Sports writers and stadiu issues; Gasia alert; Bay Area media notes

**The 49ers and their pursuit of a new stadium in Santa Clara got a huge boost with the voter approval of subsidizing from redevelopment funds. Now the hard work begins.

This stadium issue is a complex mother of all puzzles. It involves land deals, financing, the NFL bureaucracy, the Raiders, (perhaps) and a bevy of politics.

As such, sports writers, bloggers, talk-show hosts should take note. In some ways, this is NOT really a sports story. It's a business affair involving sports. The 49ers are a big entity in the Bay Area--I acknowledge that and know the landscape. A lot of the writers/bloggers/broadcasters here are writing this as if its a "sports story"and it isn't.

**KTVU's Gasia Michaelian has been noticecibly absent from the airwaves of late. I get a lot of e-mail asking where she's been. The answer is she's been on maternity leave.

**World Cup: Sorry, but I have no interest. Hockey took awhile, but I love it. Soccer, ney, futbol does nothing for me. Still this day, I have never seen a goal scored. I won't wait. Enjoy your World Cup and beer.

**The 9-Noon knibber sounded positively gibberish the other day.

Saying the prospect of the 49ers playing in a shared-stadium with the Raiders in Oakland was "nuts and crazy", the 'mail-in-inner' had to be reminded that both the NY Giants and Jets will share a stadium this year.

"Yeah, but...continued the glob, 'its only 9 miles from NY to NJ--there's no bridge?" Huh? Yeah, just a few tunnels and a cloud of dust in someone's head.

**Comcast SportsNet anchors have begun doing sports updates at night on KNBR.

**Word through media circles here points to another big-time purge, (read layoffs) at a major media outlet. The would-be purge rumor comes at a time when continued ad shrinkage has wreaked havoc inside the various sales departments. "Ain't no recession, 'dude, call it a mini-depression, " said a longtime sales guy.

Stay tuned.

  1. I guess the deal isn't completely dead like you insisted at the beginning of the year.

  2. Rich,
Still waiting for you to admit that a certain KNBR employee in Martin Lurie was at the A's game inside the press box a few days ago when you claimed on that specific date no one was there.

I just think it is right to admit you were wrong or made a small mistake

    ReplyDelete
  3. No mistake, nor wss I "wrong."

Marty Lurie is not a part of the M-F line-up and when he's on during the weekend, the emphasis is on the Giants, (no problems there, its the flagship station)

KNBR bills itself as the "sports leader." As such, they should have a reporter/staffer covering A's games--WFAN in NY, (Mets flagship) regularly covers the Yankees, and WABC, (Yankees) covers the Mets.

  4. And that-Comcast Giants,Chron alliance is why you never hear real reporting anymore. When you consider KNBR is part owner of the Giants writers might take note of homeristic hosts-and those that lie on air. But I have come to the conclusion that Cumulas,GM Lee Hammer, and Comcast have bought and paid for ALL local newsprint writers.
Only here,is there even a hint of KNBR unethical behavior. I give Rich that.
I once contacted Monte Poole and Kawakami-him twice, about their KNBR never criticize columns. They never answered. I guess they decided better to say nothing than B.S. me.

  5. You know what I think Rich? I think when Monte and Lowell and Tim and Ann and Camn hear something incredibly bad taste ,a lie, a once sided rip or more Fitz spyware at work...they get Sooo angry at KNBR ,they sit down and do a I hate Al Davis column!..relieves the pressure-lol.

  6. Richard, no two ways about it, you were wrong.

You claimed that no KNBR employee was at the game, you didn't specify that it had to be a "9-to-5er."

Just accept that you were wrong.

If you want to dog KNBR about the facts, you need own up when you make mistakes. Like when you claimed that the stadium deal wasn't going to happen, or that KGO would cancel the afternoon news.

You have a problem admitting you are wrong.

Or will you delete this comment too?

  7. No, Zennie I won't delete, because its YOU that's wrong, even under the "anonymous" posting.

I said that as a whole KNBR does not cover Eastbay sports, (Raiders--A's) on a consistent basis. To procliam itself as the "sports leader" is simply an oxymoron.

As for KGO, if you read the post, "Mr. anonymous/Zennie", you'd have seen that I said that the PM news would be shelved "sometime this year."

But, Zennie-62, keep 'em coming, just be up front and don't HIDE behind that computer while you take shots at me. Or anyone else for that matter.

    That's all.

  8. Thanks for the Gasia update. I hope she's next in line for the 10 pm slot (not that I think Julie H. is going anywhere).

  9. Rich I enjoy your writing and I tend to side with you but you technically said, and i quote "It dawned on my Monday night sitting in the Coliseum press box watching the A's-LA Angels, that no one from Knibber was to be seen" You never said anything about 9-5 or Monday-Friday and indeed Martin Lurie is an employee of KNBR, be it the weekend or not. And why would someone besides Marty have to go?

I understand what you were trying to say about Oakland sports not getting much coverage but at the same time is it up to KNBR to cover every sport? Sure "the sports leader" is their tagline but do you expect them to send someone to every single sporting event? 6 major sports teams plus minor/college teams, that is kind of a lot, no??? Does XTRA Sports send someone to the Giant games and other sporting events? (that is a question, I don't know) It is just because their shows tend to do a lot of local coverage, at least from 10am-3pm.

  10. Rich,

    Your words had no qualifications.

Admit that you were wrong and you have legitimacy; deny it and you have no credibility.

  11. Rich,

    "Oxymoron"?

I am reminded of the Princess Bride when Inigo Montoya said, "I do not think it means what you think it means."

  12. Hey Richard!!!

    WRONG!

Remember that post you deleted which said you wouldn't be able to identify the anonymous poster?

IT AIN'T ZENNIE62 who IS a legitimate blogger and admits when he makes a mistake!

You can't squirm out of this one you weasel! Maybe someone should let Kevin Barrett know about you and your past.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Must be a full moon: I'm not on XTRA's payroll, (but if you have any inside's, do let me know)

My past? Call my agent, 'bombastic Bushkin--he knows everything, including a lovely turkey on rye at Tommy's Joynt.

Zennie: please, stop. You're giving me a headache.

  14. Rich is applying the old Clinton strategy:

    deny, deny, deny.

    ReplyDelete
  15. WOW,Who knew so many people who read Rich..just love KNBR? I know that out here in the real world-I dont meet them. Maybe the people I know are a bit smart to listen other than for the games. And the inside cutting remarks? Oh,sure the average listener..knows all about that.
Why dont you KNBR Nazi's of bigot Lee Hammer admit you have bought off the media with your invites to interviews and Comcast appearances? that KNBR is the unholy deity of bay area sports?
KTRB at least isnt bashing people with blacklst threats. And that crowd at KNBR that claims to be patriotic-cant wait to silence critics..or as Radnich boasts "cut off at the knees" He's not joking -the guy is a bona fide cutthroat.
And if all of you think I exaggerate..then find any criticism of a KNBR host-by name- in the last three years,by ANY local writer...that's a dirty radio station to have that power to silence..

  16. As long as truth bombs are falling-How about backstabber Lurie posting here knowing it would be to contradict Rich? Lurie got more than a handskake from Lee Hammer for publicly showing up Rich. And as you all know Marty is a lawyer. So,that he chose to do it in public rather than send Rich a private note reminding him..just shows when you work for KNBR..you get your enemys. Nice work Marty-now I know what your really like.

  17. After reading all 16 of these posts I think I've come to the conclusion rich may be writing to himself as an anonymous poster.

    ReplyDelete
  18. 100% correct about Richard replying to himself.

Richard creates fake personalities to agree with the points he makes.

You can tell because they both use the same terms and make the same spelling mistakes. Also, they share the same weird opinions. In fact, there's a term for this kind of thing, astroturfing.

    ReplyDelete
  19. KNBR people-and I know it- are always scanning certain blogs..and the way they respond is too accuse the blogger of making up supporters while the commons sense-who the hell cares about KNBR's honor to complain and defend them? nobody, but themselves. Nobody ever writes on KNBR's behalf except Patrick Connor or the interns. Right war eagle?
    S..

    ReplyDelete
  20. Another grammar mistake that gives you away Richard, it's "common sense"

    ReplyDelete
  21. wow,KNBR is like Nixon..with the dirty tricks. And why IF it is Zennie of SF Gate why is he sucking up to KNBR? or it personal?
    s

    ReplyDelete
  22. Rich also likes the three dots (...) and has not figured out the proper use of an em dash (--).

Check out his blog and certain anon posts.

    ReplyDelete
  23. You would have to go back 12 years to Susan Slusser on air days to hear any dirt on KNBR that they drop. 12 years!!!
Now,all the writers are OWNED and bought off by KNBR..just think if it gets you angry KNBR hosts are liars..just think that those writers who are NOT employed by KNBR act like they are!
Line those pockets Monte and Tim and Lowell,Ann with free pub, small checks as you sell out to your Holy Deity-KNBR. And as Radnich said(slipped) about local writers..they take bribes. HE SAID that, not me. AND he said it in the present tense not "old days".

    ReplyDelete
  24. Lol,and I leave it to you to decide what and why writers suddenly stop bashing a team they had before, why tones change for no real reason.
And use your common sense-Rad,Tom,Ralph,Bobo,Roddy,NEVER say a thing wrong, biased,a lie, insulting, racist, that a single bay area sportswriter might think of rebuttal for a column? NEVER??? owned, man, owned.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Thank you both for one of the more entertaining exchanges I've seen on the Internet.
A lurker who is CLEARLY Zennie fighting with a lurker who is CLEARLY Rich (the "S" sign-off isn't fooling anyone -- does it stand for "sock puppet"?), in various states of inebriation which can be judged by the increasing grammar errors and levels of paranoia about KNBR. And both keep insisting on using the Anonymous tag, even though everyone here knows their identities.
Turkey on rye and a cold one to both of you, whatever the f that means.
p.s. You really should apologize to Marty, Rich. I've never met either of you, but you're in the wrong here and his comment wasn't out of line -- actually quite nice considering your mistake. You say things that are infinitely more harsh -- and I doubt you send private e-mails to your targets first.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Slow Clap for that last post. I also was puzzled why Rich went on the defensive instead of apologizing to Martin Lurie
