Bronstein fires back at the SFGate "Commenter's"

Turns out, I'm not the only non-admirer of the cretins who hide behind their electronic notepads and write stupid, insensitive, BIG, BIG WORDS in CAPS and spew forth venom, most of it anonymously. Cowards, really.

Key word: ANONYMOUSLY. It's one thing to take savage shots; at least by going public, there's a bit of accountability to it. That makes too much sense.

Phil Bronstien, in today's SFGate, fires back at the pc cowards. He makes a lot of sense too, drawing from a couple of recent, local tragedies, one of which hit the editor-at-large personally. Sure, Bronstein may be a tad too smug here, but he makes a lot of points.

Making a lot of points and sense on the Internet can be hazardous to your health. Take note, "commenter's."

  1. Bronstein's blog went viral, over 1000 comments. Most disagreed with him, about 7 to 1, saying the compassion should be reserved for those who didn't cause their own death or injury by stupidity. One of the most popular pointed out that ignoring warning signs and shouts from bystanders warning of danger is not an accidental death. Another stated that pointing out their stupidity might cause others to consider their actions in advance. I felt extremely sorry for their families, them, not so much.

  2. Bronstein should be one of the of the last to sound offended..he IS and HIS paper foster the trolls. A great example? SF Gate far exceeds BANG or Mercury news sites in "Killings, shootings, child abuse in the ghetto and barrio" stories. If there are none this day....the SF Gate editors TROLL the L.A.Times to find a Mexican did-it-storie.
As I USED to read the Gate,I found myself fighting a tide of bigots who of course followed the blood posted by SF Gate editors with racist posts and then endless "Are they legal?..or they skip the question and pronounce all latin sounding names as illegals. It's now a running joke on SF Gate the dead on Oakland and Richmond streets. Somehow THEIR writers have that ability to draw out the racist comments.
Phil must have had a bad day to notice that some who HE might meet in HIS life died in tragic ways.
My guess Phil, like his editors, are trolling right now the Times for the next Mexican- branded- his- son, story that is breaking news,SF Gate front page. Right Phil?

  3. I always wonder why, when someone goes wandering off into the wilderness, the taxpayers should pay for the search? If you're going out where there are no roads, isn't it your responsibility to get home safely?

When some adventurer goes off to sea and then hits some huge storm, why should the Coast Guard or Navy search for them? It's kinda lame to be an adventurer, until things go wrong, and then you cry for mommy. Once you get past the Golden Gate Bridge, you should be on your own, buddy.

I'm sorry. Call me timid, but it would never occur to me that others should expend resources to find me if I did such reckless things. By the way, I don't think insurance should pay off for those idiots either.

  5. Phil Bronstein-what a joke. The man's own writings are on the conservative side,he panders to the right with his sensational blood stories of crimes.
Liberal media? Where? He's Rubert without the hacking..I think.

  6. Couldn't agree with Phil more. Why is it people like to make those "Darwin Award" comments? Makes them feel superior? Everyone else is stupid except them? Maybe they are "Laughing at the Devil", afraid they know they too might do something really dumb that could even cause their own demise? It's really bad karma especially under the cover of anonymity. Everyone does careless stupid stuff because we are all stupid human beings in the end. This kinda goes along with a general Tea Party dispassionate lack of civility this society is descending into.

Good luck to the cowardly commentators. Keep your underwear clean like your momma taught you.

  7. Very amusing to read Rich Lieberman call for online civility when prior to his hiatus he wrote a few vitriolic, venomous posts with curse words galore and painted himself as Dirty Harry with a fedora.
