FP Santangelo scored an audio double on KNBR following the Giants-Dodgers game Monday night.
At first, Santangelo seemed to be more adept on his Comcast Sportsnet Bay Area duties, but his astute, straight-forward and critical analysis was both refreshing and candid, (for a change.)
Santangelo was at his best ripping hard, (justifiably), into Pablo Sandoval's major base-running guffaw late in the game, saying the panda's major brain fat was simply inexcusable. It helped that FP was a one-time ballplayer, saying the stinker was all on Sandoval, and not the fault of Roberto Kelley, the Giants first-base coach.
"Want to know what first-base coaches do? They 'look at chicks in the stands, have a stopwatch and guide the runners, "said Santangelo, adding a bit of charm and sarcasm to an otherwise non-spectacular contest at the old ballpark.
Santangelo has warmed on me. He can be a bit grating with the beer tap sound drops and a few too many cliches, but overall, his commentary and analysis are often quite spot-on and enjoyable.
