Wednesday nuggets; Wang, the latest; KGO 'Important Announcement' Folly; Pounding my chest

*A media friend tells me the word is that Janelle Wang, late of KGO-TV and headed for NBC Bay Area in August, will take the role of Jessica Aguirre, and co-anchor with Raj Mathai.

*KGO Radio, so sad department: during the morning news, (and just after Ed Baxter's retirement phono) anchors Jon Bristow, (who's replacing Baxter,) and Jennifer Jones-Lee promised, (7x, I may add) a "SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT"... ala that would "change the Bay Area." 7 TIMES...The "special announcement?" GM Deidre Lieberman, announced a "Wipe out Hunger" promotion in Sept. (I'm not kidding)...New hire? Nah, Format change? Nah. We get a special announcement that amounts to NOTHING. (Nothing against Bay Area food banks, obviously, but when you announce this and get that, we'll, you get the current KGO Radio. And you wonder why almost everyone in the building is sending out resumes.)

*Pounding my chest: If you read this site, you know during the past 72 hours, you read industry news broken HERE, exclusively. News you didn't get anywhere else except HERE.

*My KNBR mole tells me Raddy is privately "pissed off" that his buddy, "Dibs", left him to the ex-marine lout and took the 95.7 gig. Poor Raddy, maybe he needs another 7-up.

  1. OMG! If Wang takes over for Aguirre, they might as well shut off the power. Horrible idea. KNTV's news director is quickly making a mess of the place...did he intern for KRON?

  2. Jessica is out? Is it part of the fallout of that horrid decision to mutilate her lips?
Or is Jessica moved to a different time?
Or,she aged?..the usual reason along with making too much money.

  3. The rumor re the "big" KGO announcement was that they would either resume the Leukemia Cure-A-Thon or re-tool the old Bernie Ward Thanksgiving Charity food drive (which btw did very well). I see now that it is the latter. Good luck to them. The food banks in the Bay Area need all the help they can get.

  5. Radnich show sure went down a few levels in interest. He doesnt jibe with the Confederate white race defender("Call me Honky and I will fight you!") like he did the more liberal Dibs.
It's been a dull show today. Hockey-- and Derek Jeter??...nothing at all about the Giants,Warriors, A's, or 49ers. Just dull.

  6. KNTV outsed Sinkovitz for Mathai... now, Aguirre for Wang? And where is your confirmation, Blogger? I bet Jessica is screaming in her chair reading these comments / your blog. Sorry KNTV but I won't be watching whether its Wang, Kessler, whoever... The only reason I watch is JEFF RANIERI!!! 11:15PM, that's it for me.

I'm here to tell you NBC SF could move out of San Jose in the middle of a broadcast and not one San Josean would notice! Not ONE...
Wang as the co-anchor is just wacky. Bring back Doug and Maggie!!!!!

  8. Amen about Doug & Maggi! And bring back the "News 11" slogan and sig-out!

  9. When you're failing, you make changes, unless you're an idiot. Channel 11 News is failing in the marketplace. They are trying to find anchors who will resonate with the Bay Area audience. Obviously Sinkovitz and Aguirre didn't. You can't fault management here.

  10. Aquirre is NOT being force out. She has voluntarily submitted her resignation after landing the role of The Joker in the next Batman installment. Seriously, compare the headshots.

  11. I remember when the Bruno segment was “must listen to” radio. No more. Uncle Gary screwed it all up. His biggest mistake is underestimating the audience. He thinks those with only a high school diploma, who wear their hat backwards and their pants below their fanny are the ones he should cater to. There’s a vast audience of educated people who are hungry for sports talk without references to Jet magazine, Ebony or People Magazine.
If KNBR wants to make a bold statement they should get rid of him and try someone else. His show is flailing and you can tell because he tries harder to be obnoxious and louder. The Dibley move shows that Raddy not the local “force” he once was; if anything working with him may not be good for the resume in the long run. Good luck to Dibs!

  12. I'm telling you-the loss of Dibs is big. Radnich whole demeanor is like he's in mourning. None of that laugh for 3 hours..on Comcast he went many long stretches without even a smile.
And blond Kate Scott is typical 29 year old attractive ice cool. She's not going be one of the boys.
I sort of feel sorry for Radnich because the impact means that its now a boring show to critisize as opposed to that-you hear what he said? as of last week and history.
Patrick Connor makes Radnich sound like John Lennon liberal in comparison.
That show needs an infusion fast..the blond may be from Berkeley-but she has nothing to say.

  13. My my but Radnich is becoming a sensitive old queen!

Hey Rich....any rumors about Damon Bruce returning to KNBR I think he did some fill in time last weekend?

  14. I just can't believe KNTV would use Wang for anything. She is talentless. But then they kept Laura Garcia (whatever her full name is). Such potential with NBC ownership but the station is still perceived as not ready for prime time (or any daypart)

  15. Eric Brynes showed up on Comcast and did his dumb as a log opinions. What a air head. He wore his best stained faded t shirt and worn jeans with a thug style basball hat pulled low. He also punctuated his conversation by dropping "check this" to Barry Tompkins whenever Eric spoke...badly.
He is so hyper..he's got to be on something. A juicer never changes. Don't expect Brynes to last beyond this season as a host-mark my word. Even KNBR can't be that unproffesional.
