SF Media/Giants face dilemma if Bonds Verdict comes down Friday

Pause for a moment if you happen to be in local SF media and consider this juicy nugget: What if the Barry Bonds trial verdict were to come down late Thursday or Friday morning? Stranger things have happened.

Might a Bonds verdict, say, uh, overshadow a certain opening day event over at AT&T Park? Friday happens to be that day.

Don't think it hasn't crossed the minds of several assignment editors. And we haven't even weighed in on what the Giants' PR dept. is thinking. (As if they don't have other issues to consider--the Dodger Stadium incident and the World Series flag raising.)

Of course all of this will be moot if the Bonds jury is still deliberating and won't have a verdict until next week at the earliest. Certainly local editors--TV, radio, on-line folks hope so--but I wouldn't rule out anything.

  2. They should embrace it-emblazon it in HUGE letters on the park scoreboard. "BONDS WINS" or "BONDS INNOCENT". We see Barry at the park with the head honchos all the time-he's not a pariah with the present Giant org.
Take it as another Giant's victory and move on with the Bonds statue in front of the park even Baer and Neukom say Bonds built.

  3. If a verdict comes down Friday it won't take long for the info to make it through the crowd. I remember a few years ago when Rod Beck passed away, it wasn't acknowledged during the game via scoreboard or Renel. We just heard it from those in the stands with radios.
With about 40K fans with cell phones on it will be very interesting should a decision be made during the game.

  4. Regardless of the verdict, we all know he is a cheater and the Giants would be smart to not make a big deal of it. Wash their hands of the poster child of all that is wrong with baseball and focus on the season at hand.

  5. wash their hand? how about taking down ATT park instead? ATT does not exist today w/o Bonds.

  6. 552pm Are you kidding me. Bonds is who the government deemed they wanted to go after BEFORE they nail Clemmens.
Research this Name: Jeff Novitsky. He is the pond scum former prosecutor that asked MLB players to provide a list of other players that they thought were doing PED's.
    They said NO.

What did Novitsky do? He made up his OWN list by JUST writing names down on a piece of paper.

The Hall of Fame is a Museum. Kanislaw Mountain Landis is in. A Manager who fought against the color line being broken.
Ty Cobb sharpened his spikes in the dugout so he could inflict pain when he slid into a base. Rumor has it that Cobb may have "killed" a person or two.

Keeping Pete Rose and Barry out of the Hall is just a mockery. Rose and Bonds were HOF players before they fell to their temptations.
