Do you care that Tracy Humphrey is leaving? Neither do I

Here's a release from KPIX:

"Tracy Humphrey to Leave CBS 5 Eyewitness News Early Morning Edition and Noon News and host of Bay Sunday effective 1/13/11.  She is initially moving to Paris to study French at the Sorbonne.   “It’s something that I always wanted to do.  A great opportunity to get to know the culture and language." says Tracy Humphrey.

Translation from moi: Trace, you didn't register a blip on the radar, had a very annoying voice, and any money we can squeeze to trim the bottom line is good for the company.

  1. No way? Bummer. I had a crush on her. I'm tired of all the weather girls looking the same. Tracy was at least a little fun and cultured.

    Our loss.....

  2. Sure I do-she is like a bay area tradition of the big eyed, cute, petite black weather woman with short hair. From the late Beverly Johnson to Janet Huff and now Tracy. Darndest thing because I just saw her the other day on the telly after not catching her 'casts for weeks..and just thinking of that tradition. And they even all spoke with that perky talk.
    Ce la vie!

  3. I agree. I liked Trac on-air and personally. And I had np [roblem with her voice at all Rich! Be nice!

  4. I will second that emotion from the first person who posted here: I also thought Tracy Humphrey was adorable and I enjoyed her on the newscast. She'll be missed.

Here's who I would NOT miss if they vanished tomorrow:

    1. Pneumatic-chested Darya of KRON infamy
    2. Dave Clark: perpetually angry KTVU anchor
    3. Henry's Garden
    4. Those two dingbat co-hostesses on 7-Live

  5. I actually like Tracy too, I find her refreshing, and a breath of fresh air. It seems like all the "good ones" are leaving KPIX.

  6. I agree Anony. I liked her better than main weather girl Garcia who used to the mornings. She was so annoying.

  8. Here's who I wouldn't miss if they left tomorrow:

Dayra and pretty much everyone on KTVU, except for Ken Wayne, Maureen Naylor, and possibly one or two others.

  9. I heard Heather Holmes is leaving KTVU. If that is true, TV will be difficult to watch. If they let go of Jade Hernandez, I'll quit watching TV period!

  10. A little rough, Rich...she projected a warm personality, kept working on a degree in meteorology (on top of her Syracuse Master's) and built a fan base of her own (as evidenced by her Facebook following). As mentioned elsewhere, she is warm and approachable, for example, sending me emails about Alabama football, clothes/shoes, Bay Area byways, and other interests. I'd take her over Roberta Gonzales and that Carmen Miranda act any day. I see it as a loss of an up-and-comer with the chops to land a network slot someday. Looks like she's wearing a ring lately, so Paris may be just part of the changes she is making in 2011.

  11. Maybe she's being aloof, and going to Paris for a vacay but then returning to the States with an even higher profile job in weather/news? Or maybe she's engaged, going to settle down and have some babies? How old is she anyway?

  12. I enjoyed Tracy's tenure and felt when she got out and did the weather from a ballpark or other location it brought out her sexy personality and she is extremely watchable. Oh well.

  13. I'm crushed I adore tracy I love waking up to her weather report every morning, she's cute and smart, I wish her all the best. My wife will be glad she's gone, but not me.

  14. Her birthday: June 19, 1972, according to Wikipedia. Getting close to 40, and maybe the body clock is ticking. But the bet here (suggested by Rich's initial comments) is that management made the call, based on finances and ratings. Reports of her hiring in 2007 put the contract date in December, suggesting that this year's negotiations led to a parting of the ways.

  15. Rich Lieberman you really should light'n up and cut this beautiful and talented lady some slack. It's hard for me to believe that you actually mean what you say but instead just trying to get improve viewership to this useless blog. We love Tracy and appreciate her talent. She's not your typical bay area weather clone. Perhaps you feel stuck in your career and are actually a bit envious of this lady! Phil!

  16. Tracy you go girl! Have fun in Paris. Profites de la vie!

  17. Tracy was great. CBS 5 Morning Edition currently has no energy, no chemistry-basically unwatchable.
CBS 5 news department is like a revolving door. What a mess..

  18. I just hope I don't have to look at Robert Lyles every morning - that guy is so full of himself!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Personally she annoyed the hell out of me. She'd start talking about the coming weekend on Monday. She had horrible taste in clothes too. Hope she has a good time in Paris. Who wouldn't?

  20. I found out on tv jobs..saw her job listed. I will be sending my dvd asap. PLEASE HIRE ME ND!!!

Seriously, that's where I found out. I thought she had great chemistry with Juliette Goodrich.

    This biz is brutal.

A poster asked about Heather Holmes..YES she is leaving. Does anyone know what she did to upset management? I saw a link about an Oscar Grant story but none of the links work.

Someone mentioned Jade. It annoys me how she NEVER refers to Tori by her name. Jade looks WAY too serious. She annoys me. David Stevenson is also stiff...as is Mike Mibach. I turn the channel whenever Mike is on..he looks SO uptight. YUCK!

Another one to keep an eye on is that Lyanne Melendez on abc 7. She was snide to Cheryl Jennings the other day live from the canal search. Cheryl asked a question and Lyanne said something the effect "If you've been following this story" ...I gasped...I may even email Cheryl.

  21. Why the brutal comment Rich? IS it because she isn't blonde with large 'assets' like Christina Loren? Whenever Christina is on I change the channel. She comes across as very unprofessional. Is this what the News Director wants? Bay Area morning news is dismal - I guess I will have try the ABC affiliate.

  22. You people are bashing Rich...but his comment(s) weren't THAT harsh. YOU guys should lighten up. And, in case you're wondering, YES I liked Tracy.

She's a lot better than that annoying Roberta Gonzalez...she and Dana King are more annoying than nails on a chalkboard....YUCKO!!!!

  23. I think John Kessler and Tracy Humphrey had more personality than the rest of the newscasters! Why do they always let the good ones go? Hopefully they'll find a better place than KPIX to work! The news is SO boring. Diana

  24. I wish Tracy Humphrey and John Kessler were back! Worth waking up for!

    ReplyDelete
  25. someone called Dave Clark angry...no one questioned Dennis Richmond when he ALWAYS looked angry. I was sick to my stomach reading comment on the chronicle website about him when he retired..what a pompous ass...I met him when I was still in school in Oakland. I told him I wanted to be a reporter and asked what I should major in (LOTS of reporters chose majors other than journalism),,,,he just kept walking and told me "mass communications...mass communications"...and kept walking. Was a jerk!

Why aren't people complaining about Mike Mibach or Ken Pritchett looking serious.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I really hope the reason for Tracy's departure was for personal reasons and not because CBS5 has decided that another of our favorite newscasters would not be missed or for MONEY. The morning show is not the same without John Kessler and Tracy Humphrey...booorrring. Poor Elizabeth Winger WOW, lets hope she goes back to reporting traffic. Syndie will have to hold it down for the morning group unfortunately I wont be watching

Tracy and John YOU ARE MISSED

    ReplyDelete
  27. WOW I got back this week and turned on Tracy for the weather like I do every weekday when I'm in town....
It's taken me all week to find out she's gone for good!!!!
I can't believe KPIX got rid of yet another interesting, intelligent, non-cookie-cutter woman.
Maybe management is looking for the stereotypical 'weather girl'?
Perhaps they would be happier with another Christina Loren clone?
I imagine they'll be showing Sydnie Kohara to the door next, sigh

  28. I'd been wondering where Tracy was - I was always happy to hear her on KCBS in the a.m. My greatest fear is "No Tracy, More Roberta." We can no longer watch the evening news on KPIX because of Roberta. There was a time when Roberta was a decent reporter and had a nice persona. Now, she dresses badly (short skirts, tight bodices, and an overall trashy look), scary makeup (lose the mole, it is NOT a beauty mark). Her weather reporting is so-so and no more accurate nor entertaining than others in the local market, and the competition is not especially star material. Overall, the forecast reliability in this market is pretty dismal. And when she gets a chance to ad lib or engage in conversation with the news anchors, she becomes giddy and silly. Oh, and all the stuff about her athletic pursuits is SSSOOOOOOO annoying. Sorry, I know we're talking about missing Tracy, which I do, but her absence also directs attention to those who remain.

  29. Wow, first John Kessler, now Tracy Humphrey. I wonder how much more bland the KPIX news can get. Tracy has a great on air personality that never seemed plastic. I'm glad she's moving on to better thngsI always assume people are on vacation until they are gone more than a couple weeks. ...

If Elizabeth Wenger moves on, I'll be watching something else.

  30. I must agree with most of the anons. John Kessler and Tracy Humphrey equal great on-air personalities, way above the norm. Rich, if these are your decisions, check the mail daily for your own pink slip. You deserve it.

  31. I really enjoyed watching Tracy in the morning and John Kessler I'm happy that Tracy is doing something she wants to do. Good Luck to her and I now listen to talk radio and I feel like if you don't anything nice to say, don't say anything!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  32. I always found her to be annoying, although attempting sweetness. Her weather forecasts were often wrong and seemed to have no depth or thought behind them. Her phrasing often was lifted right out the National Meteorological Society's daily verbage.
Although a minor point if you hadn't heard her daily, she used the phrase "plenty of" in every, single forecast I heard. She seemed not to know meteorology to the depth of Roberta or Lawrence--and in checking her bio she wasn't even a licensed meteorologist! "Has 20 college credits, etc"!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Tracy was an excellent weatherperson. I really look forward to hearing her weather reports at noon each week day. I missed her dearly. The noon news isn't the same.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I agree with most of the posters, first John was unceremoniously dismissed because of "wanting to appeal to a younger audience"...PFFT!Yeah right, like young people are even awake at 5 a.m.
Now Tracy is gone and with her the cheerful personality, clever rapport with the other news staff, and of course sweet smile!

To answer this guy's question,YES!I DO CARE that Tracy Humphrey is gone and apparently this time, maybe for the first time,YOU'RE in the minority!

  35. Never posted in my life but I've had enough of the stupid decisions kpix morning news has been making. My 11 year old daughter and I always enjoyed our mornings with John Kessler and Tracy. We've moved on to channel 2 now. Can't stand Wenger trying to act grown up by doing the news.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I will miss Tracy, she has a great butt. Now I'll get my dose of meterologist hotties by Christina Loren on ch 11 in the AM and Jacquline Bennett ch 4 pm.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I always found Tracy very refreshing.
Chanel 5 mornings have gotten weaker with both John and Tracy gone. Watch MSNBC in a.m. now.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Tracy was great. Happy and relaxed and easy to watch. I still can't believe they got rid of John Kessler.. someone that didn't just stupidly read the news and regurgitate it for us, but actually questioned things and made comments.. he could actually think!

Of the remaining folks, I like Elizabeth Wenger, but they never know what to do with her.

John Mallicoat is just plain dull.. He takes himself way to seriously.

  39. I MISS TRACY!
    SunRae

    ReplyDelete
  40. Tracy is that breath of fresh morning air breeze still unheated by the Sun that traveled across a wide untouched plain,
She is that candy you ran to steal (i mean buy) every time Sunday class dragged on & on & on then ended.
Tracy is the sweet young lady next door that blossoms into a foxy woman yet doesn't flaunt it and every other woman that passes by you, you subconsciously compare to and Tracy always wins.
So do i miss her when she left CBS5 , nope.
Why? cause i'm in NYC and "MISSING her" when she moved on to SF from NYC was hard enough, i know i know its only TV but still she was the perfect lady;' sexy, interactive, open to any type of joke i.e. "one of the guys" in the body of woman with multiple attractive features.
1 more time and i think i'd get a heart attack. Therefore i hope she does what she luvs and if she goes on air somewhere if she just remains "herself" i'll have to watch as she's good for ones HDL.

  41. I wish Tracy Humphrey and John Kessler were back, I turned off 5 after they brought back their stupid blonds, channel 5 newscast is written for 5 year old's

    ReplyDelete
  42. KCBS 5 got rid of the only people that brought some humor and a down to earth atmosphere to the morning, Sydnie, John and Tracy. Every time I look at the new cast, I fall right back to sleep, thank god for the snooze button.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Tracy was wonderful with a great sense of humor, Now Sydnie and Tray are gone, program is dead beat, changing morning news!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Glad to learn that Tracy wasn't fired. She was the major draw for me in the morning. Happy, funny, professional. She's pretty lucky to get to go to Paris to learn to speak French! But, I sure do miss her. As good a meteorologist as Lawrence is, the station has fallen apart since Tracy left. John and Sydney....good riddance. But, it's just not the same. Elizabeth needs to be in the anchor spot. That might make things right again.
