Tom Tolbert Tries Very Hard to Rip Comcast/Sire Lincecum Special...Sort of

KNBR's relatively credible, Tom Tolbert, (ex-Warrior player, ESPN tonsil--part of the "Razor and Mr. T" with Ralph Barbieri, 3-7 PM,) opened Wednesday's show with a mild-smack down of the Comcast SportsNet Bay Area special on Tim Lincecum.

At least he tried to.

"I don't want to rip it, but after 10 minutes there was nothing there for me, " said Tolbert of the special that explored the day in the life at Lincecum's pad. The show was hosted by that noted sporting journalist, Jaymee Sire. (I didn't see the show because I'm not into crib shows and don't have any interests there.)

Barbieri admitted, belatedly, that he saw a portion of the show but fell asleep after awhile. In between you could hear a lot of nervous laughter.

What Tolbert was trying to say, what he really wanted to say, but had to hesitate, was the obvious: the show sucked for the most part, ba ding! He didn't actually say that, I did, but if you listened, you know the deal.

The hesitation alley part was pretty transparent because although Comcast doesn't own KNBR and vice-versa, they're both integral parts of a very well-oiled media machine that is called the SF Giants. And you don't want to mess with that company. Kind of hand-in-hand.

I'll give Barbieri some credit for this line: "Hey, Comcast has a ton of money and they need programming, right?" Tolbert: "Sure do."

'Nuff said.

  1. A recap for those lucky enough to have missed it:
First off it looked like it was filmed on a
cell phone, awkward seeing Lincecum walking around his house being followed by camera person "uh, this is the kitchen, where you cook,
here's the refrigerator, uh.. not much in it because i got back from somewhere doing a thing (opens door, all you see are bottles of muscle
milk). here's my bedroom..uh, there's my bed, this is where I sleep, here's, uh a bathroom, it's a full bath, with, uh, a sink, toilet and shower" that went on for about 15 minutes.
The tour of the gym at his condo association was the same:
"Here is where i exercise, there are machines over here, and some weights. I, uh, come here and exercise, here, on the machines and stuff"

Then he drives Sire to a taqueria in the suburbs (she's overdressed, he's in a hoodie and tee) and she asks him some fluff questions.

    ta da

  2. Rich and others: Wow okay was holding this inside most of the morning. Their promos and at Urban's assistance I did something I never do: Arive home by 8pm to watch even though I knew there would be replays.
This presentation was horrible. Sire was/is much better during the Giants run to the Pennant and WS and is okay in studio. The poster above nailed it. Cell phone camera-ish; Herky Jerky at best. No sign of Jaymee at the beginning until ~ ~
We met his friend Drew and again Cy the dog but this was a waste of a plane ticket for her and her camera crew.

    Very very very poor production

  3. Doesn't Tolbert do ads for Comcast cable? Something about biting the corporate hands that feeds him?

  5. Anything related to the Giants these days is pretty sleazy. They need to get over their massive little man complex.

  6. Radnich pretty much called her dumb as a log when he once said that "She at least knows how to read the questions producers write for her".
She must have called him Grandpa Gary to be on his bad side so openly.
