Karel uses KGO show to plug comedy gig; Like, say Ten, Twenty Times?

KGO Radio bills itself as "news-talk." Info central and news for you, the listeners, to "talk about and 'comment'."

Last night, Karel, the station's 7-10 talker used his three hours to plug a personal comedy show tonight at a local nightclub. Like, oh, say, about 10, 20 times?, maybe more. I couldn't keep count. In between the plugs to the "hot show", he also plugged his web site, his other ventures, etc. At times, I thought I was listening to the radio equivalent of the Home Shopping Network.

KGO apparently thinks Karel's open-whoring is cool enough for them; after all, it's their air. The fact that those listening were fed what was tantamount to an infomercial benefiting the hosts' self-interest is beside the point. News? Talk? Fugeeet about it. Who needs that?

Oh, Karel did get around to discussing actual topics like the Oslo tragedy and the origin of Irish coffees, (I'm not kidding), but the majority of the program was "go to my web site to buy tix---buy tix at.....etc." If it wasn't so unintentionally funny, it would have been sad, which it sort of was.

Everyone has a right to plug his or her's various wares--O'Reilly, Savage, Hannity, Malloy, Colmes, et al, do it regularly, but they don't use the ENTIRE show! Karel might as well hired some operators standing by. Wonder what three hours of prime time on KGO costs? Oh hell, I forgot, its the weekend.

Another thing: Karel has been mentioning for some time that "tix would go fast--you better hurry and buy them fast." Last night during the second hour of the show, he was urging fans to buy seats: "You can now get 2-FOR-1! if you go to my web site." Two-for-one tix. Yeah, sounds like SRO. Maybe there's drink specials too?

  1. Is he Gary Radnichs adult son? Because,Radnich's constant plugging of KNBR as a joke, running gag, favor to pals or those he thinks are pals (until they can get a away from him to 95.7 and freedom),and the whole boring ,mute or change channel effect schtick he thinks MAKES him, is like what you describe of Karel.
And you know-his constant "wink, wink" he does-that you see on Comcast- that's a cue "he's playing" is a bit spooky. What then does he really beleive? Why would a man pretend to be a phony? or is it because as Kate Scott hinted at..he is. And its compulsive.
But hey, it's KNBR. All in fun-right?

  2. I listened to Karel’s show for 3 hours last night and he did not spend his whole show hawking his appearance you filthy liar. He mentioned it a few times but you make it seem like the whole 3 hours was spent trying to sell tickets.
I never heard you complain when Ronn Owens would mention his dumb book a thousand times on his show. You have no credibility you fat slob. Why don’t you go on another hiatus already?

  3. Hey, I said the same thing just this morning on an older thread: "Karel is nothing but an infomercial for himself..." Glad you agree.

I suggest that Karel apply for a gig at QVC.

  4. And yes,I did change to 95.7. Radnich drove me away with his constant KNBR infomercial show. No Giants or A's talk. It was all gibberish, and blubbering ending with "KNBR".

  7. I heard Karel through a couple of news breaks, so I'm guessing a little over an hour. I heard him push the show but not as often as you intimate.
What about the lawyer who is always pimping his 'seminars', or Ronn his cruises and a few years ago his "voice of reason" book that he worked into every conversation?
When Karel slips you obsess about it for days,a measured Savage spends hours blaming Islam and liberals for the right-wing kook in Norway and it's crickets here.

you know what i mean, Rich L is equally angry at everyone on the planet, not necessarily at karel in particular. :)

  9. My feelings about the talentless amateur that is Karel have been laid out here many times. A couple of months ago, the idiot whined and moaned about how he is oh-so-wronged by people all the time, and why-oh-why doesn't anything go his way. (Here's the link: http://radiokrl.com/wp/?p=964)

    I can tell you why.

Because he's absolutely no good at anything he does.

Radio? Karel is a bitter, angry, amateur who can't stay on point, treats his callers like crap, and has no idea how to transition to commercial breaks. He has no business being on the radio anywhere.

Stand-up show isn't selling? If one of his video clips is any indication, the man has no stage presence, speaking to his audience with his eyes closed half the time while bopping back and forth like he's got some sort of physical/mental defect. AND, truth be told...
    HE'S. JUST. NOT. FUNNY.

Singing? I think most of us would rather hear nails down a chalk board.

Writing? You have to wonder if Huffington Post has editors, because the man can't write. Bad grammar and run-on sentences abound.

I respect Karel's passion to want to be in show business. But in trying to do everything, he is good at nothing.

In fact, he down right sucks.
