Ronn Owens is the bastion of moderation, but on his Monday morning KGO Radio show, he suddenly dashed way right. It was slightly, uh, shocking really.
Speaking about the tea-party folks, he ventured an off the cuff remark about Prez Obama and the birther movement. (I thought that really was so yesterday)
"Ok, if I'm Barack Obama and I had this hanging over my head...'I mean, wouldn't he just show it, (birth certificate)?" OMG.
Say what? Ronn, it's on the Internet. Beyond that, several folks at the hospital in Hawaii where he was born, have already said there's no smoking gun, (in fact, the same hospital where Rusho had his heart worked on.)
To be fair, Owens didn't come out full head on and question Obama's birthplace. It sounded like an extemporaneous remark, but when you begin to tread waters in that area, its a bit disturbing, so well, very un-Ronn like.
I'm going to give Ronn a mulligan here. I don't believe he's a Glenn Beckian nor do I care, but I do admit I was a tad jolted.
UPDATE: Owens responds--
"You're right.
I pointed out it's been available since 2008.
But I also said I'd post it at the entrance to the White House to
shut everyone up.
No, I haven't gone birther."

My Conservative friends still joke about wanting to see a birth certificate to which I usually respond that we'll see a Birth certificate before we see the Weapons of Mass Destruction. But then a simple Google search shows that it is out there (among all the joke ones).
ReplyDeleteEither they don't know how to do a simple Google search or they simply wish to believe what they want or create their own set of "facts" like Obama is a Socialist or a Muslim. It is part of the old political playbook of telling a Lie long enough and Loud enough and people start to believe it. It seems Ron got pulled into the lie as well.
When will Ron run out of the last 20 years worth of material he's been using for the last 30?
ReplyDeleteGlad to see I wasn't the only one who was taken aback by Ronn's comments. If I had been a first-time listener, I would have concluded that he was at least a fence-sitter on the birther issue. Ronn's interview with Markos of the Daily Kos also showed Ronn's more conservative side. Loved it when Markos had to explain to the the "businessman" caller that, if you gross $250k and spend $240k, your income for tax purposes is $10k, not $250k.
ReplyDeleteI think KGO's looking at a format change. When I turned on the radio Sunday night to listen to Ray and heard Mark Williams, I actually went to the bathroom and washed my face with cold water. I thought I was hallucinating!
ReplyDeleteHere is the birther argument.
ReplyDelete1. A computer printout that satisfies legal requirements does exist.
2. The director of the Hawaii department of health says there is an original birth certificate generated around the time of birth that is not the same. http://hawaii.gov/health/about/pr/2009/09-063.pdf
3. The director will not allow this other document to be seen.
