A's want to buy KTRB, but...The latest

The A's want to purchase KTRB, but are they willing to overpay in case outside bidders, (like religious and/or ethnic-moneyed broadcasting companies like Family Radio, for example) are willing to overpay?

Probably not.

Then again, the A's need to make a move fast and getting a radio broadcast deal done would presumably be a high priority for an organization that has skipped all over the dial the past few years to a point where most of the fan base simply doesn't know where to find them.

The A's and KTRB agreed to a 10-year contract in November, 2009, well before the radio station's debtors, (from Pappas Broadcasting) shut down operations in September.

The current station is in a broadcast dire straits with only a handful of programs and intermittent dead air, (the station signs off at sundown)

The asking price of KTRB is believed to be in the area of $12 million, but that figure doesn't include a plethora of debt inheritance.

  1. I think-the Fishers have more than enough to buy that 50,000 watts competition to KNBR, BUT,it would behoove the east bay,Oakland, and the Raiders to have the RAIDERS be co-owners to offer a true balance to KNBR's blatant bias. Heck, maybe one day wrestle the Warriors to that eastbay station too.
btw,I caught Dan Dibby doing some Raider talk on Comcast at 5.I swear to all that's holy,he said more about the Raiders in opinion and amount of words than he has in his whole KNBR on air time since he started there. Shocking really.

  2. The A's desperately need to shore-up a radio station like KTRB.
Make a competive bid and get the job done.

  3. The A's need to buy KTRB and get the station running right...no more off air at sundown, expand Chris Townsend's presence on the station...he has been the best thing that has happened with A's Talk Radio in a long long time..It would also make sense to add the Raider's to the programming and to keep Stanford Football. The Raider's have also moved around a lot on the radio dial and need a stable home!

  4. BREAKING NEWS: KTRB WAS ON THE AIR TILL 9:24PM LAST NIGHT. Haha, I think this sets a record for the last 45 days. It was college football talk then it abruptly turned into the night time Spanish station we have learned to love.

Someone please clean up that mess of a station quick

Lee Hammer should bring over JJ and the Mouth to 1050, perhaps after DBruce, I think it is a good show but I believe that with all this dead air people must be listening to the station less and less.
