'7Live' doomed at KGO-TV; Ratings worse than VFB

"7-Live", ABC7's local early-afternoon program hosted by Brian Copeland,  has plateaued at a poor ratings mark that didn't even match that of "View From The Bay", the show it replaced, and they're stuck with it since they signed it for 2 years. KGO-TV upper brass doesn't care for the show and say regular folks are complaining it's just a commercial for the 5 pm news.

Furthermore, said an insider, "They, (Channel 7) stuck it in the 'death valley' time slot; the only people watching are unemployed or housewifes in Millbrae."

And that a block of near-total news there from 3-7 pm won't work.

They also bitched about the two airhead "yentas" co-hosting with Copeland saying how annoying they are, in particular the "dumb brunette."

How doomed is "7Live?" KGO has a judge show in place ready to go just as soon they get a clearance and Oprah exits the picture.

  1. Even housewives in Millbrae don't watch, they're picking up their kids from school at that hour!

  2. Brian Copeland is always great (though better on radio), but the show just seems so contrived and awkward, at least the clips I have seen.

  3. I salute KGO for treating the bay area like a large cosmopolitan area that it is..but thats a time for schlock. And the show is pretty much 1968 Pipa, 1986 People are Talking, and every other bay area bred talk show. Mild.
They need something more wild. Like a teen reality show with that confrontatonal drama, who's pregnant and all that, with a bay area slant. Not that I would watch, its just what I see as a ratings maker.
Something to make new stars. 2 cents.

  4. The set reminds me of the 'Mayor Art' show from the mid to late 60's.

  5. I disagree with the dumb brunette remark. Elizabeth Bermudez is the only thing GOOD about the show! Seeing her in high heels is enough to make the coach of the Minnesota Vikings salivate!

  6. With offical titles as the "pop culture contributor" and "social media contributor" will lead to being called 'airheads"

Wouldn't that be the NY Jets coach sailvating over a woman in heels?

  7. If "KGO-TV upper brass doesn't care for the show" then how the heck did it ever get the thumbs up for airing in the first place? Realistically, upper brass had a hand in approving the program for airing, did they not? Now it seems as if they're finger pointing about this debacle of a show to others within the organization. Maybe "upper brass" should be lead out the back door as well...

  8. I saw Michael Finney hosting that show and I liked it.

  9. Excuses, excuses! There is only one reason "7 Live" has low ratings. The show is pathetic. It makes "View From the Bay" look like "Regis & Kelly." What a sad attempt at a local tv show. ABC should take the show down the road to their Fresno station.. although, on second thought, the show is even too low rent for Fresno.

  10. The show is unwatchable. Brian Copeland has misogynistic tendencies, makes " cat fight" sounds when his co host have disagreement, acts like the old SNL Caveman Lawyer when Lizzy does her job, reporting on fashion or celebs. He makes fun of her stories then mugs into the camera, " Hey, what do I know, I'm just a regular guy!" How can either co host do their jobs with such an un supportive and sarcastic lead? Lizzy doesn't come off as an air head, she seems embarrassed and horrified, like a mother of poorly behaved children. The Bay Area is well educated and cultured and Jennifer Jolly is out classed. Baby talking, using old Astin Powers jokes, saying "Way Cool" is embarrassing. No doubt, the all time low was Jennifer Jolly's comment about a KKK snowman, hands on hips in mock mad," Not Cool!"
Lizzy isn't an Air Head, she's horrified.

  11. Haven't watched it. I like Brian very much on radio and in person but was really surprised when he and his KGO radio colleagues started talking up the show while it was in development. The time slot and Brian in that role just didn't add up to me. He does best flying solo. Fortunately for Brian, his career isn't tied to any one gig.

  12. Again, I will say that I like the show. Maybe this time the post will go through. Some people in the Bay Area are intolerant snobs and I see how someone like Jolly would offend people who think they represent the height of sophistication. When you look at which television shows receive accolades and which don't, it's no wonder television is such a mess. 7 Live doesn't depend on cooking, crafts, childrearing advice and relationship claptrap. What a refreshing change. It deals with topical issues. It could use polishing but it is far more watchable than the show that it replaced.

Copeland is a comedian, of course he is going to mug and take shots at his co-hosts. That's what he does. Neither women strike me as airheads. I don't get what all the vitriol is about.

  13. This show is an abomination, and even a "Test of the Emergency Broadcast System" would get better ratings.

Copeland is okay but his two sidekicks are dingbats. I don't watch the show often but happened to be home one afternoon last week and I saw Elizabeth Bermudez attempt to interview the comic Anjelah Johnson. What should have been a hilarious exchange instead was pure drudgery and Johnson had a look on her face like she couldn't get out of that studio fast enough.

Bermudez is a news reader and nothing more, and she doesn't have the interview skills to bring out the best in that kind of guest. In place of laughter you could hear crickets in the studio. Bad TV all around.

  14. Occasionally I have the TV tuned to Channel 7 from the night before and when I may work from home and absently turn it on....I have caught this hot mess a total of four times (four times too many and I need to change after the news). Along with many of the other posters I agree that Brian is a fool who belittles the woman and his guests. His schtick is just stupid. Clearly he is the worst thing about that show and it would at least be interesting to see the woman play with out his overbearing lead. At least with Spencer, Janelle and Nick there was professionalism and mutual respect and view-ablility. KGO please pull the plug, pay off the contracts or run the show at 2:00am when we are all asleep...UGH! All hope is gone.

  15. Frankly, this show is not my cup of tea either. However, I find the mean-spirited comments on this page extremely off-putting.

  16. I too disagree with the dumb brunette remark and also with that "7 Live" is an abomination. I too agree that it is way better than what it replaced. I hated VBTB. Couldn't watch that show long enough. I love "7 Live." It is a way that I get caught up on the news of the day.

I don't get why people are attacking this show.

  17. I liked VFTB, and miss it. It was warm, friendly and had some great personalities on it.
7Live is horrible. I had a pass to be in the audience and turned it down.
With View from the Bay, you could leave it on as background, or watch it in the nail or hair salon and be happy, 7Live grates on me like the horrible "The View". I ask salons to change the channel if those shows are on.
It just does not work at all. It is clunky, contrived and BORING as heck.
Very badly conceived program. Why the heck didn't they do the normal thing and test it out first before signing a 2 year contract?

  18. Yeah the show is bland but Lizzie Bermudez is so beautiful. I had a huge crush on her 9 years ago when she did channel 7 news on the morning time
