Copeland to host new show on KGO/ABC7; Exclusive
Brian Copeland, comedian, KGO Radio host and Bay Area personality will host a new, local ABC7/KGO-TV show, according to a reliable broadcast source.
415 Media first reported that a new program would grace the ABC7/KGO airwaves. In addition KGO is planning another 4 PM newscast next year to replace Oprah Winfrey.
Copeland's show, called "7 Live", will run from 3-4PM, and replaces the recently axed "View from the Bay." No word on when the new show debuts nor the specifics of the format, but there will be a live audience.
Asked to comment on his new gig, Copeland said, via e-mail, "that's an interesting rumor." Modest man, that "Copie."
Copeland promises to be a unique and marquee name for KGO-TV to launch this locally based-program. His energy and comic flair should provide a much-needed pump to local-TV, and I commend the station for
trying something new, particularly in tough economic times when shows like this are dwindling.
Copeland worked for KTVU's "Mornings on 2" as the man-on-the-street" host and his solo stage work, "Not a Genuine Black Man' was a huge hit and prompted attention from HBO.
One would assume that KGO is banking on Copeland's local popularity and buzz, not to mention his ability to generate top-name guests in a studio setting. We shall see.

Brian is an A+ talent and would be a great host for KGO-TV. I have been on his radio show many times. He is funny, bright, well-informed and just an all-around gem! Cheers!
ReplyDeleteAgree with Mark C.
ReplyDeleteShow will 'jump the shark' however when he puts his son on the air.
I can top Copelands San Leandro discrimination/redlining tale. My parents were told by realtors "You dont want to live there" back in the late 60"s..Even "friend" of the family white realtors who had sold them a home in Oakland, would not show them a S.L. home. Here's the topper, our white skinned aunt who had no problems in life being hired and promoted over the years with pac-bell,spoke perfect English(like us,also) but had a white sounding last name..got a home there..and later in even more racist Alameda. She never had kids, but another aunt who looked very similar did have children-some white, some brown-and yes one father.
ReplyDeleteThe final irony is that the Aunt who moved freely through the dominant culture "passing"?..was a Lesbian!
If those realtors had only known huh?
