the other, now, what? You miss him?

I guess nothing will satify you. Either the hosts are too brash, or too vanilla. You hate KNBR, now there's nothing good on "The Game" either.

Guess you just like listening to a lot of stuff you're not entertained by? Confounding.

  4. Gary used to kid on the air that on his last day at KNBR he would wait for a commercial, announce he needed to use the restroom and not return.

Perhaps NYC was his bathroom break.

  5. Damon Bruce should change his name to Debbie Downer..wow,three hours of everything is bad locally. He doesn't have a realistic outlook about the Giants..he reverts to his pre 2009 rants. Like they never won the World Series, and like the loss of two Sanchez's and a Posey isn't a good cause for the teams bad run.
No,Damon is back to Dave Roberts.
Even his assertion that Lincecum is going to leave is based on his way of thinking. Maybe two Cy Youngs, a W.S. and S.F's cool weather and cool people suits Tim. It's not like the Giants low ball players on contracts...as Damon points out when it fits his arguments.
Rich,we got to give up thinking KNBR will hire people as smart as us. It ain't going to happen.

  6. Damon's show is Damon's show, whether it was on KNBR in the evening, 1050 in the afternoon, or KNBR in the morning...it has flow and a personality, and I have to say I have not missed Gary's off-topic, stream of consciousness babbles ("okay ah yuh yuh, Carmen Miranda, your thoughts 808-KNBR") and the hosts talking over each other...KNBR is gonna have to decide which guy to go with, it's too crowded with both of them. Damon does seem to get in the flow with Kate and Mike, no hint of the uncomfortable vibe that "Uncle Gary" often gave out...

Missing days is very passive aggressive, Gary...it might be time for you to take that long bathroom break, or for you and Bruno to take the act somewhere else

  8. Listened to Damon on the way home from the golf course this morning. I thought he was great.. What a pleasure it was not to hear Radnich blabbering over anyone's attempt to say anything. Do the world a favor Gary. Stay AWOL for the rest of your life..

  9. I think the Kate-Bruce dynamic is awful. She did better with Gary/Bruno segment than she does with Bruce. She can't add anything to the topic (her knowledge is weak) and he is more comfortable slobbering on the bone rock girl.

  10. I won't miss Radnich when he goes but rest assured I won't be listening to Bruce either. Crap! Hasn't the Bay Area managed to forgive Kruger yet? I'm sure Felipe has! Is there really something so bad with Ray Woodson that he can't get his own show? At least I don't feel homicidal when he fills in. I'd listen to Marty Lurie during the week but apart from baseball he doesn't seem interested. Bruce McGowan was good...not screamy enough for todays listener I guess!

    Radio sucks.

  11. Just noticed if you go on the KNBR homepage under shows they have Gary and Larry Kruger. Not sure if or when this was done. Might be a typo.

  12. Rich, Why are you obsessed with Gary and Knbr?

  13. yep....the knbr website has been changed....Gary and Larry. Its been changed in several places.

  14. Bring back Gary and Tony. Damon talks down to everyone with his loud ass opinion. He is always right! Stopped listening 9-12, switched to newstalk KGO for some intelligent conversations. Bring back Gary alone, send Damon back to his....wherever he came from.

  15. They pulled Damon's podcasts too.

  16. From where I'm sat, it looks like Gary stormed off to NY and held out until Damon got fired.

  21. I'm no fan of D.Bruce, but I didn't miss Radnich for the past 2 weeks either. 9-noon feels like a dead-air waste of time, which is sad because it's prime-time-drive-time. Wish there was a way to get Tolbert and together around that time, though then we'd probably be stuck with Ralph by himself on the drive home. His shrill act is old and tiresome, and it's only Tolbert that makes the show tolerable at all.

  22. Pretty crappy if Gary stabbed him...Do like Krueger...absolutely no more of racist-commenting Bruno in the AM

  23. Gary and Larry in the mornings.
Oh, so we get to hear TWO racists together.
    Great.

  24. Why do people commenting on this board presume Larry will bring anything to the show? He is lazy sportscasting at its best. Can't KNBR find better talent?
