Anna Werner out at KPIX/CBS5; Investigative Reporter, latest to leave 855 Battery

CBS5/KPIX-TV Investigative reporter, Anna Werner, is the latest to have been let go at the CBS outlet.

No official reason was given, but a reliable broadcast source tells me it was a "financial move."

News director, Dan Rosenheim, confirmed to me, via e-mail, that Werner was "no longer at the station."

Werner's departure is the second big-name talent to leave 'Pix; Hank Plante retired last March.

Werners' tenure at Channel 5 won her numerous NorCal Emmys; Werner and producer/photographer Gerard K. Watson tied for the most honored local individuals by taking home four statuettes in 2010.

  1. Honestly Rich, I wouldn't say she was a "big-name" talent in San Francisco any more than, well, you are.

Can you name the last "investigation" she did that anyone remembers? She came to town on the wings of the Firestone investigation (like a decade ago) at some crappy station in Houston and produced for PIX... well? anyone?

  2. They let her go because she's over 40 and didn't go all blonde and thin. Instead of saying she's not great Scott, why not admit she's no worse than anybody they have or will hire...and that will be a young blonde.

  3. KHOU in Houston is a crappy station??? I've seen the schlock you guys get fed out there. How does that compare to the station that just won best TV newsroom in the country from the RTNDA/Edward R. Murrow Awards? And also won best documentary? And also won the Dupont, the Peabody, the IRE, etc. etc. at least four times in the last ten years including this year? But more importantly, in that same time period that "crappy station" has freed at least 5 wrongfully convicted men, reformed the local school district from pushing kids out of school and then lying about it, caused a powerful and racist D.A. to resign, exposed military generals stealing from the state and federal governments as they also victimized women soldiers, etc., etc., etc.!!!! And...oh yeah: Caused a world-wide recall that saved lives and prompted major safety reforms in car design and in government monitoring. Yes, I'm biased, but at least it's based on facts. There are very few newsrooms that can come close to KHOU's record. So "NotScott", you have no idea what you're talking about or you're nuts. Think before you write, moron.

  4. Financial? You think? In the past 6 months in addition to their political reporter Plante, they have also "parted ways" with their Green Beat and Consumer reporters. To date, they haven't replaced any of them. As to Werner, she's won like 15 Emmys in the past 4 years including Reporter of the Year twice (what's that, my guess 10 more than any other reporter in SF) Oh yeah, and her removed bio said she was just named Journalist of the Year by the Consumer Federation of California.

  5. I'm glad she is gone and her tabloid style reporting is gone also. She was all sizzle and no steak. The free world is better off without her voice spreading the lies at which she was so good at using. Good bye....

  6. I tried to pass along a tip to an upcoming story to KCBS. I called the newsroom, was put on hold. The editor who came online (he rattled off his name so fast that I did not get it, and the first guy was probably just a phone answering person) could not figure out which entity was doing the story so he told me to write an email. He told me that it was perfectly secure, but knowing computers, I knew better than to argue with a now self-confessed total idiot. (And these guys likely *edit* the stories that we eventually see.) I wonder what Deep Throat would have done. I wonder how much KPIX "investigations" suffer from lack of real information and tips. Actually, I wonder no longer. They get all their investigative tips from press releases. Yes, investigative tips from press releases. Here, try it yourself:
