Mickey Luckoff has just resigned at KGO.
The news was relayed to me by a KGO source. Already, the spin machine is in full cycle--the SF Business Times reports that Luckoff simply felt it was time to go. Ditto, SF Chronicle.
My sources are telling me that Luckoff was forced out. Granted, KGO is losing tons of cred and has been in a freefall, but there's way, way more to this story.
Luckoff has been the VP and GM for KGO for over 40 years.
Developing story...
Forty years but what have you done for me lately...
ReplyDeleteI love listening to Ronn, he's the best, and Gene on Saturdays. The computer guy on Sundays is fine. David Lizzard mouth turns my stomach and Gil Gross causes me to throw up
ReplyDeleteOne other thing Rich. I use to enjoy reading your blog on the gate, and then you were gone. The rest of the people on "bright lights" are lame. Come back Rich. You have real spirit
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure what your sources are, but Mickey fought long and hard to keep this station going. He axed the helicopter to keep as many of the staff as possible.
ReplyDeleteHe really is a class act and those of us who worked for him are in tears tonight.
The bean counters have been destroying journalism for sometime. Mickey stood at the gates and did his best to keep them out.
Standard corporate procedure: "You might want to resign before we can fire you. Looks better on your resume."
ReplyDeleteI saw it happen to an old General Manager I worked for. Once the economy went sour, his previous 8 years of growth were ignored. Then we spent the next 5 years with a revolving door of GMs until the company thought better to lower their expectations in a bad and changing economy. Eventually, all papers and employees were terminated.
But 40 years? One can look on that as "Too long" or "Decades of Success. Better treat him right". How many of us are lucky to have a job for decades? We'd sure like to but the job market is such out there where we bounce from employer to employer every few years, sadly.
Regardless, Luckoff did good for a lot of years. Well done, Mickey!!
Reminds me of how Lee Rodgers was dumped at KSFO. I guess what goes around does indeed come around.
ReplyDeleteAnyone with half a mind could see this coming when KGO let a racist teabagger nut sub for Ray T a few nights ago.
ReplyDeleteWonder who'll be next to go? Sad times.....
Is there anyway to get the truth? Does anyone have a place to find out why he was allowed to resign.
ReplyDeleteThis station doesn't sound like WCBS!
