All you really need to know is that the Giants rule the town right now, from the radio and TV to the Internet and beyond, and that's OK, because you all want it and the people that count, don't have any problem giving you Buster, Juan, Larry Baer and Steve Perry lip-syncing "Lights" at AT&T Park.
**Sorry to slightly belabor the point, but KCBS' popular John Madden segment took a big hit on the credibility meter, as Madden's continued silence on the Brett Favre matter and KCBS' apparent complicity makes for a sorry story.
Madden is king and has a long admiration list, but KCBS owes its listeners some form of respect. You would hope that news judgement and credibility trumps even a big celebrity like Madden, but that's apparently not the case at the CBS radio affiliate.
Madden doesn't have to talk about the Favre issue, (even though ESPN, the NY Times, the NFL Network and just about every other news and sports outlet has reported on the matter) and a simple one-sentence statement read by Stan Bunger could have diffused the whole thing....something to the effect of "John Madden doesn't feel it's appropriate for him to comment on the 'Brett Favre situation."
Fine. Matter, if not entirely what we want to hear, at least acknowledged.
Instead, we hear nothing. Not a thing.
I was told that Madden simply doesn't want to address Favre due to the tawdry nature of the story, (which now Favre admits to leaving voicemail messages to an ex-NY Jets in-house field reporter, but denying he sent pictures of his genitals to her)
Again,KCBS and Madden are partners on a very lucrative and popular segment and don't want to get involved in this issue; pardon me for making the case that the radio station known for its news cred blew it here.
Just my opinion.
Excellent point.
ReplyDeleteThe "all news leader" is NOT.
Yes, this is "just your opinion"...but I think you better look elsewhere for justification of your conspiracy theory.
ReplyDeleteAs for the notion that KCBS blew their "news cred"...don't you think they'd lose even more of what you refer to as "cred" is they chose to turn the Madden segment into a local version of TMZ.com?
Please. Get off the rant...and you're welcome to get back onboard the Giants bandwagon.
To me, there's not much of story there to begin with. The guy sends suggestive voicemail and/or photos to some chick. Whoopee. Why do you think this story is so danged important anyway? Who cares? Boring.
ReplyDeleteDo you actually have trouble discerning the difference between KCBS' news segments and the thing with Madden and Bunger? The fact that they haven't slimed themselves by getting into this is a GOOD thing.
ReplyDeleteFirst, the Favre thing is a non-story. No criminal action of any kind. Second, the Madden segment is not NEWS. It's light-hearted banter that doesn't owe anyone anything. Jeez...
ReplyDeleteOf course not everyone is the bastion of objective journalistic integrity that you profess to be.
