Flash: 'ESPN Deportes' to take over KTRB; UPDATED Info
ESPN Deportes, the Spanish language multi-media affiliate of ESPN, will take over the programming of local radio albatross, KTRB, sometime in August, according to a well-placed media source familiar with both outlets.
KTRB, in receivership since September of last year, has been on the selling block for some time now--the one-time Oakland A's flagship station has been broadcasting on a shoestring budget and has carried mostly syndicated programming of late.
No specific details of the pending programming move has been made nor have the financial aspects been revealed.
KTRB, (860 AM,) has been broadcasting at significantly less its 50,000-watt capability due to tower maintenance issues and regularly signs off at sunset.
UPDATE: From sources: The owner will remain Pappas Radio Broadcasting (CoMerica Bank having turned it over to a court-appointed receiver who will control it). KTRB will be leased by Deportes Media (‘DM’), a company formed specifically to lease radio stations for ESPN Deportes. ESPN Deportes pays DM a fee to put its’ programming on the air. It’s kind of like ESPN Deportes leasing the station with DM as a buffer.

A home for Spanish language A's broadcasts?
ReplyDeleteI just hope Rick Tittle lands over on the new FM outlet ... Ron Barr can fade away and no one would notice.
