After my mild take down of his show on Tuesday, Damon Bruce, (KNBR 1050, Noon- 4 PM,) texted me that "your 'decline story' would be detracted by today at 12: 15."
Bruce was really, really, incredulous that I could write such negative words about his great radio extravaganza. And in addition, that he'd received word from a "biggie" in the biz about hosting a "big show."
Turns out, yes, Bruce will sit in next Wednesday, (9-12 AM) for Jim Rome. (As if Rome were the gold standard of sports-radio talk hosts. This is the guy who has monologues written for him by staffers and takes "callers" who can spout off such visionary prose like, "Hey, Romey dude." Real cool stuff. Good take!)
Dear Damon: I still love you, (metaphorically speaking,) but seriously, a one-time bit to sub for Jim Rome is not enough to place you into the Dan Patrick column. Be happy that you get any attention from someone outside of the butcher boy and Ike in Fremont.
We here at 415 Media, (me) take note of your extraordinary gift to mankind, (excluding A. Larry Baer, B. Raymond Ritter.) and wish you all the luck in your future endeavors. Don't be so damned sensitive otherwise you'll end up hosting Sportsphone 69 from 3 AM-6AM.

*Just because a dim-witted bulb that landed a gig on PIX and now, sister radio-affiliate, KCBS, doesn't change my feelings nor alter my opinion about her. Yeah, high-priestess, Kristy Siefkin is now guessing weather in the morning. Big deal. Maybe they should call the mayor and give her a key to the city.
*The great idiotic melodrama at 900 Front continues...Gene Burns may or may not be back some day soon, (temporarily) at KGO. which doesn't know what or how to run a phucking radio station. Instead of just having alleged opps mgr., Jack Swanson, just go on Ronn Owens and give a short, lucid report to Burns' listeners, the station has played footsie instead.
KGO/Facebook/Twitter/MySpace has a huge identity problem now which could possibly explain why nearly everyone in the building over there is sending out resumes. The Gene Burns fiasco is but one of the many reasons that the former radio biggie is now a colossal joke.
And just wait until Cumulus takes over six months hence.
*The moron east-coast scribbler that wrote that the Giants' fan that got whacked by the LA thugs shouldn't have been wearing a jersey was looking for attention and got it, via the local Internet and TV/radio outlets here in the 415. ReplyDeleteRich, I believe that the Geneva Convention outlawed such inhumane punishment for prisoners.
In addition, I've read recent news stories which stated that some death row inmates have actually chosen to go directly to the electric chair rather than be forced to endure reruns of "7 Live" and "Malou Review."
I just looked at Kristy Siefkin's resume. I don't know that many dim bulbs that graduated Phi Beta Kappa. Just what is it that you don't like?

His stature here is going down because he now goes soft on the local teams managments...on Romes show he can do what he now does on his own show-rip the midwest teams,eastcoast,rip only the out of town sports teams. If Rome listeners want to hear Bruce tear into bay area teams and their owners,they will be sadly dissapointed.

Kristy Siefkin is not a dim-wit. Just a lying, compulsive, manipulative droid seemingly from another planet. She made zero friends at KRON because she was constantly trying to hog the spotlight. Just ask Elaine McKay, Dave Guingona, and Louisa Hodge.
ReplyDeleteShe slighted management as well, as they genuinely wanted her to work for KRON and tended to her needs (ie demands), but she hightailed out of there for KPIX and a BIGGER opportunity. Despite lackluster ratings at the CBS affiliate.
It is a matter of time before she screws KPIX over. In time, you will no longer see Elizabeth Wenger fill-in anchor. Sydnie Kohara better start counting her days. Siefkin is poison, and now PIX's problem.
And to whoever said she is "gorgeous", that is an overstatement. Her looks will soon vanish, and all that will be left is that acidic and benign personality

Kristy has a Master's Degree from the "Academy of Art" whose main source of students hear of it from TV and radio ads. That is hardly a real school.
ReplyDeleteI work at PIX but for the evening, and coworkers have already blasted her for essentially pulling the same routine she probably did at KRON. She seems sweet enough, but there's something a bit off about her, there lacks a true substance in her, and the girl's demeanor is one that is very transparent and forced.

Or, to clarify: people she lied to, stole a job from after learning the trade from that said person, or lied that working fulltime would not fit into her school schedule.
Kristy knew nothing of weather or VJ before she arrived, and hence, they train her in order to give her a job, and she runs away with those skills so she can be a celebrity at a CBS affiliate
KNBR is a joke of a station, run by a bloodless corporation that has no interest in providing public service and is only interested in making money. They proved that when they sent steady vets such as Shrader and McGowan packing a few years back. The station has no crediblity since Cumulus took over the reins in 2006, as they have no..zero..nada reporters out at the Niners, Raiders, Warriors, Giants, Sharks, A's, or any other teams covering the lockerooms or practices to get the important day to day news. Most of their talk shows feature banal, snappy patter and lame frat boy jokes that compell a listener to quickly tune his radio elsewhere. And don't get me started about that weasel Bob Fitzgerald, who sucked up to former GM Tony Salvadore to get on KNBR and then stabbed his buddy Greg Papa in the back to get the Warriors gig. "Pauly Mack," an FM DJ should not be talking sports on a morning show which is unlistenable, especially when the irratating Dan Dibbley comes on the air with his cute, silly remarks, or when "P-Con" checks in to get in his two cents. By the way, can anyone explain to me why KNBR would allow a guy who sounds like he needs to be on meds (is P-Con suffering from attention deficeit? I think so!) even near a microphone? It's embarassing when they put unprofessional, unprepared nit-wits like this guy on the air. Poor marty Lurie onthe weekends! He must be under orders from corporate stooge Lee Hammer to give P-Con some

Lee Hammer couldn't organize his own sock drawer, and folks in the radio industry who have known Hammer for years are still astonished that he's running the show over there, (although he will probably be fired soon to save more money!) KNBR used to be a proud station that set the standard for covering sports in the market, especially in the early years Susquenhenna owned the place (1989-95).
Radnich and his constant referring to "markets" and "our young staff," and "our young demographic" should also be shipped out. He is stealing money and has only a cursory knowledge of what's going on these days. He's more interested in talking about hip-hop or what was on TV last night than sports. Tony Bruno saves that shows from being a complete waste of time.
Ralph sounds old, disinterested and tired, and still doesn't know how to ask a question, and the only guys there who have any credilibility are Woodson and Tolbert. It's a sad state of affairs and I for one, won't listen to this dreck anymore. At least Lou Dickey and his coroporate henchman can't screw up the Giants' broadcasts, but I'm sure they'd try to if they could!
Pix and KCBS will both loathe the day they chose to hire looks in lieu of brains. Yes, Kristi has a "masters" degree--- in Journalism. You need something more, like, I don't know... a Meteorology degree, to be credible for a morning high priestess position. The day we have a major earthquake, Tsunami or other natural disaster, they will see they hired the wrong person for the job, and I will be tuned in and laughing.
ReplyDeleteRich, I don't think you know anything about brain injuries. They can and do take months and years to heal. Gene Burns said he had a brain bleed, which could be a number of things, and the recovery of that is not like a broken arm. 6 weeks in cast and you're good to go.
ReplyDeleteRecovery of brain injuries, not to mention the other injuries Mr Burns suffered, will take longer in a 70-year old man.
I don't think it's in good taste to be discussing his day-to-day recovery. It will be months before Gene is ready to come back, if he wants to.
Siefkin did NOT stab Pero, Baier or KRON GM Greif in the back...she took advantage of the fact that they were willing to undercut, undermine and undervalue their longterm hardworking employees. When they had to make the choice between people who had proven their value and made the effort and a blond girl who looked decent on camera and just repeated the same nonsense they wanted, they went with Siefkin and got burned because of it. Not that they learned anything. Last I knew there was still some cupcake doing occasional weather hits on the morning show because Greif forced the crew to put her on. It's just a shame that people like Guingona, McKay and Hodge got screwed over in the meantime. And didn't James Fletcher used to be an anchor and not doing weather? He was great on that desk, and Darya is still there stammering and shouting. Nobody making decisions at that dump uses logic or merit whatsoever.
ReplyDeleteKristy is getting ahead on bay area TV because of a carefully plotted plan by Aaron Pero, Brian Grief and Stacey Baier. KRON managers nurtured her and coddled her and tried to transform her into their golden ratings ticket. Managers used Kristy as their pawn to get rid of some of their experienced talent... and Kristy let Elaine, Dave and others train "oh, just me, an innocent intern" while they got continually brain-drained and talked to about helping to improve Kristy's on-air performance, only to be let go after molding her into their perfect employee. Now, KRON managers are getting what they deserve. Their "dreamy" blonde used *them* and stabbed *them* in the back as she exits stage left for a better job across town. All I can say, and I think this is how most or of our news department feels... YOU FREAKING DESERVE IT.
ReplyDeleteBefore Kristy Siefkin came to KRON, she knew nothing about the business. Her prior gig was working with mutts (she volunteered with dogs). Management was partially at fault, yes- they did throw seasoned old timers like Guingona and McKay right out the door once Kristy showed interest in those positions. Although management loved her, coworkers hated her (in some cases, more than combined anger toward Pero and Baier themselves). And the funny thing is, viewers hated her, too. The Bay Area is not stupid. They see right through that half-assed attempt to be cute and spunky. She is an idiot, it was known she didn't know how to produce a forecast OR use editing software, and manipulated her way into the doors of PIX. CBS- you can have the bot. She's nothing but leftovers these days.

KPIX sank a while ago. Right after they let go of John Kessler, and then- Tracy Humphrey. Now they steal KRON's damaged goods in the form of an over-blinking weather dunce and their ratings are even worse because of it.
