Dave Lewis, your KCBS/KPIX multi-tasker--does TV Sports and eyes 580 freeway shooting

KCBS' underated sports anchor, Dave Lewis, did one better Saturday--check that, make it two.

Lewis made his local TV debut, substituting on the KPIX/CBS5, (and CW too) sports segments Saturday. He delivered a steady, solid performance, not surprising, actually--Lewis is good and wasn't flustered by TV lights, but what we didn't know is that Lewis is an uncanny newsman also.

After his late broadcast Saturday, Lewis was heading home to the Eastbay and got right smack in the middle of the Hwy. 580 freeway shooting involving the CHP and a motorist dressed in body armor.

Shortly after midnight, Lewis offered an eyewitness account of the scene in Oakland, with steady ease and calm; it must have been a surreal moment because only moments earlier he was doing vo's over Giants and A's highlights.

It goes to show that some of the best talent in the city can also deliver the goods on the basic essentials called news. Lewis more than rode to the occasion, take note, KCBS brass.
