Spent Tuesday evening at the Oakland Coliseum Press box watching and schmoozing while the A's were being toyed with the Boston Red Sox, (or so we thought, down 4-0 early, only to come back and win in the 10th, with an assist from umpire Bob Davidson)
In the corner of my eye was a seperate TV monitor with Giants-Dodgers looking rather innocuous and the LA 'McCourts destined for a win as Tim Lincecum appeared to go off the radar, and the 'Gints poised to lose.
Wrong.
The Giants game went completely out of control as Bruce Bochy certainly made Dodgers Don Mattingly look as if he just proposed and the girl said no. The Giants would come back and win. That's not the story.
Both teams' compelling wins set off a flurry of activity on Twitter; all the way from Rob Neyer of ESPN.com, Tim Kawakami of the SJMerc, various LA sports media hounds and numerous Giants droids. It was fun watching the back-and-forth exchanges as both games, (Giants-Dodgers--A's-Sox) took on a life of their own in cyberspace.
Two almost surreal games 400 miles apart, involving Bay Area teams, and the talk of a Bristol-based ESPN baseball guy, with thousands of posts on Twitter and I didn't even mention Facebook.
**NOTES...Ran into Ken Korach and said again for the 400th time, "you're good."...Ray Ratto was making the rounds around the box. Haven't seen enough of him lately, (just kidding Ray)...My opening line to women: "Guess what, 'you're looking at an 'insider!"...KCBS' Joe Salvatore is one of the funniest sports guys in the biz and, oh, btw, is addicted to Twitter--ditto fellow audio guru, Ryan Leong...KNBR 1050's Damon Bruce on attending Athletics games: "I don't like going to the Coliseum because it depresses me." Gees, D, its a stadium; you want real depression, call Mel Gibson...
**As I posted a few weeks and got scolded by local misfits, indeed, ex-KRON blondiful Weather chick #1, Evelyn Taft, is in LA and about to begin guessing Mother Nature...from her own Twitter account: In LA...moving in...it's so hot!!! Not used to it ha ha. 10:43 AM Jul 19th ...her LA TV gig is a mystery, but she's close to airing, we'll let you know.

If you caught the on air visit by Ratto to the A's booth..Ray Fosse, who made it clear he didnt like the Giants,Giants fans in the bay bridge series, didnt seem to be Ratto's best buddy. Where as one of those Kuiper bros was the usual wagging tail at another media type greeter,Fosse was scarce with the smiles. And I salute Fosse. He knows the KNBR bias of the A's along with the Chronicle has hurt the A's in popularity over the years.
ReplyDeleteAm I reading more into it? Ask Ray Fosse what he thinks of San Francisco media types commenting on the A's.
One last-Ratto talked, and I dont think I heard Fosse say one "I agree"
