Today at 10: 30 AM PST, (Tuesday,) KGO's Ronn Owens interviews ex-Defense Sec., Don Rumsfeld, who's been plugging his new book, (which I won't plug.)
Owens chief strength is his interview technique. Closest thing to Mike Wallace and Rummy could use a little pinning down.
I've seen him dodge a few balls on his book tour, but I'm betting Owens will do his darnedest to try to nail down his highness on WMD, Iraq, and a few other things.
We'll be listening
Dumsfeld,is a war criminal by all definitions of the word. Only the evil powers that drive our system protect him. He's the one in a losing war that's one of the first hung on a lamppost by the victors.
ReplyDeleteDare ya to print that...
As I recall, Owens and Jon Rothmann were both for going into Iraq back in 2003. I wonder if they get reminded of that? I'm sure a few people can claim that they were duped by Rummy and the gang but if someone like me saw through the BS, they could too. It is hard to justified the lives of American and international soldiers, Iraqis, and the trashing of a country that didn't have WMD with an "Opps! My Bad!"
ReplyDeleteKSFO had him on last weekend with Barbara Simpson. She promoted that it was going to be 20 minutes but he stayed the entire hour and even took calls from listeners. Much better than Owens' 10 minutes. Link to the podcast is on the front page of their website.
ReplyDeleteRonn's interview with Rummy was excellent. Not softball, but not show-offy abrasive or rude either. He chose to use listener-suggested questions to focus on Rummy's view of things today and the future rather than rehashing Iraq and elusive WMDs. Apart from Rummy's frequent use of "Oh my goodness!", the interview brought out the more interesting and highly intelligent side of Rummy. I was anti-Iraq from the beginning, but have to admit that Rummy is sharp as a tack. Hope I'm 25% as sharp at his age. It was Ronn at his best. Now, if only Ronn had been half as professional, fair-minded and interesting when he did his boorish interview with nemesis Jimmy Carter. JW
ReplyDeleteWhen he appeared on the David Letterman Show he was served nothing but big fluffy softball questions
ReplyDeleteKudos to a previous poster. Lowenstein (Owens' real name) came out as a hungry pitbull when he interviewed Carter. Lowenstein and Rothman were such hawks on Iraq. No credibility at all with the few of us astute ones.
ReplyDeleteJust listened to it. Owens used the first half of his show doing his "I'm the voice of reason" shtick. Going on about how he gets criticized by being too hard or soft on guests. yada yada. We get it Ronn, you are the only one who gets such criticism due to your objectiveness. Give me a break.
ReplyDeleteThen whenever a caller suggests a tough question Ronn tells the caller what Rummy's answer to it would be and why he won't ask it.
Rumsfeld has been well coached and knows that if he can prolong his talking point answers to the predictable questions he can run out of time. He did so when interviewed by Jon Stewart too. He wouldn't be near as jocular if questioned in court about his and his bosses actions.
Main points: Ronn brings up Hamas, Iran and antisemitism(no surprise there), a Rosetta Stone commercial (no Sleep Train), Rumsfeld justifies invasion of Iraq, skirts the 'Why haven't we got Bin Laden question. Then Rummy calls Bin Laden "Obama bin...oops, Osama..."
Nothing original or new. Pretty much it.
