Flash! 95.7 'The Wolf' to go All-Sports

Entercom's country 95.7 "The Wolf" FM will go to an all-sports format, according to a reliable broadcast source.

The station recently obtained broadcast rights to Oakland A's baseball for the 2011 season and any post-season games.

Specifics of the changeover are not immediately known, but the source indicated the all-sports format was a "done deal" and may  will  include the San Jose Sharks as another partner along with the A's.

UPDATE: The story is now confirmed.

I will talk with A's pre and pg host Chris Townsend later today.

  1. This is the most awesome news!!! We need them to pick up the Raiders and we will have what KTRB was supposed to be in a better format. We need more Townsend!

  2. Makes sense. Sharks were already on an Entercom station with KFOX I'm pretty sure

  3. I'll assume you'll apply the same rigid standards that you do for KNBR in that they cover the "other teams" and if they spend an hour bashing the Giants, you'll cry "shill for the A's". Anything less wreaks of an axe to grind on your part, Rich.

Other than that, will the A's own any part of "The Wolf"? I'm less concerned about having a sports talk alternative to KNBR (although competition should make for a healthier variety) and more concerned about the Athletics finally competing off the field, buying their own "bullhorn", having some stability on the dial, and FINALLY controlling the distribution of their product.

Finally, any word on that hinted story of who got a championship ring beyond the players? If you tease, you gotta deliver (except for the speedo and step-kissing thing. Nobody wants to see that! lol)

    Also note to "The Wolf"...

    Damon Bruce

Steal this guy as your foundation stone for a new sports talk station. Make it happen!

  4. How about a return to KKHI classical format now that KDFC has reduced reach...

  5. If they add real sports hosts-who can at least TRY to sound independent- the swith from KNBR to Wolf would easy as pie.
Give Ann Killion a shot as a host-she's one of the best there is,and would be the first woman host on sports radio locally. It would make Bubba and the smarter sports fans happy.

  6. Thank God! Please end knbr's wretched grasp of the airwaves. All I ask for is a station that at least aknowledges that the A's, Raiders and Sharks exist and have thrived in the past. ENOUGH WITH THE GIANTS 24 HOUR COMMERCIAL.

  7. For those of us who enjoy sports talk/entertainment, this is good news. Competition is a good thing.

P.S. I'll still change the station if NASCAR, golf, fantasy anything, the WNBA or hockey is being discussed.

  8. Wow, great news! Please don't get Radnich on that station, or in a few years you'll have to ask people questions like this in listener surveys...

Why are you listening less to Gary Radnich's show?

    a. Don't like his interaction with Patrick Connor

    b. His show isn't topical anymore

    c. Don't like his segment with Tony Bruno

    d. Talks too much about other radio and TV personalities

    e. Don't like his interaction with Dan Dibley

    f. He's rude to his callers

    g. Gary doesn't talk enough about sports

    h. Talks too much about music and singers

    i. Too many inside jokes about people I don't know or care about

    j. Talks too much about entertainment and TV shows

    k. Talks too much about his Comcast TV show

    l. He sounds dull and boring

    m. OTHER

  9. I wouldn't get that excited about a new station. If the A's, Sharks, and Raiders are involved, like KNBR, expect nothing other than corporate propaganda disguised as entertainment promoting the various organizations. Don't be fooled.

  10. If KGO can be taken down to it's knees, so can KNBR ... Viva La Revolution!

  11. Hammer must be rethinking something. Byrnes is and was good when he is sharing the mic. Last night with Tom at the helm Byrnes was passable.

His solo show reeks of twitter this and facebook that. Many of you dispised FP. I was not one of them as I liked him even though he did piss you guys off.

Here is your CHANCE to tell Hammer what you think.

  12. They keep playing the same songs and then the same highlight reel over and over again... The highlights include all sports teams even the Giants and then Brian Wilson saying "this is ridiculous"

I have heard Centerfield by John Fogarty and Glory Days by the Boss several times.

Also I just saw a tweet from Chris Townsend that he is going into station to hear details of the new station. Come on Rich even you will agree he is a HUGE homer for the A's

    Ok back to D-Bruce

  13. A lineup of Ann Killion,Paul Gutierrez,Ratto-a better host than commenter or writer,Rich Lieberman,Tim Kawakami, maybe even Vern Glenn and Lowell Cohn and his Kid as co -host. The dream team!

  14. I hope there is room for Cal Football and Men's Basketball talk on this station. Cal is virtually ignored by KNBR. At least 860/Sportsbyline has Roxy Bernstein. Maybe Bernstein can join 95.7 now.

  15. Get a combination Tim Kawakami, Monte Poole, Mark Ibanez, Ray Woodson, Lowell Cohn, Ann Killion, Greg Papa... that would be nice

  16. Great news. Here are some suggestions for on air talent.
    The Press Box.
    Larry Krueger.
    Ann Killion.
    Rick Tittle.
An expanded role for Chris Townsend.

  17. Good anything beats KNBR hope that they run at least espn or even fox sports shows am tired of hearing the local dribble all the time. Better not be Sports Byline or more like Sports Boreline with rick tittle and the same monolog all the time at the beginning our the annoying Jeff Sheen and JJ i once played football Stokes and roxy I announce Cal Berkely Bernstein three yelling no talent a group if their was ever on Sports talk radio.

Is Sports byline paying ktrb for airing the programming?

Hope they can get the full Dan Patrick show rather than the 2 hours give or take a half hour that knbr airs

  18. "Is Sports byline paying ktrb for airing the programming?"

No, Sports Byline is 'squatting' on 860 while that signal is in financial limbo.

And Sports Byline doesn't have a dime to even pay their own people. Rick Tittle earns about 18 grand a year. I suppose you get what you pay for.

  19. Roxy would be great, especially if the station can land Cal. Hopefully he won't bring his co-hosts with him.

  20. Great news; Ken Ditto's show should be included in the new format.Wonderful alternative to the insufferable narcissist, Radnitch.

  21. Totally disagree about JJ & the mouth. Since Bernstein joined that show, he and Sheen have been great. The problem is that Bernstein has basketball and football PxP so he's not there every day. The show is definitely down those days because JJ doesn't even talk (weird).

Otherwise, it's the best show in SF by far.

  22. Have ANY of these newspaper guys ever suggested they would even want to do radio? I could see it as a guest host thing, but just because they have opinions doesn't make them a great host.

What about Scott Reiss? He worked ESPN Radio before coming here.

    Amen.
