A KGO-TV remote crew, (reporter Tomas Roman and photographer, Stan Wong,) were mugged while covering a story Thursday night in Oakland.
Wong was pistol-whipped and his mini-camera was stolen. He was taken to a local hospital and released. Roman was unhurt.
This marks the second time in less than a year one of KGO's crews was physically assaulted. Two crews came under attack and one was robbed during the Mehserle verdict riots, also in Oakland last July.
It should be noted while other stations hired security for the Mehserle rioting, KGO did not. They reportedly now hire security at events where trouble may occur.
Thankfully no one was seriously hurt. I’m not surprised other stations hired security for coverage after the Mehserle verdict; especially when you consider how they attempted to foment violence with their coverage. Special mention goes to KRON.
ReplyDeleteI tell ya...that Sarah Palin is trouble.
ReplyDeletegee Rich, reporting violence in the city of Oakland - I thought that wasn't your style, at least without pointing out how bad other places are in the Bay Area (namely SF)...
ReplyDeleteRadnich along with his two evil twins will make fun of this come Monday morning...
