Media Mill Wednesday...
Former KRON Weatherman extraordinaire, Mark Thompson, (when KRON was legit) has been down in LA 21 years at the Fox affiliate forecasting the weather, (among other things.) No longer.
Thompson announced last night that he's leaving the station and according to insiders, his contract wasn't renewed, via Newsblues.com, (paywall)
Before departing for the southland, Thompson was a fixture in Bay Area local TV. In addition to his KRON weather duties, the very funny Thompson did a little stand-up comedy and was often seen hanging out at the Punchline.
It was comedic element that got the attention of the LA market where Thompson both excelled in local TV weather and where he hosted a game show for the Fox TV network.
A staffer at the station told Newsblues that Thompson was a "victim of bottom-line management."

I get a bit tired of your KRON cheapshots. Thompson was at KRON 21 YEARS AGO. (when it was legit...come on). We had bricks at cell phones, there were no laptops and cable was just a baby. You are just jealous. Have you kissed the steps of KRON yet? Please answer. I bet if asked to replace the current news director's job or to be a VJ you would jump at the chance.
ReplyDeleteI hope he returns to the Bay Area.
ReplyDeleteIt would be nice to have Mark Thompson return to a station in the Bay Area. Luckily he still seems to have voice-over work to keep him gainfully employed. He's quality talent indeed.
