'Why are you so damn negative?'; Happy days are here again

OK, so you want some "positive" stuff? No more negativity? You got it. Enjoy.

Enjoy the mediocrity.

Bathe in the lovely industry that has rewarded you with animal excrement. Wallow in the fragile environment of supersized egos with zero talent, guile and moxie. You deserve it all.

Don't worry, be happy. Aren't you all just happy?

Isn't it so sweet and peachy?

Ain't the world so great? You betcha.

  1. Rich, I enjoy the blog. I like the rants. I am as cynical as the next disenchanted TV news survivor.

But I do wonder sometimes about all of the energy WE collectively spend complaining (and listening to the complaints) about NBC moving to San Jose, lack of respect shown to accomplished vets in the market, unbelievable talent choices at KNBR, biased sports coverage, etc. Isn't it just shouting into the emptiness and enjoying each others echos?

If I saw a homeless man talking to a brick wall about how unfair life is, I'd think, "hey bro, that wall isn't going to do anything for you, try mowing lawns or sweeping out gutters and things might change for you." Complaining to the brick wall is a lot easier than doing the dirty work of course.

Maybe I am wrong and the wall is listening; the decisionmakers in this market do read this blog and it influences their decisions. If so, great.

Bitching and moaning is easy, building a platform and an audience is hard. Props to you for doing both.

I don't know you; I have no idea what your goals or professional aspirations are-I am sure they are journalistically as pure as the driven snow. But if I told you that KTVU was willing to pay you $20K/month to say nice things here, or that hiring younger and prettier writers for half the price would put more money in your pocket every month, or that moving this blog from Blogspot to Wordpress would make you more money, you'd have to consider it.

    I certainly would.

  2. Be negative, and sit with your back to the wall-and you'll survive longer is always good advice.

  3. The happy news bit never works, never will. I prefer the good old dirt! The in's/out's of our local media, not the brainwashing garb the big 3 feed us. But the honest creative juices that flow here on RL415.

  6. Does this blog have influence an above asks? Well,Christina Loren no longer wears dresses with gold nipples,er,buttons anymore. You might say, posts that caused the end of that were an abuse of power!

  7. Yeah Rich, you old grump!!

As far as happy talk goes - as pissed as I still am at KGO for dumping our beloved Baxter, I grudgingly turned on AM810 to find Bret Burkhart on with Jone-Lee. There is a chemistry there that works in the morning. They ought keep Bret right there.

Also a pleasure to hear Kessler filling in. He's got a great radio voice and temperament. KGO would do well to lure him away from those TV morons.

  8. Ok so Baxter wasn't dumped, he made the decision to retire. To everything there is a season, we boomers have had our day. Let the Facebookers have it!
