Couric's new ABC show dooms '7Live'; 95.7 'Morning Show' is still dreadful; Wednesday rundown

Katie Couric's new syndicated deal with ABC likely means the end of KGO-TV's ill-conceived, '7Live.'

ABC has allotted Couric's new talkfest the 3-4 PM hour; originally, Couric's reps wanted 4 PM, but many stations, (including KGO here,) have begun running hour-long news shows.

Couric's new show is set to debut in Sept. of 2012.

'7Live' debuted last September and has been beset by low ratings. It has been rumored for months that KGO already had a judge show in place for the struggling local filler.

Couric's deal ensures '7Live' is a goner.

*Just to be fair, I listened to this morning's 'JD' show on the All-sports 95.7 FM. Could only listen for an hour, ( 7-8 AM) before the banality of fart sound effects, innocuous A's chatter, and newcomer, Dan Dibley's antiseptic, unfunny "takes" led me away.

Another thing: for a new outlet, ("The ONLY FM sports station,) to highlight its effort to reach out to Eastbay/Southbay fans, the incessant, long-winded 49ers talk was a tad bizarre, not to mention, totally insignificant. (Who cares about Michael Crabtree and Alex Smith during the NFL lockout? Nice way to get an audience, guys)

Beyond that, this "Monte" guy is chock full of nothings. He doesn't say anything that's remotely funny. His shtick is stupid, and his two unfunny sidekicks don't really help him out either.

Just another sad, boring, "morning-zooish" amateur show punctuated with a few callers that has no originality. But then again, isn't that the norm these days?

  1. Monte has toned it down a notch since his opening salvo's at Dibs that he tried to pass off as initiation. Yeah, like a frat boy hazing.
The more Monte dials it down..the smarter he sounds, really. And -just compare that 95.7 morning show to KNBR's munchkins,as predictable as can be. Already 95.7 is the better morning show. Neither show has any loyalty from me-they get boring,I go to music. But,right now,95.7 is first choice morning show..as flawed as it is.
The 1-4 95.7? HORRIBLE..I went back to "reborn Bruce" The 1-4 guy says he's from Pleasanton..and he and his pal sound like they know only whitebread society. They even gave the occasional woman co-host,the get back in the kitchen, line. Just an idiot show.

  2. the team from the 1-4 is a morning "zoo crew" show up here in sacramento. there are 3 in the morning (the women is the third) , but the two guys are also trying to syndicate a sports talk show. basically, they are doing the morning zoo thing in a sports format. its just as bad as it sounds.

is scott jackson even in the studio...or even in the west coast? he kept calling dibs "jd" and "monty". he seems to have no idea what is going on. i got embarrassed for the guy. they couldn't pick up a single caller.

overall, 95.7 is a complete train wreck. but it will make you laugh and squirm. i'm enjoying it while its here.

  3. I do believe you were the first to call it on 7Live. KGO you owe RL415 the honors of pulling the plug on the final show!
But no worries NBC11 will pick it up as they tend to bottom feed off the SF market.

  4. Maybe KRON will pick it up and bring back Ann Frazier and Ross McGowan ( no relation to Peter).

  6. I'll try and distance myself from the 1-4 guy if he's from P-town. Sounds like the congloms still refuse to listen to the listeners.

  7. 95.7 is mediocre to listenable, but I'll give it a try because its not KNBR. Monte is dealing with "SkipBayless-itis", which means he'll disagree vehemntly with the popular opinion. 3 guys in the morning-no! Two inbreds in the afternoon-double no! (It'd rather listen to Ron and Don "kicking your ass around the Bay" on the old Ticket 1050 and that show was pathetic). Townsend is OK, but he's trying to be Jt the Brick and be on all day. The two best shows are the bookend national show (Steve Czaben early AM and Todd Wright 7-11 pm, when Townsend is not hogging the slot), they should bleed those shows as repeats over the 1-4 pm and 6-10 am (cut that in half) until they get Kruger, London, Bruce etc. It's a work in progress.

  10. why no radio ratings numbers anymore Rich - have to get them from the Chron - maybe because your "favorite station" has moved back up to 4th place (even tho these are only overall numbers and not the demo ones that really count)

By the numbers: And the new champion is ... KQED! Yes, the NPR station notched its first No. 1 ratings period ever in the April Arbitron rankings with a 6.6 percent share of the available audience. KCBS slipped from 6.8 in March to a 6.3, while KOIT had a 5.2. Note: These are the overall ratings, for listeners ages 6 and up, from 6 a.m. to midnight. Advertisers do not buy such general demographics, but these numbers indicate overall popularity. Now then: Fourth place went to KNBR (4.4, up from 2.5, thanks to a certain baseball team), followed by KMVQ ("Now") (4.3). KGO, a lock at No. 1 for 30 years, until last year, is tied with KYLD ("Wild") for sixth, with 4.2. "Wild's" sister KMEL had a solid 3.9.

Then it's KBRG (3.5), KISQ ("Kiss") (3.4), KIOI ("Star") (3.2), KSAN ("The Bone") (2.9), KSOL (2.6), KSFO (2.5), and, tied with 2.4, KBLX, KFOG and KUFX ("KFOX"). The latter, in its second month with twin signals (98.5 and 102.1), jumped from a 1.6. Meantime, KKSF, in its final month as a classic rocker, had a 1.9, trailing both KLLC ("Alice") and KRZZ ("Raza") at 2.1 and rounding out the Top 20. Just outside: KBAY and KITS ("Live 105") with 1.8. Classical KDFC, having moved to a weaker signal at 90.3, managed only 0.7.

  11. Scott Jackson works out of radio station 106.7 The Fan in Washington D.C. He co-hosts a show on Saturday's with former Redskin Brian Mitchell

  12. The Niners in the off season are much more interesting to me than the A's. I gave 95.7 a few hours in the last month and the incessant A's talk chased me back to KNBR. They cater to the east bay and as a south bay Niners and Giants fan it's not for me.

  13. the 6-10am show is listenable on 95.7; not great but it is much better than KNBR with 3 times less adds and useless updates.
