Many of you asked that I take down the video of the fan in Texas who died as a result of the fall. I have not and will not because of the following.
This is a media blog.
The point of posting the video was to reveal the utter lack of professional tact by the A's TV broadcasters, Ray Fosse and Glenn Kuiper, whose laughter and giddiness amidst the event, I thought, was clearly out of bounds. Sure, Kuiper and Fosse, had they known the severity of the situation, would not have shown such insensitivity, but they were still laughing AFTER the fan dove head-first down to the pavement.
But that's not the issue here. What is the issue is the matter of posting the video. As chilling as the video is, it is not graphic. Had footage of the victims' eventual fall been publicized, then there'd be no video on this site. We're not that idiotic.
Kuiper and Fosse went over the line. Perhaps that would explain why they were given orders by Comcast and the A's, (I'm told) not to talk about thier behavior. They turned down numerous interview requests. Draw your own conclusions on that matter.
The video will stay up.

Get off your high horse Rich. I find it very amusing how you pick and choose who to call out and be pissed off about, as time passes it becomes obvious you call out those who you feel have slighted you in the past. What an a-hole you are...
ReplyDeleteThe family of the victim has requested media outlets stop using this video. Out of common courtesy to them, you should follow suit.
ReplyDeleteMy opinion; If the family of the victim checks out 415 Media and sees their family member then requests that it be removed then I will agree. This is a membership blog and not a media outlet so I agree 100% with Rich on leaving the video up for the reasons he stated. For the rest of us, if we are offended we don't have to view the video.
ReplyDeleteWhy would you want to interview Kuiper and Fosse. What's the purpose?
ReplyDelete"As chilling as the video is, it is not graphic".
Gee, did you ask Mr. Stone's son?
You've watched enough news that if the guy was okay, that'd be a blooper everywhere.
ReplyDeleteSo Rich, you’ve never laughed at or thought something was funny that you weren’t suppose to laugh at or think was funny, as a first reaction?
ReplyDeleteStop the politically correct and holier than thou B.S.
It’s not like Ray Fosse and Glenn Kuiper knew how bad it was and what the situation would turn out to be.
Richie, is it true that Ray Fosse and Glen Kuiper are opening for Carrot Top at the Punchline this weekend and move on to the Chuckle House in Sacramento next?
ReplyDeleteWe've been conditioned to laugh at someone's physical misfortune by all those stupid Sports Center bloopers, America's Funniest Videos and Jackass. Maybe this will stop this idiocy.
In the past we used to find humor in drunks. Now, in the post-MADD world, there's nothing funny about a sloppy drunk.
For the record, Fosse, I didn't laugh when Pete Rose destroyed your career.
In the hundreds of games Kuiper and Fosse have done, how times has some guy tumbled out of the stands trying to snare an $8 baseball? In this case, did they know it was a 20 foot drop to hard pavement below? I give them the benefit of the doubt.
ReplyDeleteAfter your childish rant last week, you dismissively say "Please, folks, it's just a media blog"....When others question your tact on this issue, it suddenly becomes "Excuse me--this is a MEDIA BLOG." You are a bi-polar jerk.
Rich is a hero. He is keeping up video of someone dying. Maybe he should find some 9/11 footage to post. After all, that wasn't 'graphic.'
ReplyDeleteI laugh at the fools who rip you. Where are the Rangers morals? did they cancel the next days game as a simple humane tribute? Of course not-It's in Texas so,they washed the blood off the cement with a garden hose and took in a million dollars worth of tickets.
ReplyDeleteThe Rangers weren't going to lose a buck for some firefighters death. It's George and Laura Bush country..each of whom lives with killing others just fine.
Rich, you posted a video of someone in the process of being killed. You are in no position to give a holier-than-thou lecture to the two A's announcers who joked about an incident without knowing how serious it was. Once they realized what was going on, they stopped joking about it.
ReplyDeleteOh, but we are idiotic for leaving traumatic video here because we don't know if the Stone family has any relatives or friends that live in the Bay Area and may have subtly or inadvertently ran into your page.
ReplyDeleteI emphatically agree with 10:38! 1:13, for most if not all of us following this blog, it's too late, we saw it before it was added here. Some of our stomachs churned when we saw it live. With free speech should always come discretion. Discretion? What discretion here?
I also concur with 1:30, and 3:05 makes a great point about Sports Center, & Jackass. Also add Real Housewives, Jersey Shore, and other imbecile reality shows that too many young people lazily enjoy.
And JJW, good work on the sarcasm! Lieberman is way, way off base on this from a humane standpoint! Hard to respect this opinion here!
I'm desperate for attention and hits to my little blog. I'm going to leave this video up because it is causing some noise. Mountain Mikes ads just aren't enough.
ReplyDeleteHey Rich,
ReplyDeleteSave your sanctimonious anger. It's obvious Fosse and Kuiper were unaware of the gravity (no pun intended) of the situation and would have acted differently had they realized what happened.
For you to get all self-righteous about this is misguided, self-serving, and yet another reminder of the kind of angry, attention-grabbing guy you are.
I saw the fan fall 'live.' I didn't think much of it. Another fan falling, reaching for $6 baseball.
ReplyDeleteSee it all the time... Unlike Rich and other arm chair critics who saw it after the fact.
