"KGO needs a full-time 'Monday-Friday' talk-show host--I know I'm ticking off management, but that's how I feel, said Owens during his second hour on Monday's show.
I agree.
In fact, if KGO wants to begin to get back some of its cred, it already has a very capable stable of women contributors, including Pat Thurston and Christine Craft.
Here's my suggestion: move Thurston from the early-morning wee hours to 4-7PM when the Afternoon News is axed.
So simple.
Here's a radical idea- KNBR dumps Fritz and Giggles and hires Kate Scott to do a mid-day sports talk show.
ReplyDeleteConsidering the aging of KGO's talkers and management, contract expirations, and inevitable post-Mickey erosion of local autonomy, KGO could be in for tons of changes. We KGO listeners are spoiled and should enjoy it while we can.
ReplyDeleteChristine Kraft? Politics aside, she is as pompous as Wattenberg, not the active listener a host needs to be either.
ReplyDeleteThurston is very good, so was Shawn Nix.
Whatever happened to Shawn?
ReplyDeleteAgreed, Thurston is good and Kraft just doesn't do it for me.
neither of those two women could carry their own show. They had Bernie's shift vacant forever and they all had a run at it but weren't strong enough to be hired. It would be a disaster putting either in the pm news slot.
ReplyDeleteACtually both Pat and I have had our own shows..quite successfully in other markets..I was at KFBK back in it's heyday..as the afternnon liberal foil to Rush..The ratings were double what they are there now..and I received large bonuses for adding many ratings points to the afternoon slot..I was in law school then..and have worked at a heritage law firm in Sacramento for the last few years..adjusting my full time schedule to work one week a month during the Bernie situation..driving in from sac and back each day of those five day shifts. It was a gas....but, I did and do have a full time career as a lawyer representing workers and the disabled..Kgo for the last seventeen years has always been icing on the cake for me. Pat is an accomplished host with the best bumpers in the biz and the mom of young triplets.. I don't how the current ratings are for the ten oclock spot..but I always listen ...unless I have an early hearing the next morning..cheers from the hustings/
