Peter B. Collins substitutes on KGO Radio

A breath of fresh air.

Peter B. Collins has been substituting on KGO Radio this week. You may remember Collins in his days at the old KNBR and later stints on Air America and Green 960.

He's remarkably fresh and a terrific interviewer; it would be great if KGO would give him a fulltime gig.

  1. Hate to be off subject BUT this was hillarious. Ray Woodson goes on the air I think yesterday and says there is misinformation about something he supposedly said a couple of days before. He tries to clear it up as best he could and then hear is the RUB and I kid you not.
First caller's handle is HAMMER and OMG this guy goes on to gush about how Ray should get the gig.
The next caller (cant rememeber maybe Eric) and he piggy backs "Hammer"....
When the caller Hammer was on Ray repeated "Hammer" about a dozen times....
Woodson ended the mea culpa before the callers by say "we all know that Lee Hammer ONLY hires radio geniuses"...
There has to be an inside joke there somewhere...

  2. I would much prefer to hear Peter B in the Gene Burns 7-10 PM slot as opposed to Pat Thurston. Pat is good, but not 'prime time' good. She could use more... well... growth in a permanent radio slot (for lack of a better term), before she becomes 'groomed' for a prime time slot. Peter B is polished and ready for prime time. The people who are feeling all good about themselves to possibly have a woman radio host, full time, on KGO really needs to get a life. The management needs to skip the talk show host affirmative action BS maneuvering and put someone on that is both intellectual AND polished (like Peter B for example). Because if the host is not pleasing enough to listen to (opinions aside) on a regular basis, then those numbers on the radio dial get changed, it's that simple. Sadly, I predict that KGO would rather experiment with falling ratings before they see the light (IMHO).

  3. Totally agree with the above post. Peter B. sounds fabulous and he always has. Heard him filling in for Ray the other night and it was so refreshing actually hearing CONTENT in that time slot. While both Pat and Christine are fine as fill ins, they really don't have the "wow" factor needed to carry a show. Peter B. is compelling radio...hopefully they will notice over at 810.

  4. I hope Gene can return, but have enjoyed listening to Peter B. Collins. His liberalism and insightful commentary provide a breath of fresh air in the staid KGO community. A considerably superior host to Pat Thurston, thank you.

  5. I discovered Peter B. the other morning and could not fall asleep. I did not want to miss a word he said. He is so smooth, speaks with such clarty and knows his history. I wish he would become a permanent host. I do like Pat thurston very much. She may not be as polished as peter b. but she is a challenging hostess and has great guests. I do think we need more women and their perspectives.

  6. Peter B. Collins is not only polished, articulate, intelligent, well-informed, he is also a mature host who does not lose his cool as Gene Burns does. Gene's rude and often vitriolic comments and loss of composure are unbecoming for a KGO Host of Gene's stature. I end up turning him off. I think Peter B. Collins should take over th3 7:00 to 1000 P.m. spot. Another point is that Gene discusses the same subject for 2-3 hours, and this is extremely tiring for the listener. Most of Gene's comments are redundant. Not so with Peter B. Collins, a real class act
