NBC: Delay in Comcast Takeover

NBC has told its staffers that the proposed deal by Comcast to buy a controlling interest will be delayed and not be consummated by the end of the year.

The full story here, as outlined by the NY Times.

Will this affect the local NBC Bay Area outlet with Comcast? I'll be on the phones.

Stay tuned.

  1. If it were up to me I'd like to see the FCC kill this deal. Only need to look at how Comcast doesn't play fair with their channels as it is, currently DirecTV and Comcast are fighting over G4, Golf Channel, and 3 CSN channels. Comcast has all but refused to share CSNPhillie with any other "Nat'l" type distriubtor (Dish and DirecTV). I'd be truly scared what would happen if they gain control of NBC, Weather Channel, MSNBC, USA, etc.

  2. I agree, there is no way that any large cable or satellite distributor should be allowed to own such a large content provider. How is this different than the movie studios being forced to divest their theatre chains in 1948? It really doesn't matter how bad Comcast is as a provider of services, and God knows they are very bad, we need separation of content providers and content distributors. After all, the networks themselves have limits on how many owned stations they allowed.

  3. Comcast's business plan is world conquest, and they are achieving their benchmarks. As a Comcastaway from another big merger, my best wishes to the NBC folks. Seriously, Steve Burke, the Comcast COO who will become CEO of NBC Universal, is an incredibly sharp operator, and he will make NBC better.

  4. Please pass on this link and email the FCC with congressman Bernie Sanders to stop this ridiculous merger from eventually controlling everything we see on tv and the internet.
